Ollivier, 25, a vlogger from France living in China, spoke about his initial (最初) impressions of China. Just like his family and friends, he saw China as a distant and mysterious place with a culture entirely different from France and other Western countries.
The idea of visiting China first came to him when his uncle returned with endless praise for the China. “Everything, from the food to the scenery, was incredibly appealing to me,” he recalled.
Later, a Chinese woman introduced him personally to the everyday life of Chinese people, which is a different way of living. The woman later became his wife, and they moved to Beijing together in 2022, which Ollivier described as “eye-opening” for him. “She took me to see the flag-raising ceremony and I was deeply moved. It’s a country of strength, unity, and love,” he said.
When Ollivier visited his wife’s hometown for the first time, he couldn’t speak much Chinese. While he was riding a bike, a group of relatives of his wife started shouting “waiguoren”, which means “foreigner”, and ran after him. He understood that this was their way of showing interest and hospitality (好客).
Apart from his personal experiences in China, Ollivier noticed that friendly interactions between the two countries are also increasing. “I’m overjoyed to host them during the 60th anniversary of China-France diplomatic relations, showcasing China’s modern development and rich history,” he said. “I may be just an ordinary person with limited influence, but everyone can be a cultural ambassador (大使).”

Growing evidence shows that dancing can improve brain health and help manage signs of mental and movement disorders, including Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and brain injury. To put it another way, dancing can improve lives in a physical, cognitive (认知的) and social way.
Helena Blumen, a cognitive scientist, says the mental multitasking that dance requires involves various parts of the brain at the same time, and requires more brain power than simpler repetitive exercises. In dance, we have to learn patterns; we have to think in an all-around way; we have to remember the movements.
While scientists are still learning how dancing work in the brain, a clearer picture is beginning to appear. In 2018, researchers in Germany carried out a research on older adults who had participated in one of two programs over a six-month period. One group practiced dance and the other did a traditional exercise program with cycling and strength training. While both groups improved their level of physical fitness, the dancers grew more white and gray matter in the parts of the brain responsible for cognitive processes, such as attention and high-level thinking. Both white and gray matter typically fall when we get older, making communication and certain cognitive tasks, such as multitasking and problem-solving, more difficult.
In addition to the physical benefits, dancing can also help people build body acceptance. Dawnia Baynes, 44, developed MS (多发性硬化症) in 2006. Now she suffers from severe muscle tightness and balance issues, which make standing and walking difficult. She recently joined an online dance program. Not only has it improved her balance and range of movement, it has also helped her overcome her fear of being judged for how she moves, in the class and out in the world.
Still, researchers say they’re only having a limited understanding of how dancing can be used in medical treatment. Larger studies are needed to confirm the findings of the smaller experiments that have been done so far.
8. According to Paragraph 2, which word can be used to describe dancing?
A. Demanding. B. Necessary. C. Delightful. D. Common.
9. What does the research in Germany suggest about the effects of dancing on the brain?
A. Dancing reverses brain damage. B. Dancing increases cognitive abilities.
C. Dancing slows down the aging process. D. Dancing improves balance and posture.
10. What is the additional benefit of dancing mentioned in the passage?
A. Helping with body acceptance. B. Relieving stress and anxiety.
C. Enhancing creativity. D. Improving physical health.
11. Which section of a newspaper is the passage most likely taken from?
A. Travel and Tourism. B. Opinion and Commentary.
C. International Affairs. D. Health and Entertainment.

My mom is the greatest mom ever! As I grew up, I saw her as my hero for all the things she would do for me. I remember when she would fix my baby dolls or when she helped me color pretty pictures when I started elementary school. I remember in middle school, I would see her do things that fathers were supposed to do, like fixing the car without caring how greasy (油污的) her hands would get. Now that I’m in high school, I see how she is strong but sensitive at the same time. She looks at life with a positive attitude no matter what the situation is.
One day I came home from school and saw papers on the kitchen table and my mom sitting with a worried face looking at my dad. My dad wasn’t working at the time because he had broken his arm. I had heard my parents talk about money issues a couple of times before but I never asked about the situation. “What’s going on?” I asked. “We have to be out of the house in two weeks,” my mom said. She had her elbows on the table and one hand over her forehead. Then I realized this was a serious problem. That very day, she made phone calls and started to look for a place to rent.
We had no money and no idea what we were going to do. I read the papers on the table; it said we had lost the house because we hadn’t been paying rent. I was surprised that all this was going on and my dad seemed to be doing nothing about it and my mom never said anything about it.
It seemed like everything was falling apart, but my mom seemed as if this was making her stronger.

The idea of visiting China first came to him when his uncle returned with endless praise for the China. “Everything, from the food to the scenery, was incredibly appealing to me,” he recalled.

根据前文“How do you feel about striking up a conversation?(你觉得开始一段对话怎么样?)”以及后文“However, many others find it to be awkward. (然而,还有很多人觉得这很尴尬。)”可知,前文询问开始一段对话怎么样,后文和前文构成转折关系,讲述有很多人觉得这很尴尬,所以空处应是和后文相反之意,A项“For some, the skill of talking to new people is natural. (对一些人来说,与陌生人交谈的技能是天生的。)”符合文意,承接上文,和下文构成转折关系。故选A项。
根据前文“One of the first steps is to make connections. This involves finding common ground with someone, which can serve as a foundation for a conversation. (第一步是建立联系。这包括找到与某人的共同点,这可以作为谈话的基础。)”以及后文“If you’re joining a new club, try beginning by talking about how much you love the sport or activity you’re about to take part in. (如果你加入了一个新的俱乐部,试着从谈论你有多喜欢你即将参加的运动或活动开始。)”可知,本段主要讲述,如何和人开始一段谈话,并给出具体建议,所以D项“Note the setting you’re in and use it to introduce a topic you can both relate to. (注意你所处的环境,用它来介绍一个你们都感兴趣的话题。)”符合本段主题。故选D项。

(害怕被别人负面评价会限制我们的社交能力。)”是对前文的进一步说明,解释这样的坏处。故选E项。
【19题详解】
设空位于句首,为本段中心句,根据后文“Certain controversial (有争议的) topics (such as politics) are often best avoided because they can make people feel uncomfortable. But it’s fine to mention other current affairs or recent news. Try bringing up something interesting you read in the news or a significant event that happened at school. (某些有争议的话题(如政治)通常最好避免,因为它们会让人感到不舒服。但是提到其他时事或最近的新闻也是可以的。试着提起你在新闻中读到的有趣的事情,或者学校里发生的重大事件。)”可知,本段主要讲述可用最近的热点作为对话的开始,所以G项“Mentioning a recent event that you found interesting can be a great conversation starter. (提起最近发生的一件你觉得有趣的事是一个很好的开场白。)”符合本段主题,为本段中心句。故选G项。
【20题详解】
根据前文“Finally, remember that you’re in control of your social interactions. If you find you’re not enjoying your dialogue or it’s becoming tiring, you have the freedom to leave a conversation. (最后,记住,你控制着你的社交互动。如果你发现你不喜欢你的对话,或者它变得很累,你可以自由地退出对话。)”以及后文“People are unlikely to judge you if you politely excuse yourself and head elsewhere. (如果你礼貌地为自己找个借口,然后去别的地方,人们不太可能对你评头评足。)”可知,本段讲述你可以自由离开并且你的离开并不会让人对你评头评足,所以C项“You shouldn’t have to stay in a situation that makes you feel uncomfortable.

故填to explore。
故填Although/Though/While。
故填it。
本空应填介词to,a visit to表示“去……参观”,为固定搭配。故填to。

Dear Tom,
How is everything going? It’s my great privilege to record a short video about my campus life for your Culture Week. I’m writing to tell you what will be included in the video.
First of all, as a student, taking different classes is my daily routine, so I would like to record a scene focusing on one of my Chinese classes to show my academic life and Chinese culture. In addition, a wide variety of extra-curricular activities are held every day in my school and therefore showing my after-school activities is also in my plan, from which your schoolmates can learn the diversity of Chinese high school life.
I wish such a video could live up to your expectations. If there is anything that needs improving, please don’t hesitate to tell me. Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua

It seemed like everything was falling apart but my mom seemed as if this was making her stronger.

I assumed there was good news and asked her, “So what’s new?”
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
It seemed like everything was falling apart, but my mom seemed as if this was making her stronger. That whole week she tried her best to find a place for rent, never showing a hint of the toll it took on her. Even though she didn’t show it, I felt my mom’s pain and how much it hurt her to not be able to provide a good shelter for us. After witnessing her struggle throughout the week, I returned home to find her standing in the kitchen, a rare smile gracing her face as she busily cooked. It was odd, because she doesn’t like to cook.
I assumed there was good news and asked her, “So what’s new?” “We are starting to move today,” she said with a smile on her face. “There’s a place near your school and thank God they allowed all of us even though the place is pretty small.” I could tell she was relieved and happy. At that moment, I admired her so much. My mom is the greatest mom ever. Faced with trouble, some people might give up. My mom looks at bad moments in life as a test, or a chance to make her stronger. I’m proud for having such a wonderful mother like her.
