Many people do not know how to deal with feelings of anger, worry, fear or sadness.
People sometimes focus on (聚焦于) them and let them take over their brains. They sometimes try to fight these thoughts, but again it is useless. The thoughts end up coming back stronger. It’s like trying to put out a fire by covering it with paper. The fire will just get bigger.
I want to teach you a way to stop these negative (负面的) thoughts. Think about this the next time your thoughts are troubling you.
“I know that I am feeling negative because of certain things or people, but I also know that having these thoughts is not going to help me in any way. I choose to let these thoughts go and instead think about something positive and meaningful (有意义的). I choose to love myself and I should be happy.” If you say this to yourself, you just might feel better. For example, if you feel angry or sad when you hear someone say bad things about you, remind yourself that there are other people around you who also like you very much. That way, you don’t get into a habit of bad thoughts (想法).
43. Which is not negative?
A. Fear. B. Sadness. C. Anger. D. Happiness.
44. With the sentence “The fire will just get bigger”, the writer means ________.

Nowadays many people look for fun online. Watching livestreaming (直播) shows has become part of their lives. At the same time, traditional culture has found a bigger stage (舞台) online. Many traditional artists are starting to livestream like Douyin and Bilibili. Some of them sing Peking Opera, some make paper cutting, while others perform Chinese classical music. A growing number of young people are starting to become more interested in traditional culture because of livestreaming.
Li Jun is a Peking Opera performer from the Shanghai Jingju Theater Company. The 59-year-old took up his smart phone and started livestreaming. People can ask him questions and get answers directly.
“Livestreaming has brought this traditional art down to earth.” One viewer said, “it gives young people an easier way to learn more about the traditional art.” Li has more than 6,000 fans on Douyin, while one of his videos got 42,000 views on Bilibili.
On March 26th, 2020, Bilibili livestreamed a huafu show on the third China Huafu Day Performers showed clothes in traditional Chinese styles, including those from Wei, Tang and Ming dynasties. Qomolangma is the third mountain of the Himalayas, so people call it the Third God Mountain in Tibetan language.
Qomolangma is very famous and it is higher than any other mountain in the world. Its newest height is 8,848.86 meters. At the height of 8,000 meters, there is only 30% O₂ and the human body can only stand this height for a few days, so it is dangerous for humans to climb higher. But many climbers want to challenge themselves. As Alan Arnette, a mountain climber from America, said “Climbing mountains drives you to look deep inside yourself, and lets you find out whether you are strong enough in mind when you want to stop.”
It’s a good thing that Qomolangma gives people a chance (机会) to become strong-willed (意志坚强的) when they are trying to achieve their dreams. However, Qomolangma is in danger these years because many people leave their waste behind, such as water bottles and plastic (塑料的) bags. They cause the environmental pollution for Qomolangma. Many animals would die after eating the plastic bags. Luckily, many volunteers from all over the world came to Qomolangma to join in the clean-up activity. A volunteer advised, “Mountain climbing lovers should always take good care of themselves, and at the same time, take good care of Qomolangma.”

This spring, the most eye-catching movie might be YOLO(《热辣滚烫》). By Apr. 10, it had made over 3.46 billion yuan at the box office.
Directed (执导) by Jia Ling, the movie tells the story of a woman tired of the world, finding herself and learning to love life through boxing (拳击). The name YOLO is short for the movie’s main idea —you only live once.
Jia didn’t study directing at university. And she believes this is both a good and bad thing. It makes her feel freer in film making because she doesn’t need to follow a fixed style (风格).
Before making YOLO, Jia was often seen as an overweight comedian (喜剧演员). She often made jokes about herself to make people laugh. For this movie, Jia lost 50 kg and looked very different. Some people online said even her voice became softer, and they call this a “rebirth” for Jia.
In Jia’s eyes, her change in look is her way of staying true to herself. “It’s hard to predict (预言) one’s life. I’m just following my heart but not looking for changes on purpose (故意地). Movies are now the best way to show myself, so I put all my energy (精力) into them,” Jia told Xinhua.
“Jia didn’t change at all. She’s just being more herself,” said talk show host Chen Luyu in her program A Date With Luyu(《鲁豫有约》).

【答案】例文:
Growing Up With Books
It is generally considered that reading does a lot of benefits to us. Not only can it make our after-school life more meaningful and colorful, but it can also open up our eyes and minds. As a result, by reading more, we would grow into a better person.
However, some students spend much time on short videos or computer games. It takes much of their free time. It is a pity to find that there are fewer and fewer students who are interested in reading or have formed a habit of reading. Therefore, I would like to suggest that everyone should read more books, especially read classics so that we can spread our Chinese traditional culture to the world.
Let’s start reading now, and let it become part of our life!

Dear Donna,
Help! I’m a 15-year-old high school student in New York. In eight months, I’m going to take an exam. To prepare, I’m studying six hours a day. I want to do well, but I’m really upset. I can’t sleep. What can I do?
Yours,
Mary
Dear Mary,
Many students have the same problem as you. Here is some advice to help you deal with the stress.
1.Make a study plan, but don’t study too much in one day. You remember more by studying one hour each day for six days, than six hours in one day. Also, don’t study late at night.
2.Have a rest for 15 to 20 minutes every two hours. Go outdoors and walk. Doing exercise is a good way to reduce stress.
3.Don’t eat a lot of sugar or drink a lot of coffee. Eat food high in Vitamin (维生素) B(such as eggs, milk, vegetables and rice). These give you energy and help you think clearly.
4.A study partner (伙伴) can help you practice for the test. You can talk to your partner. This can reduce stress, too.
I hope these suggestions can be helpful.
Yours,
Donna
39. What’s Mary’s problem?
A. She can’t agree with her mother. B. She works too long.
C. She is worried and can’t sleep. D. She can’t study English.
40. The underlined word “reduce” in the article means ________.
A. 减轻 B. 导致 C. 加强 D. 改变
41. Donna thinks that ________ can help Mary think clearly.
A. doing exercise B. drinking a lot of coffee
C. eating food high in Vitamin B D. studying six hours every day
42. Which statement is true according to the passage?
A. Listening to music can help you relax.
B. Asking the teachers for help can be useful.
C. The best time to study is from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.
D. It’s good to tell a study partner about your feeling.
C
Before making YOLO Jia was often seen as an overweight comedian (喜剧演员).
