Kevin, a 12-year-old boy has been a volunteer for several years. He always does something good for his community in his free time. Now a reporter is asking some questions about his experiences as a volunteer.
Kevin, when did you work as a volunteer?
Five years ago, my father took me to the park and we picked up litter there. From then on, I have become interested in being a volunteer. At first, I could just do something simple. Later, I could do something meaningful on my own.
What have you done as a volunteer?
Well, when I was a little kid, I just did some small things. For example, I helped to take out the rubbish for the old or I bought necessary things for people in need. As time passed by, I could do more things for others. Once, I visited the old in the old people’s home. I helped them clean their rooms and told them stories. That was really a wonderful experience.
Why do you want to be a volunteer?
My father is a math teacher. My mother is a shop assistant. But they both try their best to help others. What they do influences me a lot. So I want to be a person like them. After I become a volunteer, I find happiness by helping others. I really feel satisfied when I see smiles on others’ faces.
Finally, what do you want to say to other teenagers?
My father often told me “The rose in her hand, the flavor (香味) in mine”, I quite agree with him. Being a person sending others roses is really great.

How do you greet (问候) your friends? People from different cultures have different answers. But have you ever wondered how animals “say hello” to each other? Here are some examples.
Chimpanzees (黑猩猩)
Everyone knows how similar chimpanzees are to humans. So it’s no surprise that their greetings are also close to ours. The most common ways of greeting between chimpanzees are hand touching and hugging. Sometimes they also kiss each other.
Giraffes
Giraffes seldom make loud sounds. Their necks can reach two meters in length, making them useful in greeting each other. When two giraffes meet, they may “shake” their necks and rub (摩擦) them against each other. This is to feel how strong and tall the other is.
Dolphins
Dolphins greet one another with whistles (哨声). Every dolphin has a different whistle. When two groups of dolphins meet, they each choose a member to “talk” to the other group. The two groups can then travel together. Unlike most of the other animals, dolphins are smart enough to learn a new language by inventing and copying new sounds.
63. How do chimpanzees often greet each other?
A. By touching hands and hugging. B. By making loud sounds.
C. By whistling to each other. D. By nodding and bowing.
64. Why do giraffes “shake” their necks and rub them against each other?

A. A travel guidebook. B. A news report.
C. A nature magazine. D. A notice.

Why do many students not like maths or think it’s hard to do well in maths?
Is it because maths is too difficult? No, something is to do with students’ thought in maths classes. They almost never think they are in the classroom to find the beauty of maths. They think they are there to answer questions. Maths is more about answering questions than about learning for them.
In perfect maths-learning classes, students work on difficult problems. They try an idea, fail (失败) and then try another one. They know that failure is a natural part of learning. They believe they can do better than they think in maths. In fact, these students usually do better in maths.
But today most students work on closed maths questions. For example, teachers usually take answers from the first student who puts up his hand. So students who think slowly often lose heart in maths.
Schools should encourage (鼓励) teachers to open up maths. Teachers should ask questions that have many solutions (解决方法). They should give students time to find out different solutions. In this way maths becomes a learning subject.
When teachers set students free, the beauty of maths follows. More children will be ready to learn this subject.
66. How does the writer start the passage?
A. By telling a story. B. By using a saying.
C. By giving an example. D. By asking a question.
67. What are students who do better in maths like?
A. They always think quickly.
B. They are not afraid of failure.
C. They never fail when working on a problem.
D. They are only interested in difficult problems.
68. The writer thinks maths teachers should ________.
A ask questions that only have one solution
B. help their students solve difficult questions
C. encourage students to put up their hands in class
D. encourage students to find out different solutions
69. By writing this passage, the writer mainly wants to ________.
A. talk about the beauty of maths B. introduce a new learning subject
C. help students to love maths D. share her new ways of teaching maths

We often think the Arctic (北极) only has snow and ice. But in fact, it has far more than that! The Arctic is on top of the earth. Two thirds of the Arctic is the Arctic Ocean, while one third is made up of land, including Russia, Canada, the U. S and other five countries.
The Arctic lands have many kinds of lives. Some plants and animals can grow in very cold temperatures. In fact the Arctic is home to more than 21,000 kinds of lives. There are whales, Arctic foxes and many more. The polar bear is the most famous Arctic animal.
You might think that the Arctic is too cold for people to live in. But surprisingly, there are about 4 million people living there. That’s the same population as the city of Zhangjiakou in Hebei, China. About 10% are local (当地的) people. They have been there for thousands of years. They make a living by fishing, hunting and so on.
A group of scientists recently came back from a one-year-long study in the Arctic. They have bad news: the Arctic is dying. The amount of Arctic sea ice is falling by around 3% every year. There will be no more ice in summer in the near future. What does this mean for us? Many animals, such as polar bears, hunt for their food on the ice. If they can’t do this anymore, they will die of hunger. Local people hunt animals for food. But since so many animals are dying, they need to change their way of life.
70. How many countries are included in the Arctic?
A. Three. B. Two. C. Eight. D. Five.
71. According to the passage, what animals can you see in Arctic lands?
A. Penguins. B. Whales. C. Wolves. D. Monkeys.
72. What will happen to polar bears if there is no more ice in summer?
A. They will die of hunger.
B. They will hunt animals for food.
C. They will live in warmer temperatures.
D. They need to change their way of life.

Hello, boys and girls! Most of us may don’t know how to get on well with our parents. As teenagers, it’s important to get on well with parents. What should we do? Firstly, we should spend some time communicating with our parents. For example, we may talk about our teachers, classmates or the things that happen in school. Secondly, parents do a lot for us, we should understand them. We should do something with our parents each week, such as making dinner or going shopping. We’ll improve our relation with them in this way. Thirdly, we’d better discuss our problems with them. They will help us find better ways to solve them. It’s not easy to get on with parents. So we should learn to be understanding first.
Thank you for listening.
