Teaching Objectives
1. Knowledge Objectives

Teaching Procedures
Step 1 Pre-reading (20 mins)
1. Lead-in
(1) After greeting, the teacher will ask students to observe the classroom and then ask some questions.

(2) Work in pairs and ask questions about the different places listed in 2a.
A: Is there a clothes store near your home?

2. Presentation
The teacher will show some pictures to present the new words and the students will guess the meaning according to these pictures.
3. Prediction
The teacher will ask the students to look at the pictures in 2b and ask them to predict what these passages are about.
Step 2 While-reading (10 mins)
1. Skimming
(1) The students will read the passages quickly and try to get the main idea of the passages.
(2) The students will match each passage with a map in 2b.
(3) Check the answers.
2. Scanning
(1) Let the students read the three passages and related pictures carefully. Then discuss in groups and design three or four questions according to the living environment of Anna, John, and Lisa. The groups will compete to see which group has the most and best questions. The teacher will first make a demonstration according to Anna’s description. For example:
a. Is there a zoo in Anna’s neighborhood?
b. Where does Anna like to go on weekends?
c. How does Anna go to the zoo?
(2) The teacher will write the questions designed by each group on the blackboard, and then have a competition to see which group answers the questions quickly and well.
(3) Read the passages again and answer the questions in2c.
Step 3 Post-reading (10 mins)
1. Individual work
(1) Read the passages again and find out the sentences that describe the route from the reading passages.
(2) Mark the routes in the pictures in 2b according to the description in the passages.
2. Group work
The students will be divided into three groups and tell a story about the person’s community in the third person.
Step 4 Summary and homework (8 mins)
1. Summary
The teacher will ask students describe the neighborhood in their own words according to the pictures in 2b.
2. Homework
Describe the neighborhood around your home.
