What:
文章介绍了五种动物——大象、大熊猫、斑马、老虎和猴子,介绍内容主要包括这些动物分布在哪些大洲,它们的饮食习惯以及生活习性等。
Why:
学生通过阅读文章,能够基本掌握这五种动物的生活栖息地、饮食习惯和生活习性,树立热爱动物和保护动物的意识。
How:
这篇课文的语境是动物园里挂的动物解说的说明文字,每段文字都较为简短,而且所有的段落不构成一篇完整的文章,没有总体介绍,没有总结结尾,只有不同的小段落;因为是对动物进行的一般性描述,所以篇章采用一般现在时态。
Teaching goals:
By the end of this lesson,
1. Students will be able to express the main continents on the map in English and talk about where the animals live using there be structure and whatever they know about the animals.
2. Students will be able to idenfy key information about the animals, understand the passage well and realize the importance of protecting animals.
3. Students will be able to use capital letters correctly.

目标1:
Students will be able to express the main continents on the map in English and talk about where the animals live using there be structure and whatever they know about the animals.
1. Students look at the map in Activity 1 and find the places on the map. Then the teacher leads students to read the names of the continents.
2. Students work in pairs and write sentences about where the animals live in Activity 2. They are also encouraged to talk about whatever they know about the animals.
观察学生是否能够写出正确的句子来表达这些动物居住在哪些大洲,并且在朗读时能够发音正确。
Purpose:
激活学生的背景知识,并且弥补部分学生在背景知识上的匮乏,为阅读扫清部分障碍。

目标2:
Students will be able to idenfy key information about the animals, understand the passage well and realize the importance of protecting animals.
3. Stuedents read the passage and complete the table in Activity 3.
4. The teacher explains key language points in detail. Besides key words and phrases, the use of “the third person singular” must be emphasized.
5. Students watch the vidoe and then read the passage chorally.
6. Students complete the sentences in Activity 4.
观察学生是否能够迅速准确地完成表格内容,是否能够理解文章的主旨大意以及细节信息,是否能够注意到动词第三人称单数的正确使用。
Purpose:
训练学生在阅读中快速提取信息的能力;培养学生在阅读中获取具体信息的能力;讲解重点语言知识点——动词的第三人称单数形式。

Students will be able to use capital letters correctly.
7. Students read the introduction about a zoo and correct the mistakes in it. They should be reminded the use of capital letters.
