Now try forest therapy (理疗). There are nearly two dozen certified forest therapy trails around the world that guide visitors to engage with nature in ways that benefit their health. “Nature is important for our health in so many ways,” says Melissa Lem, a Vancouver doctor and director of PaRx, a Canadian program encouraging doctors to prescribe (开处方) time in nature for their patients. “We have a standardized recommendation that you spend at least two hours in nature each week and at least 20 minutes each time.” No wonder many cities and parks are installing forest therapy trails — short, self-guided paths meant to immerse users in nature and engage all their senses. Designed by organizations such as the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy (ANFT), more than a dozen trails have been launched in the United States, Slovenia, and Canada. Inspired by shinrin-yoku, the Japanese tradition of forest bathing, forest therapy trails are typically a mile or so long with little change in height, access to water, and a diversity of plants. Most are on unpaved dirt paths, making it clear that you’re not in an urban environment. “The main thing is that the trail should provide a relaxing experience in a quiet environment,” says Amos Clifford, CEO of ANFT. Certified trails have prompts. By following them, visitors from time to time breathe deeply, listen to water, touch a tree, or close their eyes. “Typically in these spaces, people walk quickly as exercise or to identify things like birds, and their other senses often shut down,” says Amos Clifford. “By closing your eyes, you enable the other senses to kick in.” Lem says she was initially doubtful about the difference between a forest therapy session and simply spending time outdoors. “I thought, I spend lots of time hiking, running. How much better can it be? But I was surprised at how relaxed and connected I felt,” she says. 8. What do forest therapy trails help visitors do? A. Exercise and stay physically active. B. Enjoy the beauty of plants and animals. C. Connect with nature and benefit from it. D. Learn about the medicinal value of plants. 9. What does Paragraph 4 mainly tell about forest therapy trails? A. Functions. B. Features. C. Location. D. History. 10. What does the underlined word probably mean? A. Standards. B. Barriers. C. Highlights. D. Instructions. 11. What can we infer from the last Paragraph? A. Forest therapy works unexpectedly well. B. Therapeutic trails should be built worldwide. C. Forest therapy equals spending time outdoors. D. Hiking and running contributes to health better. C 9. B 10. D 11. 根据文章第一段“There are nearly two dozen certified forest therapy trails around the world that guide visitors to engage with nature in ways that benefit their health. (世界各地有近24条经过认证的森林疗法小径,引导游客以有益于健康的方式与大自然接触。)”可知,森林疗法能够使游客能够与大自然接触,且有益于身体健康。故选C。 【9题详解】 主旨大意题。根据文章第四段“Inspired by shinrin-yoku, the Japanese tradition of forest bathing, forest therapy trails are typically a mile or so long with little change in height, access to water, and a diversity of plants. (受日本森林浴传统shinrin-yoku的启发,森林疗法步道通常长达一英里左右,高度变化不大,接近水源,植物种类繁多。)”以及“ ‘The main thing is that the trail should provide a relaxing experience in a quiet environment,’ says Amos Clifford, CEO of ANFT. (ANFT的首席执行官阿莫斯·克利福德说:“最重要的是,这条小径应该在安静的环境中提供一种放松的体验。”)”说明森林小径疗法步道的长度以及所处的环境,所以说明的是它的特征。故选B。 【10题详解】 词句猜测题。根据文章倒数第二段“Certified trails have prompts. By following them, visitors from time to time breathe deeply, listen to water, touch a tree, or close their eyes. (经过认证的路径有prompts。跟着它们走,游客们不时地深呼吸,倾听水声,触摸一棵树,或者闭上眼睛。)”说明的是跟着它们走,能做些什么,所以划线词指的是“提示”。故选D。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“Lem says she was initially doubtful about the difference between a forest therapy session and simply spending time outdoors. ‘I thought, I spend lots of time hiking, running. How much better can it be? But I was surprised at how relaxed and connected I felt,’ she says. (莱姆说,她最初对森林疗法和单纯的户外活动之间的区别持怀疑态度。“我想,我花了很多时间徒步旅行,跑步。还能再好多少呢?但令我惊讶的是,我感到如此放松和投入,”她说。)”她说,虽然不知道有户外活动之间的区别,但是能感受到森林疗法让人放松和投入,所以说明的是森林疗法有着意想不到的好处。故选A。 D Architects are creating new kinds of buildings to deal with global warming. We sleep in bed at home. We go to school to study, and many of us go to an office for work. Needless to say, buildings are an important part of our lives. Yet, buildings are also a major part when it comes to global warming. According to the World Economic Forum, buildings and their construction make up 40 percent of global energy use and 33 percent of greenhouse gas emissions. There are ways of reducing the carbon footprint when it comes to building constructions. For example, using recycled and non-traditional, low-carbon building materials can take out some of the contributors to global warming. However, to fully fight global warming, whole new approaches to architecture must be adopted. Building engineers and architects normally take a range of temperatures into consideration, such as bridge being able to “stretch” during hotter days. However, they cannot account for a world that is always hotter and wetter, which will destroy existing designs. At the same time, global warming brings unique challenges to buildings, according to the news website The Conversation. Higher average temperatures mean wood-eating termites (白蚁) and malaria-carrying mosquitoes can appear in more areas, leading to unstable buildings and unsafe living environments. Reinforced concrete (钢筋混凝土) is more likely to rust (生锈) in wetter environments. This also leads to more buildings at risk of falling down. Thankfully, there are ways of addressing the challenges brought by global warming. For instance, Trombe Walls — structures made of concrete, stone or other heavy materials — can be used to absorb solar heat during the day and release the heat at night when it’s colder. As global temperatures increase and storms become stronger and more frequent, roofs can be built with a direct connection to the building’s base to better resist strong winds, according to the United Nations Environment Programme. Another solution is to make roofs with multiple slopes or a central shaft (井) that reduces wind force and pressure by taking in air from the outside. By changing our approaches to architecture, we can live in new kinds of buildings and can be more prepared for a warmer world. 12. What can we learn from Paragraph 1? A. Buildings can not stand climate change. B. Buildings make no difference to energy use. C. Buildings matter but cause environmental problems. D. Buildings contribute to half of greenhouse gas emissions. 13. What challenge to buildings is brought by global warming? A. The risk of being burnt to the ground. B. The instability of building structures. C. The destruction in wetter and colder days. D. The appearance of malaria-carrying termites. 14. What is an approach to dealing with the challenges to buildings? A. Roofs with a single slope. B. Structures with lower height. C. Roofs directly joined to the soil. D. Structures made of heavy materials. 15. What is the author’s purpose in writing this text? A. To introduce new kinds of buildings. B. To prove the major role of buildings. C. To present various causes of global warming. D. To explain the challenges from global warming. C 13. B 14. D 15. 根据第一段“Needless to say, buildings are an important part of our lives. Yet, buildings are also a major part when it comes to global warming. (不用说,建筑是我们生活的重要组成部分。然而,在全球变暖问题上,建筑也是一个重要组成部分。)”可知,建筑物很重要,但会造成环境问题。故选C。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“Higher average temperatures mean wood-eating termites (白蚁) and malaria-carrying mosquitoes can appear in more areas, leading to unstable buildings and unsafe living environments. Reinforced concrete (钢筋混凝土) is more likely to rust (生锈) in wetter environments. This also leads to more buildings at risk of falling down.(更高的平均温度意味着食木白蚁和携带疟疾的蚊子可能出现在更多地区,导致建筑物不稳定和生活环境不安全。钢筋混凝土在潮湿的环境中更容易生锈。这也导致更多的建筑物有倒塌的危险。)”可知,全球变暖给建筑带来的挑战是建筑物结构的不稳定。故选B。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“For instance, Trombe Walls — structures made of concrete, stone or other heavy materials — can be used to absorb solar heat during the day and release the heat at night when it’s colder. (例如,Trombe墙——由混凝土、石头或其他重型材料制成的结构——可以在白天吸收太阳能,在晚上较冷时释放热量。)”可知,通过使用重型材料制成的结构可以应对全球变暖带来的挑战。故选D。 15题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“By changing our approaches to architecture, we can live in new kinds of buildings and can be more prepared for a warmer world. (通过改变我们的建筑方式,我们可以生活在新型建筑中,并为更温暖的世界做好准备。)”可知,这篇文章主要介绍可以应对全球变暖的新型建筑。故选A。 Do you sound old? If your voice changes as you get older, you’re not alone. Voice changes are common in older adults. ____16____ As we age, losing muscle and changes in posture and cellular structure can make it harder to talk like we used to. ____17____ Speaking volume can also decline, especially for those with swallowing problems or diseases like Parkinson’s. The vocal cords (声带) can lose tone and flexibility, changing how we sound. ____18____ Many aging issues can affect the voice too. It’s no surprise that up to one third older adults experience voice disorder, or changes in normal voice quality. These changes usually happen slowly with aging voice, starting as early as their fifties. Not everyone experiences voice changes with age, but those who do not ice it. So do their friends and family. Recent research shows that people link older voices with wisdom and good storytelling skills. ____19____ Some think older voices mean a person is less flexible or sharp, strengthening stereotypes about older people’s abilities. Women are especially affected by these stereotypes. Experts say vocal changes in women are due to hormonal (荷尔蒙的) changes. So it’s not surprising that menopause (更年期) is also blamed for some vocal changes. ____20____ A. Singers might report deeper or shaky voices. B. Here’s why our voices change as we get older. C. Here’s how to deal with the problem of voice aging. D. But the vocal cords aren’t always the main reason for an “old” voice. E. On the other hand, they also often have negative views about older voices. F. That’s why hormonal changes have a significant impact on vocal changes in women’s menopause. G. Thus, some patients use hormone replacement therapy to delay or prevent voice changes in menopause. B 17. A 18. D 19. E 20. 【16题详解】 根据上文“Do you sound old? If your voice changes as you get older, you’re not alone. Voice changes are common in older adults. (你听起来老吗?如果你的声音随着年龄的增长而改变,你并不孤单。声音变化在老年人中很常见。)”以及下文“As we age, losing muscle and changes in posture and cellular structure can make it harder to talk like we used to. (随着年龄的增长,肌肉的萎缩、姿势和细胞结构的改变会让我们更难像以前那样说话。)”可知,空格处应该总地说明的是声音变化的原因。选项B. Here’s why our voices change as we get older. 【17题详解】 根据上文“As we age, losing muscle and changes in posture and cellular structure can make it harder to talk like we used to. (随着年龄的增长,肌肉的萎缩、姿势和细胞结构的改变会让我们更难像以前那样说话。)”可知,空格处进一步举例说明我们声音的改变。选项A. Singers might report deeper or shaky voices. Zoe, a 10-year-old girl and her good friend, Doris, were having fun in the park near their houses, running and laughing. All of a sudden, they noticed something moving in the bushes. Curious, they stopped to take a closer look. To their surprise, they found that a frightened and wounded squirrel (松鼠) lay in the bushes. Its tiny body was trembling (发抖), letting out soft cries. Its eyes were filled with fear and pain, and one of its legs was injured, bleeding and swollen. The girls were immediately filled with sympathy. They bent down, speaking softly to calm it down. “Don’t worry, little squirrel. We’ll help you.” Zoe, with her kind heart, gently reached out her hand. Seeming to understand their kindness, the squirrel hesitated for a moment but then allowed Lily to touch it. Doris a brave girl, gently touched the squirrel’s leg, and the squirrel cried in pain. “We have to do something. Let’s take it to the vet (兽医),” Doris suggested, and Zoe agreed. Then Doris rushed back home and about ten minutes later returned with a cardboard box in hand. They gently placed the squirrel inside the box. Carefully carrying the box with the squirrel in it, they set off for the vet’s clinic. The journey was not easy because they had to be extremely cautious not to hurt the squirrel and cause more pain. Every step was a struggle, but they persevered. Exhausted but relieved, they reached the clinic safely. Dr. Smith, the local vet who was known for his kindness and expertise brought out his medical bag and got to work immediately. The vet examined the squirrel thoroughly and praised the children because they had done the right thing by bringing it in. However, his expression turned serious. “The squirrel’s leg is broken and the wound is still bleeding,” he said. “But don’t worry. Changing the bandage on time, with proper care, it should recover.” The children sighed in relief. “And remember, the little buddy belongs to nature,” Dr. Smith added. There were a lot of things for the girls to do in the following days. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The squirrel having recovered, they knew it was the time. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 There were a lot of things for the girls to do in the following days. They first consulted an experienced breeder and searched on the Internet the ways of how to raise squirrels. Then they set up a small warm and comfortable house to give the little animal a place to shelter. They also went to the supermarket to buy varieties of foods to feed it. The two girls took good care of the squirrel carefully. They prayed everyday for the little animal to recover quickly. The squirrel having recovered, they knew it was the time. It was the time for the little animal to leave them to the wild. They felt sad and worried. They worried whether it was safe for it to live alone in the wild. But they knew that they must do it. As the vet said, the little buddy belongs to nature. Animals must go to nature to train themselves the skills to live by themselves. Finally, the two girls brought the little squirrel to the park and set it free. 词汇激活 行为类 ①咨询:consult/ask ②查找:search/look for ③建立:set up/build 情绪类 ①伤心的:sad/unhappy ②担心的:worried/concerned 【点睛】【高分句型1】They worried whether it was safe for it to live alone in the wild.(由whether引导的宾语从句) 【高分句型2】But they knew that they must do it.(由that引导的宾语从句) 【高分句型3】As the vet said, the little buddy belongs to nature.(由As引导的定语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 遵义市2023~2024学年度第二学期期末质量监测 高二英语 (满分:150分 时间:120分钟) 注意事项: 1. 1. D Architects are creating new kinds of buildings to deal with global warming. At the same time global warming brings unique challenges to buildings, according to the news website The Conversation. A. Doris, a brave girl, gently touched the squirrel’s leg, and the squirrel cried in pain. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
