Grammar Focus-3c 课型 Grammar Lesson 课时 The 2nd period of unit 4 (Grammar: Imperative sentences) Analysis of teaching materials The theme of this unit is about rules, and Section A is about School rules, which Ss are very familiar with. Therefore, they are interested in learning this unit. The main grammar in this unit is imperative sentences, especially Don’t, which is also the teaching focus of this class. Since Ss have learned a little about imperative sentences in the primary school, we can let Ss try to summarize the rules of imperative sentences by themselves before class, which can also help develop their ability of independent learning. What’s more, another grammar focus is the modal verbs must (only for positive statements) & have to (for positive and negative statements, and general questions).Therefore, this lesson is to sort out and consolidate the grammar of this unit. Analysis of students Emotional and ability features: The students in this class 5 are active in thinking and answering questions in class. But their English language ability is generally weak. They are not good at expressing their opinions in English and rely on T to provide them with a sentence pattern framework. They need more chances and language support to express themselves in English. Knowledge level：Ss have learned the imperative sentences (Let’s do….) and its simple definition in the primary school. But they don’t learn about the types of imperative sentences systematically. And in Period 1 of this unit, they have been exposed in the context of the imperative sentences. Before class, they were asked to try to summarize the rules of imperative sentences – Do, Be & Don’t by themselves. Besides, they are familiar with the topic of this unit – rules, which can help them to express themselves in class. Teaching objectives By the end of this lesson, Ss will be able to: 1. Language Knowledge: Learn different types of imperative sentences – Do, Be & Don’t. 2. Language skills: 1) Review and practice using the following sentence patterns to talk about rules: -Can we do…? -Do we have to do…? -Yes, we can. / No, we can’t. –Yes, we do. / No, we don’t. 2) Use imperatives sentences to talk about the rules in our school and make rules for our class. (Do, Be & Don’t) 3. Cultural awareness: Know about rules and understand the importance of following the rules. 4. Learning ability: 1) Develop the ability of independent learning - summarizing the rules of imperative sentences by themselves. 2) Develop the ability of evaluating their learning and their deskmates’ in this lesson. Activity 2: Make a summary 1. T guides Ss to summarize the sentences that can be used to talk about rules. 2. Let Ss pay attention to the third person singular form. Activity 3: Practice T lets Ss finish Exercise 3a and check the answers. 1. To review the sentences learned in Period 1 about rules and practice Ss’ speaking skills of talking about rules. 2. Presentation & Practice （15 minutes） Activity 1: Learn the positive forms of imperative sentences-Type Do & Type Be. T guides Ss to summarize the structure of Imperative Sentences - Type Do & Type Be. Step 2: Practice - Type Do & Type Be 1. T lets Ss listen to the song Take Me to Your Heart and fill in the blanks in the imperative sentences of the song. 2. T lets Ss look at the pictures and say out the rules in our school by using the imperative sentences -Type Do & Type Be. Step 3: Learn the main negative forms of imperative sentences-Type Don’t 1. T lets Ss listen to the songs Try and Hey Jude and find out the sentences with Don’t. 2. T guides Ss to summarize the structure of Imperative Sentences - Type Don’t. Step 4: Practice - Type Don’t T lets Ss look at the pictures and say out the rules in our school by using the imperative sentences -Type Don’t. 1. To practice Ss’ skill of summarizing the grammar rules by themselves. 2. To let Ss know the rules of imperative sentences systematically. 3. To check whether Ss understand the rules of imperative sentences-Types Do & Be & Don’t. 4. To let Ss try to use the imperative sentences-Types Do & Be & Don’t to talk about rules. 5. Production （13 minutes） Step 1: Find and say T lets Ss look for the signs put in the classroom everywhere as quickly as possible and say the signs out in English by using imperative sentences. Step 2: Make Rules for Class 5 1. T guides Ss to make a poster Rules for Class 5 with their deskmates by using the imperative sentences learned in this lesson and the signs they found. 2. T invites some Ss to show their Rules for Class 5. 1. To let Ss practice using the imperative sentences - Types Do & Be & Don’t to create more rules for our class. Ss can make Rules for Class 5 by using the imperative sentences with their deskmates.
