Picking the right hotel for your trip is very important for tourists in Athens as it’s a fairly sprawling city with a lot of different neighborhoods to choose from. To help you choose here’s my list of the best hotels in Athens:
A. Athens Center Square Hotel
In Plaka, this hotel has a minimalist design with welcoming pastel colors throughout, and most rooms have a view of the Acropolis (雅典卫城). Rooms are simple but decently sized, with flat-screen TVs, desks, mini fridges, air conditioning. The delicious buffet breakfast is complimentary and quite expansive, featuring Greek and American cuisine. There’s also free coffee and tea in the lobby all day long.
B. Athensdot
This newer property is in Psyrri, has a cool, pop-art design throughout, with large scale drawings on the walls and bright bursts of red everywhere. Rooms vary from internal rooms with no window to rooms with a balcony and views of the Acropolis. While there’s no breakfast served at the property, there’s a cute 24-hour café just a few doors down that serves food at all hours.
C. Coco-Mat Hotel
This design-forward 4-star hotel, run by the mattress company Coco-Mat, is in the heart of Kolonaki, a quiet neighborhood renowned for its upscale boutiques and art galleries. All rooms are equipped with high-quality mattresses, and you can even choose your pillow from a menu with 12 different pillow types. There’s a fantastic Greek breakfast buffet in the mornings.
D. Plaka Hotel
Comfortable and friendly, Plaka Hotel is (you guessed it) in the heart of Plaka. You’ll find the majority of ruins and tourist attractions here. This simply decorated hotel boasts the starry scenery of the Acropolis from both in-room balconies and the rooftop terrace bar/restaurant. There’s also a complimentary (and huge) buffet breakfast featuring local specialties.
1. Which one can provide a variety of pillows?
A. Athens Center Square Hotel. B. Athensdot.
C. Coco-Mat Hotel. D. Plaka Hotel.
2. All of the mentioned hotels serve local food EXCEPT .
A. Athens Center Square Hotel B. Athensdot
C. Coco-Mat Hotel D. Plaka Hotel
3. If a photographer aims to take pictures of night scenes of the Acropolis which one might she/he prefer?

Around 30 years ago, while collecting baked goods from a grocery store in Salt Lake City for a local food bank, Shauna Devenport noticed the waste of hundred of pieces of bread that were only a day or two past their expiration date (有效期). She then requested the bread that would otherwise be thrown away, placing them on her front porch (门廊) and inviting anyone in need to take as much as they required.
Devenport repeated this process and observed the response: “I’d put it out and an hour or so later, it was gone... People would show up from all over. I saw there was a real need out there.” She then approached her neighbors and asked them to assist her in collecting the store’s bread every day, and around twelve agreed to help.
As reported in a recent US Department of Agriculture study, about 40% of the US food supply is wasted yearly. Besides expired bread, a variety of food items were being thrown away, such as bad-looking produce. canned goods, and even muscle-building drinks. Devenport explained that grocery stores often refuse to sell items that are beyond their “sell-by” dates, even though they may still be safe to eat. Devenport believes in the importance of minimizing waste and she added, “I’ve never heard of anyone getting sick from something they’ve taken from the porch.”
Devenport has been providing help for people in need for nearly 30 years. She had to take a break from her work when she had an operation at 67 years old. However, she made it her goal to continue her mission as long as possible. Over the years, she has fed thousands and thousands. In addition to food, her front porch has become a spot for donations of shoes, clothing, and furniture from neighbors and others who know that people in need will visit the porch.
4. Which of the following can describe Devenport’s first act of kindness?
A. It happened by accident. B. It benefited grocery stores.
C. It inspired Devenport’s neighbors. D. It was supported by a local food bank.
5. What did Devenport do after knowing people’s reaction to the bread?
A. She made more bread with her neighbors. B. She called on groceries to reduce waste.
C. She determined to collect more bread. D. She invited more people to share the bread.
6. Why did the author mention a study in the third paragraph?
A. To put forward a question to discuss. B. To explain the importance of food safety.
C. To state the seriousness of food waste. D. To introduce a new opinion to readers.
7. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. Devenport will stop her donation because of illness.
B. Fewer and fewer people need Devenport’s help.
C. More and more people start sharing goods at their porches.
D. Devenport makes donation a thing of her life.
【答案】4. A 5. C 6. C 7. D

The Internet is a very useful resource, It’s no surprise, then, that people tend to use it for all sorts of purposes—even medical advice. In the USA, I in 20 Google searches contains questions related to health.
“There are plenty of reasons why people might turn to the Internet rather than go to see a doctor. After all, a doctor may require an appointment (预约), while information about medical treatments on the Internet can be found right away. So people may not want to leave their homes and wait for their turns to see doctors. Others just want to feel informed before they go to the doctor’s office, so they can be well-prepared for the visit and the cost of the treatment. Sometimes, people put so much trust in the information they find online that they don’t think seeing a doctor is necessary,” Tracy Sam, a manager from a website said.
Going online for medical advice may sound like a good idea. Indeed, some famous hospitals in the world have websites that allow users to look up their symptoms (症状). However, illnesses can be much more complex (复杂的) than they seem. A single fever could have extensive causes, which can include the common cold, food poisoning, and cancer. Reading long lists of possible causes of a condition is enough for anyone to become confused. If this is the case, Internet searches can actually make things worse.
Nowadays patients’ habit of researching their symptoms online also becomes popular. Doctors often report that some patients are persuaded that their illnesses should be much more serious than they actually are. Such patients often insist on expensive tests and treatments that they don’t need. Doctors also find that some patients think they know better than the doctors themselves after looking up medical advice online. They are called “know-it-all” patients. There are actually many mistakes about online medical advice. But these patients seldom doubt it. Doctors always feel they can’t do anything to change these patients’ minds.
Searching your symptoms online can be useful when you really have some medical emergencies or when you have some difficulties in understanding some medical technical words. However, the Internet is not a replacement for a medical professional. In the end, you should go to see doctors because they know best.
8. What does Tracy Sam suggest?
A. Hospitals are overcrowded.
B. Patients like instant information.
C. Hospitals offer expensive treatments.
D. Patients seldom believe in online information.
9. What does the underlined word “extensive” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. long-lasting B. wide-ranging C. common D. immediate
10. How can doctors feel if they come across “know-it-all” patients?
A. Offensive. B. Unknown. C. Powerless. D. Selfless.
11. Why does the author write the last paragraph?
A. To make a suggestion. B. To give an example.
C. To draw a comparison. D. To describe a situation.
【答案】8. B 9. B 10. C 11. A
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要讲的是互联网在提供医疗建议方面的角色和局限性,以及人们倾向于使用互联网进行医疗查询的现象。
【8题详解】
推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“After all, a doctor may require an appointment, while information about medical treatments on the Internet can be found right away.(毕竟,看医生可能需要预约,而网上的医疗信息可以马上找到。)”
根据倒数第二段“They are called “know-it-all” patients.(他们被称为“无所不知”的病人。)”和“Doctors always feel they can’t do anything to change these patients’ minds.(医生总是觉得他们无法做任何事情来改变这些病人的想法。)”可知,当医生遇到“无所不知”的病人时,他们会觉得无能为力。故选C。
【11题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“Searching your symptoms online can be useful when you really have some medical emergencies or when you have some difficulties in understanding some medical technical words. However, the Internet is not a replacement for a medical professional. In the end, you should go to see doctors because they know best.(当你真的有一些医疗紧急情况或当你在理解一些医学术语方面有困难时,在线搜索你的症状可能会很有用。然而,互联网并不能取代医疗专业人员。最后,你应该去看医生,因为他们知道最好的。)”可知,最后一段主要是提建议,也就是建议还是应该去看医生,因此作者写最后一段的目的是提建议,故选A。

Located in the hills of the Garhwal Himalayan range, Mussoorie has been visited by many people since the British ruled India. Mussoorie, known for its greenery and peaceful atmosphere, is home to 30,000 people and attracts more than three million tourists every year.
Huge numbers of tourists and modern life have left the scenic town filled with plastic waste, be it bags or bottles. For this reason, an unusual structure, titled the Wall of Hope, was built by using 15,000 plastic bottles near Mussoorie. The structure was built as a part of the Hilldaari project which aims to increase awareness about the waste management and the importance of creating a plastic-free society. The Hilldarri team, which has been regularly organizing cleanup drives across Mussooric till now, worked together with Museum of Goa Foundation, which aims to take art to the masses.
Mayank Tandon, a member of the Hilldarri project, says, “There are changes in the behavior of people visiting Mussoorie. The wall will be an art project, and we hope it will lead to responsible tourism. Speaking about the wall, we collect plastic bottles from 16 hotels across Mussoorie. More and more volunteers from schools across the hill station took part in the construction of this wall over two months. We never lectured them and convinced hotels to recycle. They showed great passion (热情)because they knew they were doing an art project.”
Speaking about the reaction of people to the wall, Mayank says, “Everyone was quite shocked to see that something so beautiful could be made from plastic.” Despite the growing awareness regarding plastic pollution, most of us ignore the efforts of waste workers. These people tirelessly clean up the mess so that it doesn’t end up in open spaces or near our house.
12. What do we know about Mussoorie?
A. It is a popular tourist spot. B. It is located in Europe.
C. It is built on the top of a mountain. D. It is known for its huge population.
13. What is the goal of the Hilldaari project?
A. To collect bottles and bags.
B. To manage the art museum.
C. To build modern constructions.
D. To promote the protection of the environment.
14. What does Mayank Tandon suggest?
A. The wall project gave lectures to volunteers.
B. The wall project received active reaction.
C. The wall project improved tourism in Mussoorie.
D. The wall project encouraged waste workers to recycle.
15. What is the best title of the text?
A. People Put Art in an Environmentally-friendly Project
B. A Plastic Wall is Shown at Museum of Goa Foundation

【15题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第二段的“Huge numbers of tourists and modern life have left the scenic town filled with plastic waste, be it bags or bottles. 第二节(满分25分)
52. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
One Sunday, I went shopping gladly in the largest supermarket in my town on my own. My old sister had planned to go with me, but it turned out that she was too busy that Sunday.
As the important festival was just around the corner, the supermarket was packed with people. There were many young girls and ladies who were hanging the handbags loosely (松弛地) over their shoulders. I also did like that. Although my mother always advised that I should hang it carefully over my shoulder, I refused to do so. Although it sometimes made her angry, her advice always fell on deaf ears.
Because the supermarket was selling many things at less than their usual prices, I paid my attention completely to the goods of low prices. I especially concentrated on the clothes with a new design which I wanted to buy for a long time. They were offered at the discount of up to 70%.
This made me not wary (提防的) of my loosely-hanging handbag, inside which was all my pocket money that I had saved for some time. I did not realize that it had attracted the attention of a bad person. He was secretly looking at me but my eyes were fixed on the clothes and I did not see him.
Suddenly, there was a pull on my shoulder. It made me lose the balance of my body, and my arms hit a piece of metal used to hang clothing on. As a result, I had a bad cut. Blood was flowing down from my arm.
After recovering from my shock, I quickly called for help. “Stop him! My handbag! Thief! Thief!” I shouted anxiously, and then, I could not even say a sentence properly. A strong young man — I later learned his name was Jeff — heard my cries for help and made a beeline for the thief, who was running down the stairs.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Without thinking, Jeff jumped toward the thief.

“You’d better carry your handbag carefully next time.” Jeff smiled.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 Without thinking. Jeff jumped towards the thief. Soon, he pinned the thief down. “I got you!” Jeff announced happily. He then took my handbag off the thief’s hands. Meanwhile, the security guards came. They tied the thief’s hands and took him away. Jeff came towards me and returned the handbag to me. I thanked him gratefully. Seeing my wounded arm, Jeff borrowed the first aid box from the supermarket, with which he cleaned my wound, and wrapped a bandage around it.
“You’d better carry your handbag carefully next time,” Jeff smiled. I nodded, sincerely thanked him again and said goodbye. When leaving, I could hear some ladies whispering, “we should be careful next time.” The incident was truly a lesson not only to me but to others. When I reached home, my mother blamed me for my carelessness. I apologized for not following her advice earlier, and told her Jeff’s heroic deed. That night, I wrote two sentences in my journal. One is that we must take good care of ourselves. The other is that there are heroes around us.

Picking the right hotel for your trip is very important for tourists in Athens as it’s a fairly sprawling city with a lot of different neighborhoods to choose from. To help you choose, here’s my list of the best hotels in Athens:

After all a doctor may require an appointment (预约), while information about medical treatments on the Internet can be found right away.

C It is built on the top of a mountain. D. It is known for its huge population.
13. What is the goal of the Hilldaari project?
A. To collect bottles and bags.
B. To manage the art museum.

D. To promote the protection of the environment.
14. What does Mayank Tandon suggest?
A. The wall project gave lectures to volunteers.
B. The wall project received active reaction.
C. The wall project improved tourism in Mussoorie.
