Christine Alm, who has the virtue of being ready to help others, is the co-founder of Dyslexia Road and the mother of four children with dyslexia. According to Alm, each diagnosis(诊断)is unique. That can make it difficult to understand a child’s learning needs. Alm has recently co-founded Dyslexia Road with three other moms whose children also have dyslexia. The nonprofit organization provides learning resources for children who have the learning disability. Dyslexia means a person has trouble processing written words due to the difficulty of identifying speech sounds. Alm explains that people with dyslexia need more assistance in training their brain to read. But she adds that many people with dyslexia are extremely creative and smart. Whoopi Goldberg, Dav Pilkey and Steven Spielberg are among the famous Americans who have dyslexia. For Alm, the biggest challenge dealing with dyslexia with her own children is the stigma surrounding the topic. She believes that it’s helpful to have open and honest discussions. “Dyslexia is nothing good or bad, ”she says.“ So children don’t need to feel shameful and embarrassed.” Alm and the other co-founders of Dyslexia Road host community events to share resources about dyslexia. On March 2, the organization celebrated its launch with a community gathering. Many people turned up, suggesting to Alm the “power of community”. Dyslexia Road will also host three additional events to connect families with learning experts. Guests will discuss the available educational options, how to get a diagnostic evaluation and more. Additionally, the Dyslexia Road website offers resources like books. “We’re excited to get out there and start pushing forward so that people can come together and figure out how to direct this journey,” Alm says. 4. What do the co-founders of Dyslexia Road have in common? A. Their kids are unique and perfect. B. Their kids have the same problem. C. They suffer from learning disability. D. They ignore children’s learning needs. 5. What does Alm suggest doing for people with dyslexia? A. Helping them do more brain exercises. B. Making them realise they lack creativity. C. Creating special reading materials for them. D. Encouraging them to turn to their own families. 6. What does the underlined word “stigma” in paragraph 4 mean? A. Shame. B. Selection. C. Principle D. Origin. 7. What’s the purpose of hosting the three additional events? A. To find out kids with dyslexia. B. To provide the professional services C. To sell books about mental disability. D. To introduce great people with dyslexia. 【答案】4. B 5. A 6. A 7. B 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章介绍的是克莉丝汀·阿尔姆拥有随时准备帮助他人的美德,她是“阅读障碍之路”的联合创始人,也是四个患有阅读障碍的孩子的母亲。她与其他创始人开创该项目帮助那些具有同样“阅读障碍”的孩子们,并且指导他们能够更好的走完这段旅途。 【4题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“Christine Alm, who has the virtue of being ready to help others, is the co-founder of Dyslexia Road and the mother of four children with dyslexia. (克莉丝汀·阿尔姆拥有随时准备帮助他人的美德,她是“阅读障碍之路”的联合创始人,也是四个患有阅读障碍的孩子的母亲。)”以及“Alm has recently co-founded Dyslexia Road with three other moms whose children also have dyslexia. The nonprofit organization provides learning resources for children who have the learning disability. (Alm最近与另外三位孩子也患有阅读障碍的母亲共同创立了“阅读障碍之路”。这家非营利组织为有学习障碍的儿童提供学习资源。)”可知,阅读障碍之路的联合创始人的孩子们都有着同样的问题即阅读障碍。故选B。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“Alm explains that people with dyslexia need more assistance in training their brain to read. (阿尔姆解释说,患有阅读障碍的人需要更多的帮助来训练他们的大脑阅读。)”可知,对于阅读障碍,阿尔姆建议他们需要更多的帮助来训练他们的大脑阅读。根据故选A。 【6题详解】 词义猜测题。根据划线词后面的内容“She believes that it’s helpful to have open and honest discussions. “Dyslexia is nothing good or bad, ”she says.“ So children don’t need to feel shameful and embarrassed.”(她认为开诚布公的讨论很有帮助。她说:“阅读障碍没有好坏之分。”“所以孩子们不需要感到羞耻和尴尬。”)”可知,阿尔姆认为阅读障碍没有好坏之分,故当谈论该话题的时候,不要感到羞耻和尴尬,她之所以这样说,是为了解决她的自己孩子在解决“阅读障碍”过程中面临的最大挑战,即当谈论话题时,孩子们会感觉到羞耻。故划线词的含义与A选项“shame(羞愧)”为同义词。故选A。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“ Dyslexia Road will also host three additional events to connect families with learning experts. Guests will discuss the available educational options, how to get a diagnostic evaluation and more. Additionally, the Dyslexia Road website offers resources like books.”(阅读障碍之路还将举办另外三项活动,将家庭与学习专家联系起来。客人将讨论可用的教育选项、如何获得诊断评估等。此外,阅读障碍之路网站还提供书籍等资源。)最后一段“We’re excited to get out there and start pushing forward so that people can come together and figure out how to direct this journey,” Alm says.(“我们很高兴能走出去,开始向前推进,这样人们就可以走到一起,找出如何指导这段旅程,” 阿尔姆说。)”可知,之所以举办另外三个活动其目的是为了给同样遭遇的人们做出合理的指导,为他们提供专业的支持和帮助,这样能够更合理的解决“阅读障碍”这个问题。故选B。 C “Long time no see.” is a very interesting sentence. When I first read this sentence from an American friend’s e-mail, I laughed. I thought it was a perfect example of Chinglish. Obviously, it is a word-by-word literal translation (直译) of the Chinese greeting with wrong English grammar! Later on, my friend told me that it is a standard American greeting. I was too surprised to believe her. Her words were unbelievable at all. So I did research on Google.com. To my surprise, there are over 60 thousand web pages containing “Long time no see.” Though it is sort of informal, it is part of the language that Americans use daily. Interestingly, if you type this phrase in Microsoft Word, the software will tell you that the grammar needs to be corrected. Nobody knows the origin of this Chinglish sentence. Some people believe that it came from Charlie Chan’s movies. In the 1930s, Hollywood moviemakers successfully created a worldwide famous Chinese detective named “Charlie Chan” on wide screens. Detective Chan liked to teach Americans some Chinese wisdom by quoting Confucius. “Long time no see.” was his symbol. Soon after Charlie Chan, “Long time no see.” became a popular expression in America thanks to the popularity of these movies. Some scholars compare America to a huge melting pot. All kinds of cultures are mixed in the pot together and they change the color and taste of each other. Language is usually the first thing to be influenced in the mixed pot. You can have some examples from other countries, such as pizza from Italian, sushi from Japanese, and déjà vu from French etc. There is a long list! Since Americans admire Chinese culture more and more nowadays, I believe more Chinese words will become American English in the future. In this way, the American’s melting pot keeps adding richness. 8. Why did the writer himself feel surprised? A. “Long time no see.” is a Chinglish expression. B. He’s found Americans use the expression formally every day. C. So many literal translations of expressions are used in America. D. “Longtime no see.” is used as a standard American English greeting. 9. What do the underlined words “a huge melting pot” in paragraph 4 probably mean? A. A large boiling cooker. B. Cross-cultural mixture. C. A kind of cooked dish. D. Confucius’s famous words. 10. What can be inferred from the passage? A. Detectives translated the phrase “Long time no see.” B. Cultures cannot be changed in the huge melting pot. C. Hollywood probably made “Longtime no see.” popular. D The huge melting pot greatly affects all kinds of languages. 11. What is the main idea of the passage? A. Some American expressions can be used in China. B. Americans have a strong interest in Chinese culture. C. American English keeps being enriched by different cultures. D. Some Chinese daily expressions are introduced into English. 【答案】8. D 9. B 10. C 11. C 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要通过“Long time no see”这一表达是标准的美式问候语,说明了美国的语言融合了不同的文化。 【8题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“Later on, my friend told me that it is a standard American greeting. I was too surprised to believe her. Her words were unbelievable at all.(后来,我的朋友告诉我这是标准的美国问候语。我太惊讶了,不敢相信她)”可知,作者感到惊讶是因为发现“Longtime no see”是一句标准的美式问候语。故选D。 【9题详解】 词句猜测题。根据划线词后文“All kinds of cultures are mixed in the pot together and they change the color and taste of each other. Language is usually the first thing to be influenced in the mixed pot.(各种文化混合在一起,它们改变了彼此的颜色和味道。语言通常是首先受到影响的东西)”可知,美国将各种文化混合在一起,导致语言受到影响,即它进行了跨文化融合。故划线词意思是“跨文化融合”。故选B。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“In the 1930s, Hollywood moviemakers successfully created a worldwide famous Chinese detective named “Charlie Chan” on wide screens. Detective Chan liked to teach Americans some Chinese wisdom by quoting Confucius. “Long time no see.” was his symbol. Soon after Charlie Chan, “Long time no see.” became a popular expression in America thanks to the popularity of these movies.(20世纪30年代,好莱坞电影制作人成功地在大银幕上塑造了一位享誉全球的华裔侦探“陈查理”。陈侦探喜欢引用孔子的话来教美国人一些中国智慧。“Longtime no see.”是他的象征。在陈查理说“Longtime no see.”后由于这些电影的流行,在美国成为一个流行的表达)”可推知,可能是好莱坞让“Longtime no see.”变得受欢迎。故选C。 【11题详解】 主旨大意题。根据最后一段“You can have some examples from other countries, such as pizza from Italian, sushi from Japanese, and déjà vu from French etc. There is a long list! Since Americans admire Chinese culture more and more nowadays, I believe more Chinese words will become American English in the future. In this way, the American’s melting pot keeps adding richness.(你可以从其他国家找到一些例子,比如意大利的披萨,日本的寿司,法国的déjà vu等等。名单很长!由于现在美国人越来越欣赏中国文化,我相信将来会有更多的汉语词汇成为美式英语。通过这种方式,美国的大熔炉不断增添丰富)”结合文章主要通过“Long time no see”这一表达是标准的美式问候语,说明了美国的语言融合了不同的文化。可知,这篇文章的主旨是不同的文化不断丰富着美国英语。故选C。 D Tanzanian government has set up a high-speed internet service on Mount Kilimanjaro, which was named a World Heritage site in 1987. The government says the service will promote safety for climbers and allow people to post selfies as they climb Africa’s tallest mountain at 5,895 meters. The mountain, created by volcanoes and rising out of a large, open flat area, is part of Kilimanjaro National Park in the northeast of Tanzania. Around 50,000 people visit the park each year. But climbing such a tall mountain isn’t easy. Roughly one-third of the people who try to climb it are forced to give up. The new internet service should make it easier for climbers to reach the top. They can use the internet to check maps and find their way, or call for help if they need it. Currently, the new service reaches more than halfway up the mountain. The government says that by the end of the year, climbers will get internet even at the top of Mount Kilimanjaro. The government says safety is the main reason for setting up the internet service on the mountain. As Tanzania depends heavily on tourists, having people post pictures and videos on social media as they climb Mount Kilimanjaro could certainly make the spot even more popular with tourists. Some people in Tanzania are upset that the government is focusing on internet for tourists instead of the livelihood of people living in the country. One study in 2020 showed that only about 83% of the people living in Tanzania can get cell phone service where they live. It also bothered people who were worried that the project might affect the environment on the mountain. Scientists have already warned that the glaciers on top of Mount Kilimanjaro may melt in the next 10 years. So far, the cable car project doesn’t seem to be making much progress. 12. What can we know about Mount Kilimanjaro? A. It is formed by volcanoes. B. It’s a hot place on social media. C. It tries to be a World Heritage site. D. It’s tallest mountain in the world. 13. What’s the internet service meant to do? A. To better protect the environment. B. To show the importance of the Net. C. To help its people connect better. D. To improve the safety of climbers. 14. What has mad some people in Tanzania unhappy with the internet service? A Environmental concern. B. Livelihood of the citizens. C. The poor state of the country. D. International dissatisfaction. 15. Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A. Internet Service Benefits Natives and Visitors. B. Mount Kilimanjaro Becomes More Accessible. C. Opinions Differ With the Internet Access in Kilimanjaro. D. Safety Measures Free Visitors From Safety Concerns. 【答案】12. A 13. D 14. B 15. C 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述非洲国家坦桑尼亚在非洲最高峰乞力马扎罗山上建设高这网络,并有望让网络信号覆盖整座山脉,这将会为登山的游客常来更高的安全系数,但同时也引起了一些民众的不满。 【12题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“The mountain, created by volcanoes and rising out of a large, open flat area, is part of Kilimanjaro National Park in the northeast of Tanzania. (这座山是坦桑尼亚东北部乞力马扎罗山国家公园的一部分,由火山形成,从一片开阔的平地上升起。)”可知,乞力马扎罗山是因火山喷发而诞生的。故选A。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“The government says safety is the main reason for setting up the internet service on the mountain. (政府表示,安全是在山上建立互联网服务的主要原因。)”可知,在乞力马扎罗山建立高速网络的目的是保障游客的安全。故选D。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段“Some people in Tanzania are upset that the government is focusing on internet for tourists instead of the livelihood of people living in the country. One study in 2020 showed that only about 83% of the people living in Tanzania can get cell phone service where they live. The government says the service will promote safety for climbers and allow people to post selfies as they climb Africa’s tallest mountain at 5,895 meters. (坦桑尼亚政府在乞力马扎罗山建立了高速互联网服务,该山于1987年被命名为世界遗产。政府表示,这项服务将提高登山者的安全性,并允许人们在攀登5895米的非洲最高山峰时发布自拍。)”和最后一段“Some people in Tanzania are upset that the government is focusing on internet for tourists instead of the livelihood of people living in the country. In a bowl of freshly tossed salad, all the ingredients are mixed together.___16___All the ingredients of a salad contribute to the finished product. They may be covered with the same dressing, but the green vegetables, tomatoes, lettuce and eggs can all be seen for what they are. ___17___Individual ethnic groups blend together, yet keep their cultural uniqueness. People may work together during the day at similar jobs and in the same companies, but at night they may return to their ethnic communities where their own individual culture directs their way of life. The other concept which is also used to describe American society, is the melting pot.___18___and yield a bit of what they were to become a new reality. The longer the soup is cooked, the better the taste and the more likely it will be for the mixture to dissolve. In this sense, America can surely be seen as a melting pot where people from all over the world come to live and work together forming one nation. There are dozens of shared symbols.___19___In such a culture, symbols like the flag and the nation’s official song serve to break down the walls which separate ethnic groups. Whether a salad bowl or a melting pot, America can best be described as a mixture of both.___20___ A. Both are correct depending upon one’s point of view. B. From this point of view, America is very much like a salad bowl. C. All of the ingredients mix together, losing their identity D. That is to say, America is a nation where there is unity in diversity. E. Thus, one needs to abandon one’s culture to be considered “American”. F. They never lose their shape, form, or identity. G. They serve to develop the various ethnic groups to create a new American society. 【答案】16. F 17. B 18. C 19. G 20. D 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇议论文。文章主要讲的是有人将美国比喻成一个沙拉碗,有人将美国比喻成大熔炉,在作者看来,美国最好是二者的混合体,即多元统一。 【16题详解】 根据空前“In a bowl of freshly tossed salad, all the ingredients are mixed together. 根据空后“Individual ethnic groups blend together, yet keep their cultural uniqueness. People may work together during the day at similar jobs and in the same companies, but at night they may return to their ethnic communities where their own individual culture directs their way of life.(各民族融合在一起,但又保持其文化独特性。 From this point of view指代文章第一段讲的美国是个沙拉碗的观点,符合上下文语境。故选B项。 【18题详解】 根据空前“The other concept, which is also used to describe American society, is the melting pot.(另一个概念,也被用来描述美国社会,是大熔炉)”可知,此处是将美国比喻成一个大熔炉,根据空后“and yield a bit of what they were to become a new reality. The longer the soup is cooked, the better the taste and the more likely it will be for the mixture to dissolve. 【19题详解】 根据空前“There are dozens of shared symbols.(共有的象征有几十个)”可知,在美国这个大熔炉里存在一些共同的元素,根据空后“In such a culture, symbols like the flag and the nation’s official song serve to break down the walls which separate ethnic groups.(在这样的文化中,像国旗和官方歌曲这样的象征是为了打破分隔各民族的壁垒)”可知,在一种全新的文化里面国旗和官方歌曲起了很大的作用,空处承上启下,所以空处应该讲这些共同元素的作用是什么,G项“They serve to develop the various ethnic groups to create a new American society.(他们致力于发展不同的种族群体,创造一个新的美国社会)”指出了这些共同元素的作用是为了创造一个新的美国社会,而且G项中的They指代上文的dozens of shared symbols,空后的such a culture指代a new American society,承接上文,引出下文,符合上下文语境。故选G项。 【20题详解】 根据空前“Whether a salad bowl or a melting pot, America can best be described as a mixture of both.(无论美国是一个沙拉碗还是一个大熔炉,最好的形容是两者的混合体)”可知,在作者看来,美国最好是沙拉碗和大熔炉的混合体,即各种食材既交汇在一起,又不失自己的特色,所以空处应是对前文的总结,说明这种混合体的特点,D项“That is to say, America is a nation where there is unity in diversity.(也就是说,美国是一个多元统一的国家)”总结上文,符合上下文语境。故选D项。 第二部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 Some people say he is a hero. B In Phoenix, Arizona, about one in five children is identified with dyslexia(阅读障碍).That means about four students in a classroom of twenty have the problem. 4. A “Long time no see.” is a Chinglish expression. A. Detectives translated the phrase “Long time no see.” B Cultures cannot be changed in the huge melting pot. C. Hollywood probably made “Longtime no see.” popular. D. The huge melting pot greatly affects all kinds of languages. 11. What is the main idea of the passage? A. Some American expressions can be used in China. B. Americans have a strong interest in Chinese culture. C. American English keeps being enriched by different cultures. D. Some Chinese daily expressions are introduced into English. D Tanzanian government has set up a high-speed internet service on Mount Kilimanjaro, which was named a World Heritage site in 1987. As Tanzania depends heavily on tourists having people post pictures and videos on social media as they climb Mount Kilimanjaro could certainly make the spot even more popular with tourists. D To improve the safety of climbers. 14. What has mad some people in Tanzania unhappy with the internet service? A. Environmental concern. D. As Kevin stood there staring at the ad, an idea struck him. He hurried home to his piggy bank, Pigzy, and decided to help Mrs. Murphy. After he broke the piggy bank into pieces, he counted all the money, and there was $170 in total. He put the $20 bill in his study table drawer, the rest in his pocket, and ran to Mrs. Murphy’s house. When the older lady opened her door, she was surprised to see an eight-year-old in her doorway, a bright smile on his face. “I got your MONEY!”said Kevin excitedly as he pulled out crumpled(弄皱的)dollar bills and coins from his piggy bank.“I counted it ...it’s $150.” “Oh, honey, but did you find this outside the grocery store?”“No,I didn’t,”replied Kevin. “I had to break Pigzy, my piggy bank. I was saving this up for my skateboard, but that’s okay. I’m happy to help you.” Mrs. Murphy’s eyes were filled with tears as she held the money. She said,“Oh, thank ...thank you. What’s your name, little man? Do you live around here?” ”I’m Kevin,“ he said.”I live a couple of houses away. I know you needed the money badly, Mrs. Murphy. I know you don’t have enough money. Mom once told me you aren’t rich ...” The older lady hugged him with full tears in her eyes and said,“You have a heart of gold, honey. Thank you so much. I appreciate your help.
