B Unlike many other travelers, who usually ride bicycles, motorbikes, or cars to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way to the border, Xiaxia, a 28-year-old backpacker, chose to walk. In November, 2021, she, set off from Wuhan in Hubei Province, passing through Hunan, Chongqing, and Sichuan, eventually reaching the Potala Palace in the Xizang Autonomous Region, covering a total distance of over 5,800 kilometers in a year and three months. Her path was extremely dangerous, often troubled by altitude (海拔) sickness and the wildness of the surrounding areas. She persevered (坚持) through the night until dawn when she finally saw villages and people, when she could put up her tent and get her supplies. Brushing her teeth and washing her hair outdoors became routine, and she once found herself in a standoff with a wolf at night. After her first journey, Xiaxia slimmed down from 110 to 90 pounds, quit her soda habit, and gained muscle. To save money, she only stayed in hotels a few days a month to clean her clothes and sleeping bag, relying on service areas or local people for other needs. She met with a wide range of fellow travelers, villagers offering local specialties, and supportive fans, and those less welcoming. Discussing the change in her appearance that aroused heated discussions online, Xiaxia said her journey healed her of “spiritual exhaustion” and appearance anxieties. “My goal is to experience the world and challenge myself. Our troubles are small compared to the vastness of nature. My sunburns are symbols of my efforts, they make me love myself more.” On how she managed to support herself, she stressed living a fulfilling life over traditional employment. “Life is only once; I want to seize it to do what I desire.” Her parents, sensing her determination, respected her choice, and encouraged her to face the unknown. 4. When did Xiaxia complete her journey from Wuhan to the Potala Palace? A. November, 2021. B. November, 2022. C. December, 2022. D. February, 2023. 5. What can we know about Xiaxia’s journey? A. She never stayed in hotels to save money. B. She came across different kinds of people. C. She gained weight and quit her soda habit. D. She brushed her teeth and washed her hair indoors. 6. Which of the following best describes Xiaxia? A. Brave and determined. B. Confident and generous. C. Ambitious and creative. D. Cautious and conservative. 7. What does Xiaxia focus on in her life? A. Spiritual exhaustion. B. Unknown Challenges. C. Appearance anxieties. D. Traditional employment. C Are you more of an “I person” or an “E person”? These two personality labels (标签) in particular are widely discussed online. They are part of a popular personality test called the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, or MBTI. All of the results have four letters, and there are sixteen results in total. “I” and “E” refer to “introverted” and “extroverted”, respectively. Introverts are characterized by a preference for internal (内部的) reflection. They prefer to work independently and think deeply about ideas and concepts. Extroverts, on the other hand, focus on external interaction. They are often outgoing and energized by being around others. However, even if someone is typically quiet, many online discussions suggest that an “I” person can still act outgoing at times. For example, when an introverted person is with a group of introverted friends, they might become more social like an “E” person. According to psychologists, this idea of changing personalities when necessary is called “masking”. That is hiding your true personality in specific situations. “Human beings want to feel they belong, and they might become people-pleasers to do so,” wrote the Master Class website. Using the MBTI result to identify and describe someone’s personality seems fun. However, I went too far at one time. My sister was excitedly making a day-to-day travel plan when I remembered from an article that “P people” don’t like to make or stick to plans, so I said to her, “You don’t seem like a ‘P person’.” “Why?” she asked back. “Why do I need to follow what my personality test tells me to do?” It was then I realized I’d taken the result too seriously. The MBTI personality test may show something you don’t know about yourself and can even be a fun ice-breaker question when meeting new friends. And that’s all it is — for fun. Knowing someone’s MBTI result doesn’t mean you really know this person. And those four letters of yours don’t decide who you are. 8. What may “E person” be like? A. They prefer to be alone. B. They are active in social situation. C. They are tired of social interaction. D. They may avoid meeting new people. 9. According to paragraph 3, what may happen if an “I person” stays with his introverted friends? A. He may prefer to show his true personality. B. He may feel nervous when chatting with friends. C. He may turn into an extroverted person completely. D He may sometimes change his personality to please others. 10. What does the author want to express by mentioning the conversation with his sister? A. He pushed his sister too much. B. He failed to help his sister follow her plan. C. He believed blindly the result of the personality test. D. He discouraged his sister from making a detailed travel plan. 11. What is the best title of this text? A. “I Person”: the Best Personality B. MBTI: a Fun Personality Test C. “E Person”: the Best Personality D. MBTI: a Perfect Personality Test D Birds have a history of troubling operations at airports around the world, but now Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) in the Netherlands has a solution—pigs. The airport is surrounded by crop-growing farmland and wetlands that attract flocks of wild geese. As we all know, after the US Airways flight 1549 had to land in a river, geese can be a hazard to aircraft. All 155 people onboard the Airbus A320-214 survived thanks to Captain Sullenberger’s quick decision-making and his ability to land the plane on the water safely. Without doubt, Amsterdam Schiphol wants to avoid any such incident. Besides having 15 full-time bird controllers who drive around to ensure Schipol’s six runways are bird-free, the airport has developed a unique solution. Between two of the airport’s runways is a sugar beet (甜菜) farm. When the farmer harvests the crop, geese and other birds would arrive to feed on the leftover (残留物) and worms in the turned-over soil. In an experiment, the airport hired pig farmer Josse Haarhuis to let twenty of his pigs stay on the site for six weeks. A pig-free area of similar size at the airport will be observed to compare the differences between the two locations. The airport has installed a special bird detecting system to see whether the pigs’ presence makes a difference. “The pigs were immediately brought to the field within 12 hours of the sugar beet harvest on Tuesday. They eat the crop remains so that there will be nothing left for the geese to get.” said Haarhuis. Besides using noise cannons, scarecrows, and even lasers (激光), the airport’s primary bird defense has killed thousands of geese by shooting them. In 2014, airport workers killed 7,000 geese. Due to their size and number, geese pose a severe risk to aircraft and are a danger if left to gather around the airport. If the pig experiment works out well, perhaps this will no longer be necessary. Let’s hope that the pigs can do their job, and there is no longer a need for the geese to be killed in such large numbers. 12. Why did the author mention US Airways flight 1549 incident? A. To compare the airlines between the US and Dutch. B. To appreciate the Captain’s ability to handle an emergency. C. To warn Dutch airport to check and repair the engine failure. D. To stress the importance of avoiding incidents caused by birds. 13. What does the underlined word “hazard” in paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Threat. B. Benefit. C. Reminder. D. Mistake. 14. Which solution is NOT mentioned to reduce the aircraft incident caused by birds? A. Using noise cannons. B. Hiring birds controllers. C. Banning planting crops. D. Killing birds by shooting. 15. What would be an expected result of the airport’s experiment? A. There would be no other birds at the airport but geese. B. There would be no food left for the birds at the airport. C. There would be no more sugar beet farms at the airport. D. There would be less noise from airplanes at the airport. The best feeling about going back to school is seeing all your friends ___16___ . Then Alice was suddenly thrown into the darkness. The physical limitation changed Alice a lot. She became increasingly isolated (孤僻的). She avoided going out, preferring the quietness of her room to the sounds of the outside world. Her friends, once close, now seemed distant, as Alice pushed them away with her bitter words. She gave up on her dream of a successful career, seeing no point in searching for a job that might never come. Days turned into months. Alice spent her time in loneliness, watching the world pass her by. But one day, a knock on the door broke the silence. It was her friend, Sarah, who had not given up on Alice despite her changes. Sarah sat beside her, listening to her sadness and fears with patience and understanding. Sarah promised to help Alice regain her lost confidence. She began by arranging visits with other friends, encouraging Alice to reconnect with those she had pushed away. Slowly but surely, Alice’s mood improved. Sarah also researched job opportunities that would be suitable for Alice’s condition and applied for her. After weeks of preparation with Sarah’s guidance, Alice’s first job interview finally arrived. Despite her best efforts, the interview didn’t go as smoothly as they had hoped. The interviewer seemed doubtful of Alice’s ability to perform the job duties because of her physical condition. Alice left with a broken heart. As soon as she got home, Alice broke down in tears, feeling like all her hard work had been for nothing. Sarah immediately came to her side with a comforting hug. “Don’t give up, Alice,” Sarah said firmly, “Trust yourself and there will be a company which cares more about your ability. Besides, I can help you. Let’s start from sending out more resumes (简历).” Inspired by Sarah’s words, Alice wiped away her tears and decided to take her friend’s advice. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Finally, after a long wait, Alice received a call offering her the job position she applied for. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 2023—2024学年度第二学期芜湖市高中教学质量监控 高一年级英语试题卷 注意事项: 1. How much is the shirt? 4. D. He may sometimes change his personality to please others. MBTI: a Perfect Personality Test 【答案】8. B 9. D 10. C 11. 根据第二段““I” and “E” refer to “introverted” and “extroverted”, respectively. Introverts are characterized by a preference for internal (内部的) reflection. They prefer to work independently and think deeply about ideas and concepts. Extroverts, on the other hand, focus on external interaction. They are often outgoing and energized by being around others.(“I”和“E”分别指“内向的”和“外向的”。内向者的特点是倾向于内部反思。他们更喜欢独立工作,深入思考想法和概念。另一方面,外向的人注重外部互动。他们经常外向,与他人相处充满活力)”可知,E人,即外向的人注重外部互动,可能在社交场合中表现活跃。故选B项。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“For example, when an introverted person is with a group of introverted friends, they might become more social like an “E” person. According to psychologists, this idea of changing personalities when necessary is called “masking”. That is hiding your true personality in specific situations. “Human beings want to feel they belong, and they might become people-pleasers to do so,” wrote the Master Class website.(例如,当一个内向的人和一群内向的朋友在一起时,他们可能会变得更像一个“E”型人。根据心理学家的说法,这种在必要时改变性格的想法被称为“掩饰”。这就是在特定情况下隐藏你的真实个性。the Master Class网站上写道:“人类希望感受到自己的归属感,他们可能会成为取悦他人的人。”)”可知,如果一个I人和他内向的朋友待在一起,他可能会改变他的性格以取悦他人。故选D项。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段“My sister was excitedly making a day-to-day travel plan when I remembered from an article that “P people” don’t like to make or stick to plans, so I said to her, “You don’t seem like a ‘P person’.” “Why?” she asked back. “Why do I need to follow what my personality test tells me to do?” It was then I realized I’d taken the result too seriously.(当我从一篇文章中想起“P人”不喜欢制定或坚持计划时,我姐姐正在兴奋地制定日常旅行计划,所以我对她说:“你看起来不像一个‘P人’。”“为什么?”她反问。“为什么我需要遵循我的个性测试告诉我要做的事情?”就在那时,我意识到我把结果看得太认真了)”可推知,通过提到与姐姐的对话,作者想要表达的是自己盲目地相信了个性测试的结果。故选C项。 【11题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段“Are you more of an “I person” or an “E person”?(你更像是一个“I人”还是一个“E人”?)”、第二段“These two personality labels (标签) in particular are widely discussed online. They are part of a popular personality test called the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, or MBTI.(特别是这两个个性标签在网上被广泛讨论。它们是一项名为迈尔斯·布里格斯类型指标(MBTI)的受欢迎的个性测试的一部分)”以及文章内容可知,本文主要介绍了MBTI性格测试中“I”型和“E”型两种类型的人格特征,所以“MBTI:一个有趣的人格测试”适合作为文章标题。故选B项。 D Birds have a history of troubling operations at airports around the world, but now Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) in the Netherlands has a solution—pigs. D 13. A 14. C 15. 根据第一段“Birds have a history of troubling operations at airports around the world,(鸟类在世界各地的机场都有麻烦操作的历史)”以及第二段“As we all know, after the US Airways flight 1549 had to land in a river, geese can be a hazard to aircraft. All 155 people onboard the Airbus A320-214 survived thanks to Captain Sullenberger’s quick decision-making and his ability to land the plane on the water safely. In 2014, airport workers killed 7,000 geese.(除了使用噪音炮、稻草人,甚至激光,机场的主要鸟类防御系统还通过射杀数千只大雁来杀死它们。2014年,机场工作人员杀死了7000只大雁)”可知,为了减少鸟类造成的飞机事故,已经采取的解决方案包括使用噪音炮、雇佣鸟类管理员以及射杀鸟类,没有提及禁止种植农作物。故选C项。 【15题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段““The pigs were immediately brought to the field within 12 hours of the sugar beet harvest on Tuesday. They eat the crop remains so that there will be nothing left for the geese to get.” said Haarhuis.(Haarhuis说:“在周二收获甜菜后的12小时内,猪立即被带到田里。它们吃掉剩下的作物,这样大雁就没有什么可吃的了。”)”以及最后一段“If the pig experiment works out well, perhaps this will no longer be necessary. Let’s hope that the pigs can do their job, and there is no longer a need for the geese to be killed in such large numbers.(如果猪的实验结果良好,也许这将不再是必要的。让我们希望猪能做好他们的工作,不再需要如此大量地杀死大雁)”可知,机场实验的预期结果是猪要吃掉所有剩下的作物,大雁就没有什么可吃的了,即机场将没有食物留给鸟类。故选B项。 第二节(共5小题; 每小题2.5分, 满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 The best feeling about going back to school is seeing all your friends. ___16___ . With each application sent, Alice’s confidence grew, and she began to see herself not as someone defined by her limitations but as a capable individual with much to offer. Finally, after a long wait, Alice received a call offering her the job position she applied for. The hiring manager appreciated Alice’s qualifications and admired her resilience. Alice accepted the offer with a heart full of hope and gratitude. On her first day at work, she was greeted with warm smiles and an eagerness to collaborate.
