B A gallery (画廊) was preparing for an exhibition (展出) of two artists ‘works when a manager, Raye Collins, made a remarkable discovery in March, 2024. Looking very closely at the back of an artwork, she found an old cardboard on it which had been painted. She noticed some differences on that backing board. Hi-tech photographic equipment found a hidden painting and then the cardboard was removed through a very delicate process and an early 1940s painting by late modernist artist Ralph Balson was found stuck to the back of a painting that had been done by his close friend and fellow artist Grace Crowley. The painting was given to the gallery almost 45 years ago, not long after Ms. Crowley passed away. The two artists had been good friends and were known to paint together. They often shared or reused materials during the wartime period, when there was a shortage of art supplies. With the word “storage” written on it, the piece was likely attached to Crowley’s work for safekeeping at a time when Australians feared that Sydney Harbour would be bombed during WWII. ‘In the course of my work, we are lucky sometimes to discover an abandoned (被遗弃的) painting or a painting that’s been painted out, or even a painting under another painting,” Collins said. “It’s uncommon that we would find a completely-undamaged painting, which, up until this point, appears to have been completely unknown to art history. Collins thinks people are forever interested in painting discoveries on the other side of existing artwork, and she would never have thought that she was going to make such a discovery. 24. How did Raye Collins discover the hidden painting? A. With the help of hi-tech equipment B. Through a very delicate process. C. By removing the original painting. D. Under the direction of other workers. 25. How old is the hidden artwork? A. Almost 45 years. B. Nearly 60 years. C. About 80 years. D. Over 100 years. 26. What did the two artists do when painting together? A. They learned from each other. B. They made the most of the supplies. C. They shared their artistic inspiration. D. They protected their works from being bombed. 27. What is the best title for the text? A. The Job of an Art Manager B. Masterwork on Exhibition C. A Hidden Painting under Another D. Two Well-known Modernist Artists C Wildlife officials in Thailand carried out a plan on Wednesday to bring peace to a central city after at least 10 years of human-monkey problems. The monkeys that live in Lopburi are a symbol of local culture and a major tourist attraction. But there have been years of dangerous interactions (互动) between humans and the monkeys. Past attempts to control the monkey population have failed. Local people and businesses say they have had enough. The monkeys often try to take food from humans, injuring them in the process. “Officials hope to catch 2, 500 of the monkeys and put them in large enclosed (围住的) places,” said Athapol Charoenshunsa, director- general of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation. They will work with wildlife experts to find a way for a limited number of monkeys to stay in the city. “I don’t want humans to have to hurt monkeys, and I don’t want monkeys to have to hurt humans,” he told reporters in Bangkok. An official monkey-catching project was launched this week. Workers have caught 37 monkeys so far. Most of those animals were placed under the care of wildlife officials in the nearby province of Saraburi. Others were sent to the Lopburi zoo. Officials said they plan to catch more monkeys once the enclosures are complete. Separate cages will be prepared for different groups of monkeys to prevent them from fighting. The monkeys are a symbol of the province, about 140 kilometers north of Bangkok. But some experts said that the city’s monkey troubles were caused by tourists and local people’s feeding the animals. They say feeding them got more monkeys to enter the city in search of food. 28 What did local people think of the monkeys in Lopburi? A. Interesting. B. Unbearable. C. Profitable. D. Unnecessary. 29. What will happen to the monkeys in the city? A. Most of them will be checked regularly. B. They will be raised in local zoos. C. They will be kept to a certain number. D. They will be trained by experts. 30. What causes the city’s monkey trouble according to some experts? A. People’s action of feeding them. B. The shortage of food. C. Government’s improper city planning. D. The rapid development of tourism. 31. What does the text mainly talk about? A. Monkeys in Thailand are bringing much trouble. B. Human activities drive monkeys into a Thai city. C. Tourists are usually found fighting with monkeys in Thailand. D. Officials plan to end monkey attacks in a Thai city. D For more than 75 years, mathematicians have been confused about how to divide resources to make everyone satisfied. For example, how can you cut a cake to make sure everyone at the party is happy with what they get. The “I cut, you choose” method works for two people. What about sharing among three or more? Hugo Steinhaus was a pioneer devoted to this complexity (复杂性). He came up with an improved I-cut-you-choose way for three players, the lone-divider method. Here, someone cuts the cake. Let’s call her Alice. She cuts the cake into three pieces that she values equally. Then a second person, Bob, says which of the pieces he would accept. If he agrees on at least two pieces, then the third person, Carla, can take any piece she wants. At least one of the remaining pieces is acceptable to Bob, so he picks next. Alice gets what’s left. If Bob and Carla both reject the same piece, that piece goes to Alice. The remaining two pieces are recombined and shared between Bob and Carla using I-cut-you-choose. Steinhaus also discussed the “last-cutter” method for any number of cake eaters. But in both the lone-divider and last-cutter approaches, a person who gets an early piece may see a later one they wish they had instead-even though they had at first thought their piece was fair. “Cake works as a stand-in for anything that can be divided,” says Steven Brams, a political scientist at New York University. “Though cake-cutting ideas have some disadvantages, they have real-world uses. How can food be divided up between communities? How should roommates share work? How can communities draw boundaries (边界线)?” 32. What did Hugo Steinhaus use the cake-cutting way to study? A. Fairness. B. Kindness. C. Happiness. D. Generosity. 33. What does the underlined word “reject” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Consume. B. Appreciate. C. Refer to. D. Turn down. 34. What makes the cake-cutting methods imperfect according to paragraph 4? A. The irregular cake. B. The human nature. C. The uncertain process. D. The large number of eaters. 35. What does the last paragraph mainly focus on? A. The standard of the cake- cutting methods. B. The weakness of the cake-cutting methods. C. The practical application of the cake-cutting methods. D. The doubts raised about the cake-cutting methods. Have you been wishing to put on your hiking shoes and enter the woods for a little backpacking trip, but you’re not sure exactly where to start? The most memorable day for me would have to be the day I learned how to swim. Learning new things can be challenging at times. As long as I could remember, I have been afraid of what could happen to me when trying to swim. Later on in life, I started to realize how important a skill of swimming actually was, not to mention very good exercise. What I didn’t realize was that learning to swim could give me a whole new sense of confidence. New situations usually make me a little nervous. This was my first swimming lesson so of course this was no exception. I changed into my trunks(泳裤)and stood next to the pool waiting for the teacher and other students to come out. They came over after a few minutes. The teacher introduced himself and seemed very nice. I was the youngest of all the students, which made me feel more nervous. We all got into the pool. The teacher made us wear floaters(浮子)so that we could start getting comfortable being in the water. One boy Kevin seemed to have taken the class once before, so he got a kickboard(浮板)and started swimming off by himself. Another student was having a hard time keeping his head above water even with floaters, and I wasn’t much better than him. The teacher had us hold on to the wall to practice our kicking for the breaststroke for some time. Then, one by one, he had us hold on to a kickboard and followed us through the water as we kicked. Pretty soon Kevin was off like a good swimmer swimming fast back and forth as if he knew how to swim the whole time. Sadly, things were not that easy for me. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The hard work I put in finally paid off. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 高一英语 考生注意: 1. How much is the shirt? I was so crazy about painting that I painted anytime anywhere. My mother was often mad at me when she saw my paintings everywhere on the walls in our house. She always hoped that I could be a doctor. I guess she wanted me to follow in my father’s footsteps. My father, however, expected me to become a photographer. He even bought me a camera and all kinds of professional books and encouraged me to join in youth photo competitions. However, as you can see, boys and girls, I finally became a teacher. Life is unpredictable. Sometimes you may not achieve the dreams you once had in your childhood. But it doesn’t matter. And it doesn’t mean you’ll have to give up your dreams. You can always leave your dream in your heart and keep it as a lifetime hobby. As for me, I am still good at painting. It’s a great way to relax in my spare time. I also love photography and travelling. All my friends like the photos I take for them. A With thousands of marathons (马拉松) taking place globally each year, deciding which one to enter can be a challenge. Two Well-known Modernist Artists 【答案】24. A 25. C 26. B 27. The monkeys that live in Lopburi are a symbol of local culture and a major tourist attraction. But there have been years of dangerous interactions (互动) between humans and the monkeys. Past attempts to control the monkey population have failed. Local people and businesses say they have had enough. The monkeys often try to take food from humans injuring them in the process. 28. What did local people think of the monkeys in Lopburi? 28. B 29. C 30. A 31. They say feeding them got more monkeys to enter the city in search of food.(但一些专家表示,这座城市的猴子问题是由游客和当地人喂养动物造成的。 故选A。 根据第一段“Wildlife officials in Thailand carried out a plan on Wednesday to bring peace to a central city after at least 10 years of human-monkey problems.(本周三,泰国野生动物保护官员实施了一项计划,希望在持续了至少10年的人猴问题之后,为泰国中部城市带来和平)”可知,文章谈论的话题是泰国官员计划结束猴子袭击事件。 D。 D For more than 75 years, mathematicians have been confused about how to divide resources to make everyone satisfied. A 33. D 34. B 35. 根据第一段中的“For more than 75 years, mathematicians have been confused about how to divide resources to make everyone satisfied. For example, how can you cut a cake to make sure everyone at the party is happy with what they get. The “I cut, you choose” method works for two people. What about sharing among three or more? 、第二段“Hugo Steinhaus was a pioneer devoted to this complexity (复杂性). He came up with an improved I-cut-you-choose way for three players, the lone-divider method. 故选A。 根据第三段中的“Then a second person, Bob, says which of the pieces he would accept. If he agrees on at least two pieces, then the third person, Carla, can take any piece she wants. At least one of the remaining pieces is acceptable to Bob, so he picks next. Alice gets what’s left. 以及“the same piece, that piece goes to Alice (同一块,那块就归爱丽丝)”可知,此处表示“如果Bob 和Carla 都拒绝了同一块蛋糕,那么这一块蛋糕给 Alice”,划线单词的意思是“拒绝”。A. Consume消费;B. Appreciate欣赏;C. Refer to参考;D. Turn down拒绝。 根据第四段中的“But in both the lone-divider and last-cutter approaches, a person who gets an early piece may see a later one they wish they had instead-even though they had at first thought their piece was fair. 根据最后一段““Cake works as a stand-in for anything that can be divided,” says Steven Brams, a political scientist at New York University. “Though cake-cutting ideas have some disadvantages, they have real-world uses. How can food be divided up between communities? How should roommates share work? How can communities draw boundaries (边界线)?” Have you been wishing to put on your hiking shoes and enter the woods for a little backpacking trip, but you’re not sure exactly where to start? ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Sadly, things were not that easy for me. As the class progressed, I found myself falling behind the other students. Kevin, who seemed to have a gift for swimming, was quickly making progress while I was still struggling with the basics. I began to feel discouraged. It seemed that no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t master the point. I struggled to keep my balance in the water. But the teacher taught me at my own pace. And he was very patient and encouraging. He taught me how to move my legs and arms, as well as how to breathe. Gradually, things began to come together and I was starting to get it. The hard work I put in finally paid off. One day, I was surprised to find that I was swimming! It was a wonderful free feeling like flying. I was floating and it was like all my fears just slowly disappeared. Now I can swim well and freely in the water. Through this experience, I’ve learned that learning new things often requires persistence and hard work. It’s not always easy, and there will be times when we feel discouraged or doubt our abilities. But with the right support and a positive attitude, we can overcome these challenges and achieve our goals. 词汇激活 行为类 ①取得进步:make progress/make advances ②掌握:master/grasp/learn…by heart ③消失:disappear/fade away 情绪类 ①气馁:feel discouraged/lose heart ②惊讶的:surprised/astonished /amazed 点睛】[高分句型1] Kevin, who seemed to have a gift for swimming, was quickly making progress while I was still struggling with the basics.(运用了who引导非限定性定语从句) [高分句型2] It seemed that no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t master the point.(运用了固定句型It seemed that和no matter how引导让步状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
