Fans will be seeing a purple track (跑道) at the Olympics when athletes (运动员) try to set records at this summer’s Paris Games. The Olympics used to choose red-brick clay color (砖红色). An Olympic track is going purple for the first time.
“The look of the Games includes three colors for all the competition places: blue, green and purple. We decided on this purple track with different tones(色调) : lighter for the track, darker for the service areas, and grey for the turns at the end of the corner,” said Alain Blondel, the sports manager (经理), who added that the choice of the color reminds us of lavender (薰衣草).

It’s a track and it has to be pretty, but above all it’s a stage (舞台) on which the athletes are going to perform. What’s really important is that the colors and the athletes stand out,” said Alain Blondel.
Different colors can lead to different emotions and feelings. For example, red makes people feel excited; blue helps lower stress, while purple has some of the good points of both red and blue, which can encourage athletes to perform at their best and help them bring good results.

Clothes Donation (捐赠) Box
Have you ever put your old clothes into the donation box in your neighborhood? If not, you can do it right now because the clothes donation is becoming a trend (趋势) in Urumqi (乌鲁木齐).
“From time to time, my mother clears out the clothes which I no longer wear. You know, we teenagers are growing fast. I think it’s a good way to help others.” Lin Tao, a junior student says.
“I often pick out some of my clothes which are out of style after going shopping. Then I’ll put them into the donation box.” Miss Li, a pretty young lady says.
“That seems like a good idea. Some clothes in the box are quite new. People can either wear them or use them to make things such as handbags and pencil cases.” Mrs. Wang, an old woman says, “Sometimes I also look through the box for some nice clothes.”
However, there are some problems along with the popularity of clothes donation. Recently, a UTV reporter from Focus on the City has made a survey. Here are the results:
◆The box is full of clothes in a short time. There is no more room for people to give away clothes.
◆Some people sell the clothes in the donation box for making money instead of wearing them.
◆Some communities set the box in unsuitable places, so there are few clothes in it.
◆Many clothes are too old and shabby (破烂的).
“What’s worse.” one of the workers in a community added, “we quite often see people throw rubbish into the box when they pass by. We’ve tried to stop them several times but failed. It has been the most serious problem since we set the box.”
In order to make the donation box work in a useful way, our government is taking action. Clothes donation will be better-organized and it’ll be more convenient for people in need to take the clothes away.

【答案】例文
Dear fellows,
As we all know, China has a long-standing history and is known for colorful culture. Today, it’s my great honor to be here to share a wonderful traditional with you. The name of the story is based on The Ballad of Mulan.
The story happened during Southern and Northern Dynasties. Mulan lived with her family in a little village. One day, the imperial court announced that each family had to send one man to the army. Mulan’s father was too old to fight. So Mulan decided to dressed up as a man. She joined the army and fought for many years. When the war ended, the Emperor offered Mulan a job. But she refused and wished to return home. She put on makeup when she came home. When her former comrades visited her, they just knew she was a woman. I think she was very brave and intelligent.

This purple color, never seen before for an athletics track, has been the result of a long process but it doesn’t have to be just beautiful. “We had to work hard on the colors so that they came out in the best possible tones to highlight (突出) the athletes.
Many athletes in the world will compete on the beautiful purple track at the Paris Olympics from August 1st-11th 2024.
8. Which statement is TRUE according to the first two paragraphs?
A. The track at the Olympics was in green in the past.
B. The new color of the track makes people think of roses.
C. The Paris Olympics includes three colors for all the competition places.

A. People in Paris like purple.
B. It can encourage athletes to try their best.
C. The Olympics used to choose this color for the track.
10. What can we learn from the fourth paragraph?
A. Blue can cause more stress.
B. Red can lead to the same emotion as blue.
C. Purple can help reduce stress and make people excited.
11. What is the passage mainly about?

B. Different colors of the Olympics.
