This lesson is from Unit 10 of PEP English Go for it, the second semester of Grade 7. Section B (2a-2c) is the reading part of this unit. The text Birthday Food Around the World talks about birthday food and the culture behind it. Hence, it serves as practice and development of reading skills, such as classifying and grouping information and other reading strategies of using key words to search for information.

When coming to the reading part of this unit, the students will have already mastered the vocabulary required to understand the text. So it won’t be a big challenge for them to learn this lesson. Yet, they are still lack of the using of reading strategies. The most important thing of learning the reading part is never about words or phrases, but the different reading strategies that suit different kinds of texts.
