Truman’s parents were scientists, and he also wanted to be a scientist, so he was determined to be at the top of science subject. With only one week and one assignment to go before the summer holiday, Truman knew that to secure the top spot, his final report had to shine.
The topic was beehives (蜂巢), a subject that Mrs. Lawrence, his teacher, had emphasized the need for a unique perspective to earn an A+.
Truman opened the door to find his four-year-old brother, Bryan, who sat on the floor in the living room with paper tubes all over the floor.
Bryan called, “Truman, help me build a city!”
With a sigh, Truman replied, “I’m sorry, Bryan, but I have to write a report about beehives.” Stepping carefully between the scattered tubes, he went into his room, deep in thought about his project.
Shortly after, Bryan appeared at the door, his eyes sparkling (发亮).“Truman, I know where there’s a beehive,” he said.
Truman followed Bryan to the garage where they found a real beehive hidden among the firewood. Bending down, he removed the beehive from the wood. As Truman examined it closely, he was fascinated by the hexagonal (六边形的) structure of each cell. “Why the hexagon?” he thought.
After dinner, Truman did the dishes. He glanced at the clock. If he didn’t think of something soon, his chance to get an A+ would be slim.
As Truman turned around, he stepped on something. He hadn’t seen Bryan play with paper tubes behind him.
“Get your tubes out of here, Bryan!” Truman said angrily.
Bryan ran into the living room, crying.
Truman sighed and gathered the paper tubes. Suddenly, he found that they were arranged with one in the middle and surrounded by six others. They reminded Truman of the beehive. The center tube formed a hexagon, just like the cells of the hive. Truman tried to use different numbers of tubes to surround the center tube, and then Truman got the new angle. But what else did he need to accompany his report? Maybe a model beehive!

A Move to a New Life
I was shocked when my parents told me we were moving from Baton Rouge, Louisana, to New York. First, I complained about not being able to make new friends and not knowing anything about New York.
My mom said, “You’ll make new friends, and it’s not like you know anything about Baton Rouge anyway.
I protested, “But I don’t want to leave Louisiana. The weather is perfect here!”
My mom shot me a disapproving look and said, “You’ll get used to the weather in New York.”
I remember thinking about running away and joining a circus somewhere, but then I remembered that circus animals smell really bad, and I would miss my parents. So I wandered around the house pick picking up random things, like my baseball and glove, and throwing them into a cardboard box. I felt like a big, heavy rain cloud I was hanging over my head.
Within three days, all the furniture we were taking e taking with us was packed into a moving van (小型货车). Oder things were ready to be sold for nowhere near what we paid for them. Little by little our yard sale decreased until no one even looked at the well-worn coffee table, chewed-up plastic toys, and slightly damaged coffee cups—all of which I had my teeth on at one time or another
The next day was Monday, and we got up early to beat the traffic. I’ll spare you the details of how boring it was to sit in a van and watch each tree as it passed by only to see another tree getting closer until it a so passed by. Halfway there, we stopped at a motel (汽车旅馆) to spend the night. This time, no one could sleep because of the smell coming from the heater in the room. By the time we finally made it to New York, it was the middle of the night, and my head was already drooping (低垂) on to my shoulder.

Sandy and Jane came to see the jobo tree on the hilltop again. Jobos were their favorite fruit, but the tree belonged to a lady who lived in the house by the hill. They heard she was difficult, but that sometimes she would give fruit in return for an errand(差使)
The girls finally gathered their courage to knock on her door. An elderly woman with a fierce look answered, staring down at the girls. “We heard …”said Sandy, her voice shaky, “that you give jobos in payment for running an errand. ”
The lady raised one eyebrow, then went into the kitchen and took two baskets. She pushed them into the girls’ hands. “Go fill these with jobos, and come right back. ”
The girls raced up the hill to the tree and filled the baskets with the ripest jobos. Back at the house, the lady filled a bag with rice and handed it to Sandy. “Take this bag and one basket of jobos to the Brown family. And ask them for the payment, ” the lady added with a tight smile. “If you return without the payment, you won’t get the fruit. ”
The girls struggled all the way with the bag and the basket. When they were there, Mrs. Brown answered the door. Inside on the floor were three little children, each painting something on papers.
Mr. Brown was lying sick in bed. Times were hard.
The girls handed her the food. “This is from the lady with the jobo tree, ” said Sandy.
“She asked for the payment, too. ”Jane said awkwardly.
“The payment! The payment!” The children repeated, waving the paper in their hands happily.
Sandy and Jane looked at each other strangely. With a smile, Mrs. Brown handed Sandy a large sealed(密封的)envelope so full that it was almost starting to break open. The girls said goodbye and left quickly. “I wonder, ” Sandy murmured, “whether Mrs. Brown can afford to pay for that food. ”

I grew up knowing I was different, and I hated it.
I was born with a cleft palate(腭裂), and when I started to go to school, my classmates, who were constantly teasing me, made it clear to me how I looked to others: a little girl with a misshapen lip. I
couldn't even blow up a balloon without holding my nose.
When schoolmates asked, “What happened to your lip? ”, I would tell them that I'd fallen as a baby and cut it on a piece of glass. Somehow it seemed more acceptable to have suffered an accident than to have been born different. By the age of seven I was convinced that no one outside my own family could ever like me.
And then I entered the second grade, and Mrs. Leonard's class. She was pretty and fragrant, with shining brown hair and warm, dark eyes that smiled even on the rare occasions when her mouth didn't.
Everyone adored her. But no one came to love her more than I did for a special reason.
The time came for the annual hearing tests” iven at our school. I was barely able to hear anything out of one ear, and was not about to reveal yet another problem that would single me out as different. So I cheated. I had learned to watch the other children and raise my hand when they did during group testing. The whisper test”, however, required a different trick. Each child would go to the door of the classroom and close one ear with a finger. Then the teacher would whisper something which the child would repeat. The same thing was done for the other ear. I had discovered that nobody checked to see how tightly the untested ear was being covered, so I merely pretended to block mine.
As usual, I was the last, and all through the testing I wondered what Mrs. Leonard might say to me.
My turn came. I turned my bad ear to her, plugging up the other with my finger, and then gently backed my finger out enough to be able to hear. I waited, and then came the words that changed my life forever.

Desperately as they tried, they were also aware Joe might not be alive. “But we won’t give up easily. we must find him, even if...” the couple later told the reporter.

47.One possible version:
Thinking about this, Truman rushed into the living room, his heart pounding. He threw his arms around his brother, his voice trembling with sincerity, “Bryan, I’m deeply sorry that I lost my temper. I never intended to hurt you. And from the bottom of my heart, I thank you.” He continued to tell his brother that these tubes had given him ideas, helping him find his perspective. Therefore, he can finally complete the report! “But,” Truman said, “I have to build a model beehive with these tubes. Can you help me?” “Well,” Bryan said hesitantly, with tears on his face. “You can help me glue them,” Truman offered.
Bryan smiled and began picking out his tubes. Truman opened the drawer near the TV, grabbed a bottle of glue, and showed his brother how to stick the paper tubes. Working together, they made a model beehive. As they compared their creation to the real beehive in the garage, they agreed it was flawless. With his newfound focus, Truman completed his report well ahead of time, introducing a fresh perspective that fascinated his classmates. Mrs. Lawrence awarded him an A+ and praised his efforts in front of the entire class, leaving Truman feeling proud.

47.When I woke up, I didn’t find a smog-filled city as expected. Instead, I was met with a clear sky and the soft sounds of morning in New York. The city seemed to be waking up with a gentle hum, not the chaotic rush I had imagined. I could see people walking their dogs, joggers in the park, and the first light of day reflecting off the windows of tall buildings. It was a peaceful start to what I had feared would be a daunting day.
As I got used to this new setting, I realized that I didn’t have to be afraid of change. The city, with its energy and diversity, offered endless opportunities to explore and grow. I began to make friends with classmates who came from different backgrounds, each bringing something unique to our conversations. The change that once seemed so daunting now felt like a chance to broaden my horizons. I started to enjoy the new experiences, from trying different foods to visiting places I had only read about. New York was teaching me to embrace change, and I was learning to love it.

Worried, the two girls discussed what was in the envelope as they walked back. Tapping her chin, Sandy murmured, “If it’s money, that’s a great deal! If it’s not, what could it be?” Jane, lost in thought, didn’t reply at once. She placed her palms on envelope, reflected on the family and suddenly she claimed, “Paintings! It must be the girls’ paintings! After she explained to Sandy, they arrived at the old lady’s. Awkwardly, Jane handed the lady the envelope with trembling hands.
The lady opened the envelope, took out a pile of papers and smiled. On the papers were colorful drawings from the children. At this scene, Sandy and Jane looked at each other and smiled. Then, the girls gained their payment- a full basket of ripe jobos. For them, it turned out that their errand not only gained them their favorite fruit, but also a sweet taste of getting payment by their hard work. When they took a bite, the juice was as sweet as the feeling inside their heart.

Mrs. Leonard, the pretty, fragrant teacher I adored, said softly, “I wish you were my little girl. ”I was completely astonished by what I heard. Tears welled up in my eyes and trickled down my cheeks. I couldn’t believe that someone as wonderful as Mrs. Leonard would actually say that to me. She didn’t treat me as if I were different, and with her words, she made me forget who I was. In that moment, all my insecurities and fears disappeared, replaced by a feeling of being truly loved and accepted.
From that day on, I had a newfound confidence. I walked tall and proud, with my head held high. I no longer felt like an outcast because of my cleft palate. P1: However, the search didn't proceed smoothly. All those huge leafy trees in the dense forest formed a vision obstacle, making it almost impossible to see clearly from the sky. Jodeen then made a decision: lowering the helicopter to a dangerous height, which might cause the helicopter to run into those tree tops. But she had no time to think that much; all that was in her mind was to find Joe soon. Jodeen steered her helicopter carefully through the dense forest, focusing on the ground underneath. Then, suddenly she saw what she had been looking for —a splash of red among the trees directly beneath, just like in her dream! “There he is!” she called excitedly over the intercom, “I've got the car here!” Then Jodeen spotted a suitable field nearby. Hardly had Jodeen landed when she jumped out. From the distance, Jodeen noticed there was a figure in the car.
P2:Jodeen dashed towards the car immediately. --After steeling herself for the worst, Jodee noticed that Joe's arm was moving back and forth in a faint wave. Joe was alive! “I've finally found you. ”cried Jodeen excitedly. Joe groaned as if trying to respond. After a quick glance, Jodeen realized Joe was very close to death. Jodeen yelled over the intercom, “He's alive! We need an ambulance! “As she called for help, her first thought was---his family would be so happy! In fact, it wasn't only Joe's family who celebrated the news. When the media announced Joe had been found alive, there was a collective sigh of relief. After several months' recovery, Joe received an interview, when he owed his survival to the determination and persistence of his parents and Jodeen “If they had harbored any doubts about my survival, I might have vanished in the dense forest!”
