[山东济南2024高一期末] Everywhere and in every given time, children spend their days on simple but interesting games. One such game which has passed the test of time, becoming one of the oldest forms of child’s play ever known, is hoop rolling.
Hoop rolling is both a child’s game and a sport. A large hoop is rolled along the ground, generally by means of an object held by the player to keep it rolling. The aim of the game is to keep the hoop upright for as long periods of time as possible. First, the left hand supports the hoop; the right hand holds the long handle of the hook (钩). And then keep the balance of the hoop with the hook. Push the hoop to the ground, keep it rolling steadily and keep the hoop from falling. In the team competition, it is mainly about who is faster, and how far to roll.

Hoop rolling has a very long history and it has been recorded since ancient times in Africa, Asia and Europe. In Asia, the earliest records date from ancient China, and in Europe from ancient Greece. The ancient Greeks welcomed hoop rolling as a beneficial exercise for those not very strong. Besides, the game was also a common pastime of African village children.
Hoop rolling serves as evidence of everyday life about the long-gone civilisation. Every year at Wellesley College, the hoop rolling competition started as an activity once held on its May Day celebration. Now it gradually becomes part of the graduation ceremony. Students celebrate by dressing up in children’s clothing and playing games. The child’s play popular in ancient times helps them escape from real-world worries.
The long history of the game shows that there indeed are inventions that are timeless. The human ability to make himself and others happy has been present since the beginning of civilisation, and will be present forever.

[安徽芜湖一中2024高一期中] It’s OK to run when it’s cold outside. But is it OK to run when you have a cold? Many runners find the activity addictive. Running releases endorphins (内啡肽) into the brain, which are responsible for mood changes. The harder you run, the more endorphins released, and the happier you are. Some studies show this endorphin rush allows people to continue running even when injured or sick.
And that brings us to the point of this article—why people continue their running even when they’re sick. Most of us curl up in bed with some chicken soup and the remote control when we’re under the weather. But runners often hit the road. Are they helping or hurting themselves by jogging with a cold?
The best way to decide whether you should exercise is to employ what doctors call the “neck check”. Feel free to go running if your cold is “above the neck”. Doctors advise against proceeding with your exercise if your symptoms (症状) are “below the neck”.

Some people think that running in cold temperatures will actually make them sick. But this isn’t really true. You can’t freeze your lungs or windpipe (气管). Your body heats the air you breathe. When the air is particularly cold, you may feel a burning sensation in your chest as you breathe. If that’s the case, try covering your mouth with a scarf or wearing a ski mask. That’ll help heat up the air before you breathe it in.
Keep in mind, if you have an infection (感染) in your chest or throat, running outside can indeed make things worse. But if you have a simple head cold, it would be fine to take that run, even if it’s cold outside.

Exercise and fitness are important for everyone, no matter how good at sport you are. 2. .
However, some people feel that it’s important that sport should have winners and that learning to lose is just as important as learning how to win. 3. . Particularly, on a sports day when this is your chance to really prove yourself!
4. . According to a 2017 survey by Families Online, 82% of parents say they prefer “traditional” competitive sports days. Many adults feel that children can learn valuable lessons in both winning and losing. It’s also an opportunity for some children to show off their physical and sporting skills.

These two words can inspire both joy and fear in the hearts of students everywhere. For others, it might feel like having to take part in something they aren’t good at.
They hope that by making sports days less competitive, children of all abilities will be encouraged to take part without fear of losing. Exercise and fitness are important for everyone, no matter how good at sport you are.

3.___
A
We want to know your ideas.
