If our time is our most valuable thing, maybe we should be surprised how willingly we waste it.
I’ve read when smokers give up the habit, their lungs (肺) begin to repair themselves. So could it be true that our brains are boring by hours of phone use?
One day, something in me touched me and I decided to stop my phone addiction (上瘾) habit to live my life fully.
Of course, a complete change was impossible because the phone was part of our daily life. My new rules allowed for basic uses such as texting, calling, checking the news and making planned searches. Also, online shopping and social media (媒体) use should be limited. But my No. 1 rule was simple: Do not pick up the phone as a reflex (反射动作) to kill boredom.
Reducing my screen time has caused a lot, which is quite interesting. Just a few days after giving up the habit, I’ve read two books and I’ve had more creative ideas for writing projects in the last week than I had in the last year. More interestingly, I’ve also had more active communication with someone I don’t know, whether it’s giving out a praise, laughing at something funny, or taking an extra moment to hold open a door.
We’ve given the little computers in our hands far more of our time and attention than they should. They’ve become crutches (拐杖), giving us excuses. But the funny thing is, when we put them down, we’ll fill our time in a wise way.
And we may just discover a new enjoyment of old pleasures or new ones, which makes our brains fresh and new instead of being weak in ways we’d almost forgotten.

“I wish I had straight hair”, “I’d like to be taller”. At times, we all want to look a bit more like someone else. However, the truth is that no two people in the world are exactly the same—and that’s a good thing. Accepting and feeling good about our bodies is really important because you are more than how you look.
Body confidence is when we accept and behave kindly towards our body. That includes our size and shape, skin color, appearance and any physical (身体的) disabilities.
If you feel positively (积极地) about your body, you are more likely to take care of it. Research has even shown that you are more likely to take part in activities and perform well in school. However, feeling worried about your body could make you do less well at school and even feel down. If you’re spending a lot of time trying to achieve the “perfect” appearance, you will have less time to spend with friends and to make important memories.
To develop a positive body image (形象), try not to talk bad about your own body and other people’s bodies. Try not to pay much attention to appearance. Instead, think about what your body does for you. Treat your body well by eating different kinds of foods, exercising to feel good. And getting plenty of sleep.
Title: Be More Body Confident
Remember that everyone is 16 and you are more than how you look.
What is body confidence?
Accepting and feeling good about your body 17 your size, shape, skin color, and so on.
Why does it 18 ?
• It makes you take care of your body and perform well in school.
• You may do less well and even feel down 19 body confidence.
• The cost of trying to achieve the “perfect” appearance is high.
How can you be body confident?
• Talk positively about your body and others’ bodies.
• Pay 20 attention to what your body does for you than appearance.
• Treat your body well with healthy diets, regular exercise and enough sleep.

Choosing a career —something you’re thinking of doing for the rest of your working life —isn’t always easy but equally, it doesn’t have to be the agony (苦恼) that some people make it. Here are our tips to help you make up your mind.
Don’t let other people tell you what to do!
There are always people who want you to become a lawyer, or work in banking, or be a teacher. Listen to them, but remember it’s your life and it’s your decision, so be sure that you’re the one who makes that decision!
Consider what you think you're good at.
It’s true that things like salary (薪水) are important, but you should also consider other aspects when choosing a career. Follow your heart and your personality —if you’re not very outgoing, don’t go for a sales job, even if the pay’s good. In the same way, if you don’t like work that needs lots of attention to detail, think long and hard before you decide to do something like engineering.
Your first job isn’t forever.
Some lucky people get it right first time — they choose a job, find they love it and stick at it. But it isn’t always like that, so remember —you’re allowed to change your mind! Certainly, it’s no good worrying for years: maybe you’ve got three or four possible things you’d like to do, so choose and try one — and if you don’t like it, try another one.
Do something of value.
Some people choose their career simply because they think they’ll make huge amounts of money. OK, if that’s what you want. But generally, people get more satisfaction out of their career if they feel they are doing something of value to others. It doesn’t have to be charity work—it could be a job that helps other people, like being a child-minder. Just don’t forget that job satisfaction isn’t only about money.
Title: How to choose a career
21
Possible Reasons
Making your own 22
•Just 23 when other people tell you what to do.
•Don’t 24 that it is your life and it is you who make the decision.
Considering your advantages (优势)
•Although the salary for a position is important, it isn’t the 25 thing you should consider when choosing a career.
•It’s important to 26 your heart and personality, especially your interest and your ability.
Allowing changing your mind
•It’s 27 for some people to get a right career first time
•You are allowed to change your mind about your 28 again and again at any time in your life.
Doing something 29
•Doing jobs that will get high salary is OK, but doing jobs that help 30 can bring more career satisfaction.

On the other hand, small handwriting may mean that you’re shy and careful, and always pay attention to-details. Medium-sized handwriting shows that it is not hard for you to get used to a new environment.
Spacing between words
Do you leave a large space between your words when you write? According to a study, the distance between two words can show how close or how far you feel towards others. If you write with wide spacing between your words, it may mean that you enjoy your freedom. On the other hand, people leaving narrow spacing between words may like staying with others.
Slant (倾斜) of the words
Did you know that the slant in your handwriting can tell how you treat people and things around you? Slanting to the right means you welcome or accept new ideas easily. And you think of your friends and family are more important than anything else. While slanting to the left may show that you think deeply about your own thoughts, feelings or behaviors. And you are likely to work behind the scenes better. If you write without slanting at all, you may be practical.

Many teenagers have hobbies. But sometimes these can have a bad effect on their schoolwork, and parents might worry about their success at school. Teenagers often think they should be allowed to practice their hobbies as much as they want.
Liu Yu, a fifteen-year-old boy from Shandong, is a running star. He can run so fast that he is the top runner on the school team. As a result, he has always wanted to be a professional runner when he grows up. However, his parents won’t allow him to train so much. “Of course we want to see him achieve his dreams,” says Mr. Liu. “And we know how much he loves running. My wife and I have supported every one of his races. But we think our son needs to think about other possible jobs. He’s getting older now, so he needs to think about what will happen if he doesn’t end up as a professional runner.”
Liu Yu doesn’t really agree. “Well, I think I should be allowed to decide for myself,” he says. “My parents have always taught me how important it is to work hard at school and enter university. I understand this, but I’m serious about running. It’s the only thing I’ve ever wanted to do.”
His parents believe that Liu Yu should study hard in the evenings so they don’t allow him to practice running at night. (23-24九年级上·江苏无锡·期末)When my friend first suggested we should join the new Tai Chi Club at school, I hesitated (犹豫). I always believed tai chi was for old people.
The first few tai chi classes were fun and easy, and the moves really made me interested. But after that, I found myself bored from doing the same moves over and over again. Luckily, my coach taught me how to relax myself and focus (关注) on peace of mind while doing it. With these in mind, I found my balance slowly improved and I was able to do more difficult moves. My love for tai chi returned stronger than ever.
In time, I began to look into the Chinese culture behind tai chi. I discovered that playing tai chi is to keep the balance of yin and yang in the body through opposite movements: forwards and backwards, up and down, breathing in and breathing out. Finally, tai chi brings about body balance and mind peace.
After taking tai chi classes, however, I had to say that I had been wrong about tai chi. It was amazing! A year of practising tai chi has had a good influence on my everyday life. I sleep better at night, and I am more lively during the day. I’m sure I will continue to practise tai chi.
