Cities such as Shanghai, Rotterdam and Paris are using the roofs (房顶) of office blocks, apartments and warehouses to make vegetable farms and gardens. Green vegetables, soft fruits and salad crops are grown by urban (城市的) farming companies. Besides, people can rent (租用) a piece of land to grow their own food and they are also encouraged to make gardens on their roofs.
It is not just roofs that are being used for growing food. Old factories and empty warehouses have been changed to provide enough space for a system known as “vertical farming”. Plants are grown inside without earth. They receive plenty of light, water and nutrients (营养物). This means that less water and less space are needed than for growing the same crops outside on traditional farms. What’s more, because the growing conditions are carefully controlled, pesticides are not necessary.
Growing food in the city for the city is good for the environment. Less food is wasted because produce is sent quickly to customers. Transport costs and pollution are also cut.
Urban farming is not a new idea. Over 500 years ago, one of the largest cities in the world at the time was Tenochtitlan (modern-day Mexico City). There were more than 250, 000 people living there. To feed the city, farmers grew crops on human-made islands called chinampas.
Farming and gardening help people in the city to reconnect with food production. They also help people to value fresh food and healthy eating. Research suggests that trees and plants are good for people’s well-being and mental health. It seems that people who live near plants and nature are healthier and happier.
50. What’s special about “vertical farming” ?
A. It’s hard to prepare for it. B. It’s a green way of farming. C. It costs much to grow farm produce.

53. What is the main purpose of the text?

C. To tell us the disadvantages of urban farming.

Have you ever heard of the saying “Don’t judge a book by its cover”? Well, in Chinese, we often say “Don’t judge people by their looks”.
Imagine you meet someone new at school. They might look different from you in hair, clothes, or looks. It’s important not to make any judgment about them just because of how they look.
Sometimes, people make a mistake by judging others by their looks. They might think someone is mean (刻薄的) or unfriendly just because they have a serious face or wear unusual clothes. But !
In reality, people are like books with many, many pages. In order to understand them, we need to read many pages. That means talking with them, learning about their interests and personalities and getting to know them.
Think about your best friends. When you met them for the first time, you might not have known they would become your best friends. But as you spent time with them and got to know them, you realized how amazing they were.
Don’t judge people by their looks, and open our heart to new people in our lives. We start to understand and treasure the differences between us, like different cultures, different backgrounds, and different ways of thinking.
So, let’s keep an open mind and be nice to everyone we meet. Let’s treat others with kindness and fairness, no matter how they look. When we do so, we make a big difference to the world, and we make a world where everyone feels important and accepted. After all, the most amazing things are hidden. They are in each one of us!
54. How does the writer begin the text?
A. By telling a story. B. By asking a question. C. By sending a message.
55. Which of the following can be put in the “ ” in Paragraph 3?
A. most of the time, seeing is believing B. most of the time, we can’t trust our ears C. sometimes, what the eye meets isn’t the truth
56. The writer talks about our best friends to ________.
A. show how to make friends with others B. explain friends are important in our lives C. explain that it takes time to know about someone
57. What is the best title for the text?
A. Accept Others’ Opinions B. Treat Everyone Seriously C. Know Someone in Every Way

阅读下面短文,根据其内容填空和回答问题。(1至4题每题答案不超过3个单词,5题须用完整句子回答)
The history of prepared food can go back to ancient times when early humans used methods like drying, smoking, and salting to keep food, so that they could get something to eat during food shortage. However, China’s prepared food industry has a late start and has gone through a three-stage development process.
In Stage 1, which began around 2000, prepared food mainly appeared in some restaurants to meet the needs of busy city life and changing dietary patterns. Over time, it could be found everywhere and entered people’s daily lives.
Stage 2 known as the standstill period, lasted until 2013. During this period, the prepared food industry in China went through slow growth because the food processing technology did not have any great improvements.
Stage 3, marked a period of rapid growth that started in 2014 with the development of the take-out industry, which furthered the development of prepared food. Prepared food has become a convenient solution to the fast-paced nature of modern life, where many people have no time and cooking skills to prepare meals. Changes in people’s lifestyles have further sped up this direction. The rise of the take-out industry has created a fast increase in the need for convenience food, driving the growth of the prepared food market.
While the rapid growth of the precooked food market in China has provided convenient choices for busy lifestyles, offering different kinds of food from frozen ready-to-eat meals to canned products, worries still stay regarding the nutritional (营养的) quality of precooked food, health standards, and the environmental influence of packing materials, especially when it comes to introducing prepared food into schools. Achieving a balance among these considerations, while keeping the convenience, taste, and safety of the food, is important for the future of the precooked food industry.

Para.4 Stage 3: The period of rapid growth
____66____ of the rapid growth:
·The development of the take-out industry caused big growth in prepared food.
·People don’t have time or cooking skills.
·Changes of lifestyle have made it even more usual.
·People’s need for convenience food.

It’s important to find a good balance among the nutritional quality, health standards and the environmental influence, and keep the convenience, taste, and safety.

Stage 2, known as the standstill period, lasted until 2013.

·The development of the take-out industry caused big growth in prepared food.

Every weekend, we met and drew pictures together. We shared our works and ideas. Gradually, I became no longer shy and made some friends. At the same time, my drawing skills improved a lot.
In my opinion, joining clubs is a good way to make friends quickly because we can meet people who have the same hobby as us. What’s more, we can improve our skills.
