Fashion Island Fashion Island is a shoppers’ paradise, featuring more than 100 brand-name stores, including large chain stores like Macy’s and Neiman Marcus. It also shelters a variety of local and upscale dining options, a Whole Foods Market and a movie theater. Children can enjoy playing with the little games scattered around the area while parents are shopping. Newport Beach Whale Watching Newport Beach is one of the country’s best whale watching destinations. In winter and early spring, you’ll catch sight of gray whales migrating south to give birth to their calves; they’ll turn around and head north around April or May. In summer and fall, blue whales are often found swimming in the waters surrounding Newport Beach. 1. What’s an advantage of the Wedge? A. It offers free swimming lessons. B. It features fun activities for children. C. It is popular for family vacations. D. It is a great beach to enjoy surfing. 2. Which is suitable for those who want to taste the local specialties? A. In winter and early spring. D. In summer and fall. D 2. B 3. 根据The Wedge中的“Whether you’re a passionate surfer, or you simply want to relax and watch the daring wave runners and body surfers, the Wedge is the perfect place to spend your afternoon. The Wedge has some of the largest waves in Southern California, (无论你是一个充满激情的冲浪者,还是你只是想放松一下,观看大胆的波浪跑者和身体冲浪者,Wedge都是度过下午的完美场所。这里有南加州最大的波浪之一)”可知,Wedge海滩海浪大,并且适合任何来冲浪的人。由此可知,Wedge是适合冲浪的很好的海滩。故选D项。 【2题详解】 细节理解题。根据Fashion中的“It also shelters a variety of local and upscale dining options, a Whole Foods Market and a movie theater.(它还提供各种当地和高档餐饮选择,一个全食超市和一个电影院)”可知,去Fashion Island可以品尝到当地的特色菜。 根据Newport Beach Whale Watching中的“In winter and early spring, you'll catch sight of gray whales migrating south to give birth to their calves; they'll turn around and head north around April or May.(在冬天和早春,你会看到灰鲸向南迁徙,生下它们的幼崽;它们会在4月或5月左右转身北上)”可知,游客们能够在四月或五月左右看到灰鲸和它们的幼崽。故选A项。 B Mike Goldberg spent his early career working in financial services, putting in long hours for 12 years. He said, “I was just chasing money. It just wasn’t true to my core.” In 1996, Goldberg left his job and his home in Los Angeles to follow his passion for underwater diving. As a keen diver, Goldberg developed a strong appreciation for the coral reefs and their significant role in the marine ecosystem. They not only support all kinds of species, but they protect coastal areas, and millions of people depend on them for food and jobs. Over the last two decades, he has seen coral reefs in the Florida Keys go from colorful and full of life to endangered today. Now, many of the reefs in the area cannot recover naturally on their own and require human intervention to survive. Goldberg knew he needed to do something to help and wanted to find a way to get others involved. “I know more about the history of and what’s happening now to the reefs than most people,” he said, “I'm not a scientist, but that puts me in a unique position to communicate in layman’s terms about what's going on.” He realized that recreational divers could be a great workforce to help turn around the damage and restore the reefs. Around the same time, he met Dr. Kylie Smith. They spent hours at Goldberg’s dive shop discussing the health of the reefs. In 2019, they teamed up to co-found LCARE, with the goal of empowering divers to help restore the area’s reefs, ensuring their survival for future generations. LCARE organizes special coral restoration dives for local and out-of-town participants. They spend the day learning about the importance of coral reefs and how to help rebuild them, and then they go on dives to transplant coral grown in a local nursery. So far, the organization has transplanted more than 10, 000 corals and educated more than 2, 000 people. The LCARE team monitors and maintains all of the transplanted corals, making sure they’re thriving. 4. Why did Goldberg leave his job and home in Los Angeles? A. To pursue his passion. B. To protect coral reefs. C. To learn the role of corals. D. To start a new career. 5. What can we learn from Goldberg’s words in paragraph 3? A. Most people are ignorant of coral reefs. B. He had an advantage in getting others involved. C. Scientists can communicate using scientific terms. D. He succeeded in helping many reefs recover naturally. 6. What do we know about LCARE? A. Its members are mainly local divers. B. It was founded by Dr. Kylie Smith. C. It is to ensure the survival of sealife. D. It has helped restore the coral reefs. 7. Which of the following best describes Goldberg? A. Kindhearted and humorous. B. Creative and honest. C. Determined and responsible. D. Brave and generous. A 5. B 6. D 7. 由文章第二段“In 1996, Goldberg left his job and his home in Los Angeles to follow his passion for underwater diving. (1996年,Goldberg离开了洛杉矶的工作和家,追随他对水下潜水的激情。)”可知,Goldberg离开了他在洛杉矶的工作和家,去追求他对水下潜水的激情。故选A项。 由文章第三段“Goldberg knew he needed to do something to help and wanted to find a way to get others involved.(Goldberg知道他需要做些什么来帮助别人,并想找到一种让其他人参与进来的方法。)”和“‘I know more about the history of and what’s happening now to the reefs than most people,’ he said,‘I’m not a scientist, but that puts me in a unique position to communicate in layman’s terms about what’s going on.’(‘我比大多数人更了解珊瑚礁的历史和现在发生的事情,’他说,‘我不是科学家,但这使我处于一个独特的位置,可以用外行人的语言来交流正在发生的事情。’)” 由文章第四段“In 2019, they teamed up to co-found LCARE, with the goal of empowering divers to help restore the area’s reefs, ensuring their survival for future generations.(2019年,他们合作共同创建了LCARE,目的是让潜水员能够帮助恢复该地区的珊瑚礁,确保它们为子孙后代生存。)”以及最后一段“So far, the organization has transplanted more than 10, 000 corals and educated more than 2, 000 people. The LCARE team monitors and maintains all of the transplanted corals, making sure they’re thriving.( 到目前为止,该组织已经移植了1万多个珊瑚,并教育了2000多人。LCARE团队监控并维护所有移植的珊瑚,确保它们茁壮成长)”可知,LCARE已经帮助恢复了珊瑚礁。故选D项。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。由文章第三段“Goldberg knew he needed to do something to help and wanted to find a way to get others involved. “I know more about the history of and what’s happening now to the reefs than most people,” he said, “I'm not a scientist, but that puts me in a unique position to communicate in layman’s terms about what's going on.”(戈德堡知道他需要做些什么来帮助别人,并想找到一种方法让其他人参与进来。“我比大多数人更了解珊瑚礁的历史和现在发生的事情,”他说,“我不是科学家,但这让我处在一个独特的位置,可以用外行人的语言来交流发生的事情。”)”可以看出,Goldberg对于让大家认识到珊瑚礁的状况是坚定的,有决心的,再由倒数第二段“They spent hours at Goldberg’s dive shop discussing the health of the reefs. In 2019, they teamed up to co-found LCARE, with the goal of empowering divers to help restore the area’s reefs, ensuring their survival for future generations.(他们花了几个小时在戈德堡的潜水店讨论珊瑚礁的健康状况。2019年,他们合作成立了LCARE,目标是让潜水员帮助恢复该地区的珊瑚礁,确保后代的生存)”可以看出,他对于保护珊瑚礁这项任务又是负责任的。故选C项。 C Artificial intelligence (AI) is generating excitement in the field of health care. From robot surgeons to the ability to chat to a medical AI with a human face, opportunities are enough. There is already evidence that AI systems can enhance diagnostic (诊断的) accuracy and disease tracking, improve the prediction of patients’ outcomes and suggest better treatments. It may already be speeding the time it takes for new drugs to reach clinical trials. However, progress has been slow and the results have often been mediocre. AI systems learn by processing huge volumes of data, which are under strict control by governments because patients want better and more personalized care but patients also want their medical privacy protected. Finding secure ways to allow health data to move more freely would help. Another problem is managing and regulating these innovations. In many countries, the governance of AI in health, as with other areas, is struggling to keep up with the rapid pace of innovation. Regulatory authorities may be slow to approve new AI tools or may lack capacity and expertise Governments need to equip regulators to assess new AI tools. The final problem involves motivations. Many private health systems are set up to reward the volume of work. They have little reason to adopt technologies that cut the number of visits, tests or procedures. And even public health systems may lack motivations to adopt technologies that reduce costs rather than improve outcomes, perhaps because saving money may lead to a smaller budget next year. Unless governments can change these motivations, AI’s wide application will be castles in the air. Much of the burden for boosting AI in health care falls on governments and regulators. However, companies have a part to play, too. Insurers have already used AI tools to deny healthcare unfairly; firms have mis-sold or overstated the abilities of health AI; algorithms have made mistakes. Firms have a duty to ensure that their products are safe and reliable and that humans, however imperfect, remain in control. 8. What does the underlined word “mediocre” mean in Paragraph 1? A. Unsatisfactory. B. Exciting. C. Surprising. D. Destructive. 9. Why does the government control data strictly? A. AI’s learning ability is out of control. B. AI’s innovation develops at a rapid pace. C. The medical privacy might be under attack. D. Patients want better and more personalized care 10. In paragraph 5, what leads to public health systems refusing AI? A. A smaller budget next year. B. Increased costs of AI’s innovation. C. Failing to offer effective treatment. D. Decreasing visits, tests or procedures. 11. What is the best title for the passage? A. Boosting AI in health care. B. AI doctors? Not so optimistic. C. Applications of AI in health systems. D. Solutions to AI problems in health care. A 9. C 10. A 11. 由文章第二段“It may already be speeding the time it takes for new drugs to reach clinical trials. However, progress has been slow and the results have often been mediocre.(它可能已经在加快新药进入临床试验的时间。然而,进展缓慢,结果往往 。)”可知,前一句讲“进展缓慢”,而这一句也应承上,表示“结果不理想或令人满意”,所以猜测mediocre表“不令人满意的”意思。故选A项。 由文章第三段“AI systems learn by processing huge volumes of data, which are under strict control by governments because patients want better and more personalized care but patients also want their medical privacy protected. (人工智能系统通过处理大量数据进行学习,这些数据受到政府的严格控制,因为患者想要更好、更个性化的护理,但患者也希望自己的医疗隐私得到保护。)”可知,政府应该严格控制数据,因为医疗隐私可能会受到攻击。故选C项。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。由文章第五段“And even public health systems may lack motivations to adopt technologies that reduce costs rather than improve outcomes, perhaps because saving money may lead to a smaller budget next year. (即使是公共卫生系统也可能缺乏采用降低成本而不是改善结果的技术的动机,也许是因为节省资金可能会导致明年的预算减少。)”可知,明年预算减少的可能导致公共卫生系统拒绝人工智能。故选A项。 由文章第二段“There is already evidence that AI systems can enhance diagnostic (诊断的) accuracy and disease tracking, improve the prediction of patients’ outcomes and suggest better treatments. It may already be speeding the time it takes for new drugs to reach clinical trials. However, progress has been slow and the results have often been mediocre.(已经有证据表明,人工智能系统可以提高诊断准确性和疾病跟踪,改善对患者预后的预测,并提出更好的治疗建议。它可能已经在加快新药进入临床试验的时间。然而,进展缓慢,结果往往平平。)”以及上下文可知,文章主要讲述人工智能在医疗保健领域应用所面临的一些问题。所以B项AI doctors? Not so optimistic.(AI医生? D According to the standard, my husband’s body mass index (BMI身体质量指数) is too high. Yet he is the fittest person I know—an athlete carrying plenty of muscle and very little fat. There lies the problem with BMI. A recent study showed how imprecise BMI can be. Yftach Gepner, a professor at Tel Aviv University, looked at data about 3, 000 Israeli men and women. About one third of those with normal BMI were found to be obese (肥胖的) when their actual body fat was measured. And a third of those who were overweight by their BMI had actually normal amounts of body fat. Not only does BMI fail to distinguish between muscle and fat, but it says nothing about where fat sits in your body. With fat, as with real estate (房地产) , location matters. Abdominal fat (腹部脂肪) carries higher risk, as does fat around vital organs. A 2018 study looked at MRI scans (磁共振成像扫描) —the gold standard for body-composition research—collected by the U. K. Biobank. The results showed that people with fat concentrated in their abdomen had higher risk of heart disease than people with the same BMI and of the same age whose fat was spread through other parts of their body. A further problem is that BMI is based on height and weight tables using data from Non-Hispanic white people, who usually have higher body fat than Hispanic white people with the same BMI. Yet researchers now know that race, sex and age affect body composition and health risks differently. For instance, Black people tend to have greater muscle mass and thus may not be considered as obese on the basis of BMI. The opposite is true for Asians, who tend to have more body fat at lower BMIs, so their actual disease risks may be missed. Although BMI has value for evaluating obesity, better methods exist for individuals. Bioelectrical impedance analysis, using electric signals to distinguish fat from muscle, is becoming more common in medical offices. DEXA scans, a type of X-ray imaging, tend to be more efficient yet more costly. With so many options available, no one, including health-care workers, should give BMI too much weight. 12. Why does the author present her husband’s example? A. To prove the accuracy of BMI. B. To present the problems of BMI. C. To introduce the popularity of BMI. D. To raise doubts about the recent study. 13. What does the underlined sentence “With fat, as with real estate, location matters” suggest in Paragraph 3? A. With higher fat comes higher risk. B. BMI can tell where fat is located. C. Abdominal fat carries the highest risk. D. Where the fat sits is related to health risks. 14. For those with the same BMI, who might have the highest risk of diseases? A. Hispanic white people. B. Asians. C. Non-Hispanic white people. D. Black people. 15. What is the author’s attitude towards BMI? A. Concerned. B. Approving. C. Objective. D. Indifferent. B 13. D 14. B 15. 由文章第一段“According to the standard, my husband’s body mass index (BMI身体质量指数) is too high. Yet he is the fittest person I know—an athlete carrying plenty of muscle and very little fat. There lies the problem with BMI.(按照标准,我丈夫的体重指数太高了。然而,他是我所认识的最健康的人——一个肌肉发达、脂肪很少的运动员。BMI存在问题)”可知,作者以她丈夫的例子来说明BMI存在问题。故选B项。 【13题详解】 词句猜测题。由文章第三段“Abdominal fat (腹部脂肪) carries higher risk, as does fat around vital organs. A 2018 study looked at MRI scans (磁共振成像扫描) —the gold standard for body-composition research—collected by the U. K. Biobank. The results showed that people with fat concentrated in their abdomen had higher risk of heart disease than people with the same BMI and of the same age whose fat was spread through other parts of their body.(腹部脂肪和重要器官周围的脂肪风险更高。 由文章第四段“The opposite is true for Asians, who tend to have more body fat at lower BMIs, so their actual disease risks may be missed.(亚洲人的情况正好相反,他们往往在BMI较低时体内脂肪较多,因此可能会错过他们实际的疾病风险)”可推测,对于那些BMI相同的人来说,亚洲人可能患疾病的风险最高。 由文章最后一段“Although BMI has value for evaluating obesity, better methods exist for individuals. Bioelectrical impedance analysis, using electric signals to distinguish fat from muscle, is becoming more common in medical offices. DEXA scans, a type of X-ray imaging, tend to be more efficient yet more costly. With so many options available, no one, including health-care workers, should give BMI too much weight.(尽管BMI对评估肥胖有价值,但对个人来说,有更好的方法。 In daily routines, are there secrets to unlocking good luck and making the universe work in your favour? I was a seventh grade stagehand (舞台管理员) -the only one in an eighth grade production Half a Sixpence. My task was to prepare the scenery for the performance, and race onstage to put and bring back the props when the lights dimmed between scenes. I admired Lisa to this day for a moment that had little to do with the play itself but with an ironing board (熨衣板) . It was the opening night. The auditorium (礼堂) was filled with families and friends. Most of the school was there. Half a Sixpence centers on Arthur Kipps, a draper's assistant who unexpectedly receives a fortune from his father. Ann is his childhood sweetheart, but upper-class Helen falls for him, too-and her mother has designs on Arthur's wealth. Arthur must choose. The climactic scene takes place when Arthur encounters Ann, played by Lisa. As the scene opens, she stands at an ironing board, ironing. The lights dimmed before that scene. I rushed onstage to put the ironing board in place for the following performance. There was a problem. “The ironing board won't stay up! It will fall down!” She whispered to me. She had the iron in one hand and was supporting the ironing board with the other. We tried to fix it, but in vain. The lights were coming up-as were the hairs at the back of my neck. I had to go! I rushed down the steps, abandoning her. In seconds, she would have to stop ironing on the board and exclaim in delight, “Oh, Arthur!” and fly across the stage to where he stood. “So glad it's not me up there!” I thought guiltily. C Artificial intelligence (AI) is generating excitement in the field of health care. In daily routines, are there secrets to unlocking good luck and making the universe work in your favour? Poor Lisa was up there, though, holding the ironing board. Unexpectedly, Lisa performed in a calm and confident manner. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 听力答案1-5 BCABA 6-10 BABAA 11-15 CCABC 16-20 CCBCA 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
