Since the age of three, Chelsie Hill had dreamed of becoming a dancer. That ambition nearly ended one night in 2010. Hill, then a 17-year-old high school senior in Pacific Grove, California, was in a car accident that left her paralyzed from the waist down. For most people, that would have dashed any hope of a dancing career. For Hill, it was the beginning. “I wanted to prove to my community — and to myself — that I was still ‘normal’,” she told Teen Vogue. “Whatever ‘normal’ meant.”
“Normal” for her meant dancing, so Hill did it in her wheelchair right alongside her nondisabled high school dance team. “It definitely took a lot of learning and patience,” Hill told Today.
After graduation, Hill wanted to expand her dance network to include women like her. She met people online who had suffered various injuries but shared her determination, and she invited them to dance with her.
Hoping to affect more people in a larger city, Hill moved to Los Angeles in 2014 and formed a team of dancers with disabilities she calls Rollettes. “I want to break down the stereotype (模式化观念) of wheelchair users and show that dance is dance, whether you’re walking or you’re rolling,” she told CBS News. Dancing on wheels, Rollettes discovered, can be just as fastpaced, artful, and fulfilling as the footbased variety. They’re having fun, and the fun is touching.
Hill has attained what many of us never will: her childhood dream. But Rollettes have helped her find something else just as fulfilling. Every year she holds a dance camp for wheelchair users of all ages and abilities with an eye to helping them find their inner Ginger Rogers or Julianne Hough.
The dancers aren’t the only ones feeling inspired. One woman saw a video of the team competing and commented, “You guys are so awesome! To be in a wheelchair and still be so beautiful makes me know I can be beautiful too! Thank you!”
4. What can we learn about Chelsie Hill?
A. She was born with disability. B. She experienced a car accident in 2014.
C. She had dreamed to be a dancer since childhood. D. Her dancing career stopped when she was 17.
5. How did Chelsie Hill prove herself to be normal?
A. By graduating with honor. B. By dancing in a wheelchair.
C. By refusing to use a wheelchair. D. By starting a high school dance team.
6. Why did Chelsie Hill start Rollettes?
A. To satisfy her own ambition. B. To better understand achievements.
C. To achieve both success and fame. D. To inspire more disabled women to dance.
7. What’s the best title of the passage?
A. Chase Your Dreams — Even in a Wheelchair B. Form a Dance Team — a Big Bonus
C. Become a Dancer — a Challenging Dream D. Dance on Wheels — a New Trend
C
Time and how we experience it have always puzzled us. Physicists have created fascinating theories, but their time is measured by a pendulum (钟摆) and is not psychological time, which leaps with little regard to the clock or calendar. As someone who understood the distinction observed, ''When you sit with a nice girl for two hours it seems like a minute, but when you sit on a hot stove, a minute seems like two hours. ''
Psychologists have long noticed that larger units of time, such as months and years, fly on swifter wings as we age. They also note that the more time is structured with schedules and appointments, the more rapidly it seems to pass. For example, a day at the office flies compared with a day at the beach.
Expectation and familiarity also make time seem to flow more rapidly. Almost all of us have had the experience of driving somewhere we've never been before. Surrounded by unfamiliar scenery, with no real idea of when we’ll arrive, we experience the trip as lasing a long time. But the return trip, although exactly as long, seems to take far less time. The novelty of the outward journey has become routine.
When days become as identical as beads (小珠子)on a string, they mix together, and even months become a single day. To counter this, try to find ways to interrupt the structure of your day-- to stop time, so to speak.
Learning something new is one of the ways to slow the passage of time. One of the reasons the days of our youth seems to be full and long is that these are the days of learning and discovery. For many of us, learning ends when we leave school, but this doesn't have to be.
8. What is the underlined sentence in paragraph 1 used to show?
A. Psychological time is quite puzzling.
B. Time should not be measured by a pendulum.
C. Physical time is different from psychological time
D. Physical theory has nothing to do with the true sense of time
9. Why do units of time fly faster as we grow older?
A. Our sense of time changes.
B. We spend less time at the beach
C. More time is structured and scheduled
D. Time is structured with too many appointments.
10. What does ''Novelty'' in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. excitement B. unfamiliarity C. imagination D. amusement
11. What is the purpose of the passage?
A. To give various explanations about time
B To describe how we experience time physically
C. To show the differences of two kinds of time
D To explain why time flies and how to slow it down

I had just poured my second cup of tea that morning and sat down to read the paper. From somewhere, an inner voice said, “Go see Jeff and bring him the chair to repair. Go right now.” it was such a strong need that I hurriedly dressed and carried a dinning-room chair to his door. Jeff was a neighbor who had lost his wife a while back, and he sometimes did minor repairs for me because he enjoyed working with his hands.
I knocked on his door and waited a while. I was about to walk away when he answered. He looked like he was far away in his thoughts. I felt awkward about upsetting him so early. I greeted him and then asked if he could repair my chair. He invited me inside. We sat in his living room. He looked very sad and not his usual self. He said he had had a stroke recently, and while he was home now, he still needed to attend physical treatment. He had to build his strength back up. I apologized for the chair and told him I would just bring it back home. He said to leave it.
We talked for a while. He said that, before I arrived, he was seriously sad. So, my visit stopped his darkness. I listened to how hard it had been since his wife passed and how much worse it was now since the stroke. The longer we talked, the more I saw his mood lighten.
After I left his home, I went to the supermarket and gathered ingredients. I made him a hot meal I thought he would like. Carefully, I cut up vegetables and prepared stew (炖菜) for him. I believe it was the best stew I ever made. I made homemade biscuits and prepared fresh fruit for dessert. I realize there might have been healthier food, but I thought a hot meal would lift his spirits. I dropped it off for him. He was glad that someone cared. Emotionally, he seemed in a better place.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为100左右;
About a week later, he knocked on my door.

A. To give various explanations about time
B. To describe how we experience time physically
C. To show the differences of two kinds of time
D. To explain why time flies and how to slow it down
C 9. C 10. B 11. D
Physicists have created fascinating theories, but their time is measured by a pendulum and is not psychological time, which leaps with little regard to the clock or calendar(物理学家创造了有趣的理论,但他们的时间是通过钟摆衡量的,而不是心理时间,心理时间和钟表或日历没有关系。) C. Physical time is different from psychological time(物理时间和心理时间是有区别的)符合以上说法,故选C项。
They also note that the more time is structured with schedules and appointments, the more rapidly it seems to pass.(他们还指出,日程表和约会安排的越多,时间似乎过得就越快。) C. More time is structured and scheduled(更过的时间被规划和安排)符合以上说法,故选C项。
Surrounded by unfamiliar scenery, with no real idea of when we’ll arrive, we experience the trip as lasting a long time. The novelty of the outward journey has become routine.(周围是不熟悉的环境,不知道我们何时到达,我们经历的旅行似乎持续了很长时间。 B. unfamiliarity(不熟悉)符合以上说法,故选B项。
Learning something new is one of the ways to slow the passage of time. One of the reasons the days of our youth seems so full and long is that these are the days of learning and discovery. For many of us, learning ends when we leave school, but this doesn’t have to be. D. To explain why time flies and how to slow it down(为了解释为什么时间流逝的快,以及如何让它变慢)符合以上推测,故选D项。

He said he had had a stroke recently and while he was home now, he still needed to attend physical treatment.

I invited him inside to my living room. He said the stew was wonderful. Though I usually was skeptical of praise, I knew it had been because I made it with love. He talked of his next physical treatment appointment. I proposed driving him to the hospital, but he said he would figure it out. I appreciated his repairing my chair. He said it gave him a reason to get his strength back. He had returned to his usual self, and his confidence had returned. I was so thankful for the inner voice that directed me to see him that morning.
