Though many artists specialize in cityscapes (城市风光), very few create masterpieces as detailed as those sketched (画素描) by Stephen Wiltshire. Even more impressive is that each landscape, which takes the British artist just a few days to complete, is drawn from memory, a talent that has earned him the name “The Human Camera”.
Though Stephen is now considered an artistic talent, his start in life was rocky. Suffering from autism (自闭症) at the age of three, he was unable to relate to people and refused to say a single word. His talent came to light when his kindergarten teachers noticed how much the young boy enjoyed drawing. To encourage him to speak, they began providing him with art supplies only if he orally requested them. It was not surprising what was Stephen’s first word, spoken at age five. As a child, Stephen was good at sketching wildlife along with drawings of his teachers and classmates. However, as he grew older, it became apparent that his real talent and passion lay in drawing city skylines.
His unbelievable work did not go unnoticed. Stephen sold his first painting for $1620 (£ 1150) at age seven, and was invited by the British Prime Minister to create a drawing of the Salisbury Cathedral at age eight. Five years later, his first book of art came out in London! In 2006, to honor his significant contribution to the art world, Stephen was presented with a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) by Prince Charles.
Stephen’s famous artwork includes skylines of Rome, Hong Kong, Dubai, and London. A career highlight remains his first visit to New York when he was 13, a city he loves and often visits. It was there where he met the late author Oliver Sacks. The two became lifelong friends. Sacks once wrote, “His limitations can serve as strengths, too. His vision is valuable, because it conveys a wonderfully direct, unconventional view of the world.”
4. Why is Stephen called “The Human Camerna”
A. He is able to copy cityscapes exactly.
B. He can draw cities entirely from memory.
C. He is able to sketch cityscapes quickly.
D. He has drawn many cities in a few days.
5. What was probably Stephen’s first word since birth?
A. Mom. B. Art. C. Teacher. D. Paper.
6. What happened to Stephen when he was 13?
A. He sold his first painting. B. He met the government head.
C. He published a book. D. He received an MBE
7. How did Sacks regard Stephen’s disease?
A. It contributes to Stephen’s talent. B. It has no limitations to Stephen.
C. It gives Stephen great inner strength. D. It conveys a different view of the world.

Antiquities are ancient objects and artworks. Many people visit museums to view antiquities. They enjoy seeing these relics of the ancient world as a way of understanding past cultures and sometimes connecting with their own heritage.
Museums get works to show from many different sources. Sometimes they buy them. Other times they receive donations. Today there are strict guidelines forbidding art that has been stolen from other countries. However, antiquities that have been at museums for many years or even centuries may have arrived there by dishonest means. Now, some countries say that museums have a duty to return these antiquities to their original locations.
Should museums return the antiquities? Experts disagree. Malcolm Bell says yes. Bell is a professor of art at the University of Virginia. He says, “Many antiquities and works of art have special cultural value for a particular community or nation. When these works are taken from their original cultural setting, they lose their context and the culture loses a part of its history.”
According to Bell, a country’s request for the return of an antiquity “usually has a strong legal basis.” “It was exported (出口) illegally, probably also dug out illegally, and is now stolen property (财物).” He called the return of antiquities “an expression of justice”.
James Cuno says not always. Cuno is the president of the J. Paul Getty Trust, an art museum in Los Angeles. Cuno agrees that museums have a legal duty to return illegally exported antiquities. However, he doesn’t support the return of works which were got legally. “Land held today by a given nation-state in the past likely belonged to a different country...even if one wanted to return those stolen works of art, where would one do so? Which among the many countries, cities, and museums that own parts of a work of art should be the home of the returned work?” Cuno believes that museums should collect art from the world’s various cultures. This should be done “through buying or long-term loan (长期租借) and working together with museums and nations around the world.”
This debate is far from over. As a complex question with no easy answer, the issue requires more study.
8. What can we learn from the first two paragraphs?
A. Museums got antiquities through various means.
B. Antiquities from other countries are more valuable.
C. Antiquities are greatly appreciated by foreign visitors.
D. Museums around the world have lost many antiquities.
9. Both Bell and Cuno seem to agree that ___________.
A. illegally-owned antiquities should not be shown
B. museums should return illegally-owned antiquities
C. antiquities from other countries may lose its cultural value
D. museums should collect antiquities from different cultures
10. What is the author’s attitude toward the issue?
A. Positive. B. Negative.
C. Objective. D. Uninterested.
11. Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?
I: Introduction P: Point SP: Sub-point C: Conclusion
A. B.
C. D.
D
Southern Europe is facing a water crisis that could lead to a decrease in food production, especially in agriculture. Decreasing agricultural production in Europe and reduced water resources are future dangers as worldwide temperatures continue to rise, the world's top climate scientists say.
Part of the Vinuela reservoir (水库) is seen dry due to lack of rain in La Vinuela, southern Spain, Feb. 22,2022. Declining agricultural production and reduced water resources are key risks as global temperatures continue to rise.
Spain is facing one of the driest winters on record. Juan Camacho,a farmer in the southern province of Granada, said," We are facing a drastic situation." In Portugal, authorities have limited the use of some reservoirs for hydroelectric(水力发电的)power and irrigation as the country experiences an unusual winter drought.
Located between Costa del Sol and the Sierra Nevada mountains in southern Spain, Montes' land should have plenty of water. But with 41 percent less rain than average since October, dams contain almost no water. Private sources of water---such as ponds---that are supposed to last farmers through summer are empty.
"As farmers, we are used to dealing with drought," said Montes, who learned the job from his father when he was 14."But every year we see less and less rain. I fear for my livelihood."
As warming rises faster in Europe than the worldwide average, experts painted a picture of a divided continent. They suggest that the south would become increasingly dry and the north could take on a Mediterranean (地中海的) climate that might provide some increased crop production and forest growth, but with risks of its own.
Rachel Licker, a climate expert at the Union of Concerned Scientists, told The Associated Press, There are some vegetables and warm climate crops that might see benefits in the short term. The major crops that are exported and really form the basis of a lot of the economy are the ones that are likely to be negatively affected."
12. What is a major factor of a water crisis according to the passage?
A. Improper management. B. Polluted environment.
C. Limited use of reservoirs. D. A warmer climate.
13. What does the underlined word in the third paragraph probably mean?
A. Impressive. B. Serious. C. Positive. D. Attractive.
14. What can we learn from the passage?
A. This is the first time that the farmers have suffered so much from the drought.
B. Montes 'land has plenty of water because it has not been affected by the drought.
C. Northern Europe relatively doesn't suffer a lot partly due to the Mediterranean climate.
D. Private sources of water which include ponds can help farmers last through summer.
15. Which of the following might be the best title?
A. Droughts in Southern Europe B. Reduced Food Production
C. A Water Crisis Hit Europe D. Natural Disaster Strikes Often

Celebrate Arbor Day (植树节)
People in many countries observe Arbor Day. If you want to make a contribution to our planet you could start by reminding your family and neighbors of the importance of planting trees. ____16____ Following are some steps to help you choose and plant a tree.
1. Choose a tree that will grow well in your area. You should consider: how big the tree will grow, how long it will live, whether it produces fruit or flowers, and whether it attracts birds and other wildlife.
2. Decide where you will plant your tree. Remember that the tree’s root system and branches will need space to spread out and up, so you do not want to place it too close to your house or other buildings or other trees. ____17____
3. ____18____ Prepare a hole that is twice as wide as the root system of your tree, keeping in mind that it should not be too deep, as the tree needs to be level with or slightly taller than the ground around it. With a shovel, scrape the sides and bottom of the hole-this will help the roots work their way through the soil.
4. If your tree comes wrapped with burlap (粗麻布) around the roots, simply pull the cloth loose enough so that it falls around the root system in the hole.
5. Separate the roots slightly to encourage them to spread. Root tips die when exposed to light and air, so get the tree in the ground as quickly as possible. ____19____
6. Create a shallow depression (凹地) around the tree to collect water. Thoroughly water the tree and add mulch around its base to help keep the ground around the tree moist (潮湿的).
____20____ Because keeping your tree alive and thriving is an ongoing task.
A It’s time to dig.
B. It’s time to water the tree.
C. Then organize your own tree-planting event!
D. If your tree comes in a container, be sure to move it.
E. Then fill in the space around it with soil and pat it down.
F. Keep in mind that you should water it regularly and take good care of it.
G. And if you want to plant in a public space, make sure to get permission first from the local town board.

My mouth felt dry as I followed my mother into the doctor’s office and sank into a chair next to hers. This doctor had a room full of gadgets (小装置) and gizmos (小物件) to analyze the learning abilities of failing students. That day he had analyzed (分析) me. “I’m sorry to tell you this, Mrs. Dow, but Peter has dyslexia (阅读障碍). A fairly serious case.”
I swallowed and tried to breathe. The doctor went on. “He’ll never read above the fourth-grade level. Since he won’t be able to complete high school requirements, I suggest you enroll (使登记) him in a trade school (职校) where he can learn to work with his hands.” I didn’t want to go to trade school. I wanted to apply at Bible College in our town to be a preacher (牧师), like my dad. I forced my tears back. A twelve-year-old was too big to cry. “Thank you, Doctor.” We drove home.
Dyslexia? I’d never heard it before. Sure, I was always the slowest kid in my class. I had a special hiding place where I would cry because I couldn’t do my lessons however hard I tried. Of course, I never told my mom about that. I was too ashamed. I didn’t want to worry her, either. She had enough on her mind with teaching school full-time and taking care of Dad and me.
On reaching home, my mom looked into my eyes with tears running down her cheeks. Seeing her cry was too much for me. Before I knew what was happening, I was in her arms crying. A few minutes later she said, “Honey. I want to talk to you.” I waited, sniffling (抽泣). “You heard what the doctor said about your not finishing school. I don’t believe him.”
I stopped sniffling and looked at her. Her mild blue eyes smiled into mine. Behind them lay an iron will. “ We’ll have to work very hard, you and I, but I think we can do it. Now that I know what the problem is, we can try to overcome it. I’m going to hire a tutor who knows about dyslexia. I’ll work with you myself evenings and weekends.” Her eyebrows drew down as she peered at me. “Do you want to try, Peter?”
Paragraph 2:
A ray (线) of hope shone through the uncertain future.

B 5. D 6. C 7. A

根据第二段中“Museums get works to show from many different sources. Sometimes they buy them. Other times they receive donations.” 故选A。
根据第四段中“According to Bell, a country’s request for the return of an antiquity “usually has a strong legal basis.” “It was exported illegally, probably also dug out illegally, and is now stolen property.” He called the return of antiquities “an expression of justice”.” Cuno agrees that museums have a legal duty to return illegally exported antiquities.
根据最后一段“This debate is far from over. As a complex question with no easy answer, the issue requires more study.”
1、问全文主体事物的(包括主题),可以根据阐述主题或有关主体事物的相关句中的形容词、副词或动词确定作者的态度;
This debate is far from over. As a complex question with no easy answer, the issue requires more study.

A This is the first time that the farmers have suffered so much from the drought.
D 13. B 14. C 15. A

Celebrate Arbor Day (植树节)
People in many countries observe Arbor Day. If you want to make a contribution to our planet, you could start by reminding your family and neighbors of the importance of planting trees.

As the number of Internet users continues to grow worldwide, Internet safety is a growing concern for both children and adults.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
A ray (线) of hope shone through the uncertain future. “Yes, Mom. I really want to.” The next six years were an endurance run for both of us. I studied with a tutor twice a week. Each night my mom and I reviewed that day’s schoolwork until my head pounded and the print blurred before my eyes. At least twice a week, I wanted to quit. But my mom’s courage never wavered. Finally I passed my senior finals. We laughed and cried. I put my arms around my mom and hugged her close, a lump in my throat.
