B Once upon a time, there was a small village in the center of a big forest. All the villagers were used to their robotic farm work and none of them had the imagination or the will to try something new, except for one girl named Jo. Most villagers could not read or write, and Jo was an exception. One afternoon, when Jo was on one of her adventures in the forest, she came across an abandoned cottage. Though she’d been warned to stay away from abandoned places, her curiosity got the best of her. She slid in and was amazed to find a room full of books! Jo’s excitement was huge when she realized she had found a hidden treasure. She ran to tell the villagers everything, thinking that they would share her excitement but instead, she heard roars of laughter! Jo was confused by this reaction and a little hurt too, but she did not give up on her books. She came to the cottage every day and got down to reading the books. For her each page was an adventure with characters who challenged difficulties with their determination and who struggled for good. Knowing the power of stories in impressing on people the values of life, she decided to share the stories with the villagers, though she knew it would be a difficult journey. Making this her mission, Jo started telling stories every day at her cottage. In the beginning, only a few came to the readings. But word spread rapidly, causing more and more people to come, some of whom even traveled from far away to just listen to her stories. She also conducted workshops in which she taught people how to read and write. She was remembered and lived in her stories even after she was long gone. 4. Dedicated and honest. B. Devoted but confusing. C. Adventurous but careless. D. Determined and influential. 7. What is a suitable title for the text? A. A Hidden Treasure Discovered by Jo. B. Jo’s Journey: from Adventure to Education. C. The Power of Stories D. A Role Model in the Field of Education C Virtual reality is quickly becoming the new technological frontier. Tech companies everywhere seem to be racing to get their foot in the VR door. However virtual reality has a set of challenges and hurdles that it must overcome in order to work well. It should be noted that VR is heavily dependent on being very fast, very accurate and very good-looking. If it isn’t, the viewer will feel motion sick or disconnected from the world that VR is trying to create. Now that we can actually build VR headsets that begin to meet these requirements, we are seeing a rising interest in VR. As it rises, so does the interest in creating new media to be experienced in using virtual reality. Journalism is a medium built on relevance. Journalists should always be finding new ways to tell stories and deliver content. It is a goldmine for storytelling. What better ways to tell a story to someone than to put them right in the center of it? Virtual reality is a powerful tool for journalists. The consumer isn’t just reading or watching something play out; they’re experiencing it. The immersive nature of VR allows for people to connect with the subject matter on a much deeper level than just reading about it. The experience is emotional, speaking more to our instinct than our intellect. The possibilities for storytelling here are legion, and any storyteller wanting to do something more interesting than their peers should surely be considering the sheer power of VR. The question of virtual reality, though, is not how powerful it is. That is immediately apparent. The question of VR is one of viability and availability. Telling stories must be easy to do, and access to those stories must be readily available. This is the biggest challenge that VR faces. If the tools to tell a story with VR aren’t easy to pick up and learn, VR will fail. If VR technology isn’t both top-of-the-line and affordable, VR will fail. Accessibility was one concern for Thomas Hallaq, assistant professor of journalism and mass communications, who said that current VR technology, is pretty exclusive right now. Despite that, he said he doesn’t think the exclusivity of this technology will be a problem in the long run. “I think it’s very promising,” Hallaq said. “We’re seeing more technology become accessible, and more people having access to that technology. Just look at smartphones.” Like radio, TV and the Internet before it, virtual reality will change the way we tell stories. 8. Why is VR considered a powerful tool for journalism? A. Because it is an exclusively new tool. B. Because it is very powerful and popular. C. Because people can experience the story in person. D. Because it is very fast, accurate and good-looking. 9. According to the passage, what is the biggest challenge VR is facing? A. How powerful and interesting it can be. B. Whether people will have easy access to it. C. Whether qualified VR headsets can be built. D. What new ways people will find to deliver content. 10. What’s the author’s attitude towards the future of VR technology? A. Optimistic. B. Neutral. C. Pessimistic. D. Concerned. 11. Which of the following is the best title for the passage? A. The Wide Popularity of Virtual Reality B. The Future Development of Virtual Reality C. Challenges and Hurdles of Virtual Reality D. Virtual Reality is the Future of Storytelling D The Mogao Grottoes were a center of Buddhist life and some of the world’s great cultures for hundreds of years. However, by the late Qing Dynasty they had been abandoned and nearly forgotten and many of the caves had become damaged by the elements. Around 1900, with the discovery of a library of thousands of ancient documents, the caves received new interest from Chinese and foreign researchers. Unfortunately, this resulted in tens of thousands of items from the caves being taken to foreign museums In the 1940s, many researchers and artists visited the area to study traditional Chinese art. Copies of some of the artwork painted by respected artists such as Zhang Daqian and GuanShanyue helped people all over the country learn about Dunhuang. These artists were also inspired by the artwork they saw in the caves and it began to influence their painting styles. Others staved in the desert for much longer, Chang Shuhong stayed for the rest of his life — struggling to record the cultural treasures and protect them from the weather. As a result of their efforts the Dunhuang Academy was formed to protect and study the Mogao Grottoes. In 1987, the Mogao Grottoes were named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. While the caves are open to the public, access is now limited in order to protect the artwork. However, the caves can be seen online in digital form so that people around the world can study and enjoy them. Despite its remoteness, the Mogao Grottoes continue to draw visitors. And just as the sand and desert have survived largely unchanged through the centuries, this small art gallery in the desert has also survived largely unchanged providing an amazing look at a world long ago past. 12. When did the Mogao Grottoes regain the world’s attention? A. Hundreds of years ago. B. In the late Qing Dynasty. C. In the late eighties of the 20th century. D. Around the beginning of the 20th century. 13. What is the author’s purpose in mentioning the artists in the 1940s? A. To learn about their works. B. To show how hard they worked. C. To compare their different styles. D. To appreciate their contributions. 14. When people have no access to visiting the caves, . A. they can do researches online B. they can enjoy the digital versions C. they can watch copies in art galleries D. they can study them in foreign museums 15. Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text? A. The Mogao Grottoes — Center of Buddhist Life B. The Mogao Grottoes — Art Gallery in the Desert C. Respected artists — Protectors of the Mogao Grottoes D. An Amazing Tourist Attraction — The Mogao Grottoes 第二节(共5小题:每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Keeping animals safe on the road Roadkill is not a rare sight when driving down most highways and sometimes also on roadways in cities. ___16___. For her, each page was an adventure with characters who challenged difficulties with their determination and who struggled for good. 4. Which can best replace the underlined phrase “got the best of” in paragraph 2? A. Discouraged. B. Beat. C. Cheated. D. Scared. 5. Why did the villagers laugh when Jo told them her discovery? A. Jo’s excitement was huge when she realized she had found a hidden treasure.(她溜了进去,惊奇地发现满屋子都是书! 根据第三段“She ran to tell the villagers everything, thinking that they would share her excitement but instead, she heard roars of laughter!(她跑去告诉村民们一切,以为他们会分享她的兴奋,但相反,她听到了哄堂大笑!)”和第四段“Knowing the power of stories in impressing on people the values of life, she decided to share the stories with the villagers, though she knew it would be a difficult journey.(她知道故事的力量能让人们深刻认识到生命的价值,所以她决定与村民们分享这些故事,尽管她知道这将是一段艰难的旅程)”可推知,村民们哄堂大笑是因为他们对乔的发现不以为然。故选C。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段“Knowing the power of stories in impressing on people the values of life, she decided to share the stories with the villagers, though she knew it would be a difficult journey. Making this her mission, Jo started telling stories every day at her cottage.(她知道故事力量能让人们深刻认识到生命的价值,所以她决定与村民们分享这些故事,尽管她知道这将是一段艰难的旅程。把这作为她的使命,乔开始每天在她的小屋里讲故事)”和最后一段“In the beginning, only a few came to the readings. But word spread rapidly, causing more and more people to come, some of whom even traveled from far away to just listen to her stories.(一开始,只有少数人来阅读。 B。 C Virtual reality is quickly becoming the new technological frontier. Tech companies everywhere seem to be racing to get their foot in the VR door. However, virtual reality has a set of challenges and hurdles that it must overcome in order to work well. Virtual Reality is the Future of Storytelling 【答案】8. C 9. B 10. A 11. A recent study has measured, for the first time, the damage that can be caused to animals in urban areas on China’s fast-developing road network. ___17___. Li Zhongqiu and his team from Nanjing University’s School of Life looked at the problem in cities, where roadkill could have an even larger impact. They chose Nanjing as the study subject, where there are more than 9,700 kilometers of paved roads. A total of nine roads were chosen for the research, including three national highways. ___18___. The researchers then monitored the roads every two weeks over a year. The team recorded a total of 293 individual roadkill cases. Birds made up nearly half the total, making them the most susceptible (易受影响的) group to roadkill. ___19___. “This may be owing to the large number of stray (流浪的) cats and dogs in urban areas,” Li said. “Abandoned pets are more likely to wander into traffic.” Also, there are a large number of black birds in East China, and they can be attracted by flies or other insects, leading to further accidents. ___20___. This may be owing to the fact that some warm-blooded animals have to go out and search for food during these times when food is hard to find. “Roadkill has resulted in the decline (下降) of urban animal populations and must be taken seriously,” Li said.
