Step 2 Lead in Talk about something related to Christmas. 1. What is the date of Christmas? 2. What are the symbols? 3. What are the main activities on Christmas? 4. What stories do you know about Christmas? Step 3 Before reading: prediction Look at the title and the picture to predict the main idea of the passage. Step 4 While reading 1. Skimming: Read the passage silently and match the main idea. 2. Scanning: (1)Read Para. 1 and answer the questions as following. ①What are the common things that people think of for Christmas ? Gifts, Christmas trees and Santa Claus. ②What is the true meaning of Christmas? The importance of sharing and giving love and joy to people around us. (2)Read para 2 and answer. Some answers need inferring. ①Why does Scrooge hate Christmas? He doesn't want to spend money buying gifts or preparing a big meal for his family and friends. ②Does Jacob Marley want to help Scrooge? How do you know? He cares about Scrooge and wants to help him. 3.Careful reading: Read Para. 3 and finish the chart. What does Scrooge see when he's with the three ghosts?
