People make themselves into winners by their own experience. I learned this lesson from an experience many years ago. I took the head coaching job at a school in Baxley, Georgia. It was a small school with a weak football program. It was a tradition for the school's old team to play against the new team at the end of spring practice. The old team had no coach, and they didn't even practice to prepare for the game. Being the coach of the new team,I was excited because I knew we were going to win,but to my disappointment(失望) we lost the game. I couldn't believe I had got into such a situation. Thinking hard about it, I came to realize that my team might not be the number one team in Georgia, but they were depending on me, I had to change my attitude towards their ability. I started doing anything I could to help them build a little confidence. Most importantly, I began to treat them like winners. That summer, when the other teams were enjoying their vacations, we met every day and practiced passing and kicking the football. Six months after suffering(遭受) our failure on the spring practice field, we won our first game and our second, and continued to improve. In the end, we faced the number one team in the state. I felt that it would be a victory for us even if we lost the game. But that wasn't what happened. My boys beat the best team in Georgia, giving me one of the greatest excitements of my life. From the experience,I learned a lot about how attitude of the leader can influence the members of a team. Instead of seeing my boys as losers, I pushed and encouraged them. I helped them to see themselves differently, and they built themselves into winners. 6. What helps people become winners according to Paragraph 1? A. The coaching job. B. Their school lessons. C. The football program. D.Their own experience. 7. What does the underlined word “attitude” mean in Chinese? A.意见 B.能力 C.方法 D.态度 8. Which of the following shows the change of the writer's feelings? A.Bored→Peaceful→Happy. B.Angry→Surprised→Excited. C.Worried→Angry→Hopeful. D.Excited→Disappointed→Excited, 9. What does the writer mainly want to tell us in the last paragraph? A.The coach's attitude makes a difference. B. Losing the game is helpful for the players. C.Encouragement is the best way to success. D. The players should depend on themselves. 10. What's the text mainly about? A. Victory is everything. B. Never lose your heart. C. Teamwork leads to success. D. Winners are made, not born. C Everyone faces challenges(挑战) in their life. Daniel Kish had serous problems with his eyes when he was born. And doctors took away both of his eyes before he was fourteen months old. Soon after, however, he started to do an amazing thing. He started to make clicking(咔嗒) sounds with his tongue to help him move around. Much like a bat (蝙蝠), he now moves about using sonar(声呐). He is so good at it that he can ride a bicycle in traffic. He and his group,World Access for the Blind, teach others how to use sonar. In this interview with National Geographic, Kish explains how the process works. How does sonar work? “When I make a clicking sound, it makes sound waves(波).These waves reflect(反射) off surfaces(表面) all around and return to my ears. My brain then turns the sounds into images. It's like having a conversation with the environment." When you click, what do you see in your mind? “Each click is like a camera flash. I make a 3D image of the things around me for hundreds of feet in every direction.” What is it like riding a bike using sonar? “It's exciting and enjoyable but I need to pay attention. I click up to two times per second, much more than I usually do.” Is it dangerous to move around the world in this way? “Most people live in fear of things that they imagine. I have a habit of climbing anything and everything, but I never broke a bone(骨头)as a kid.” How challenging is it to teach people to use sonar? “Many students are surprised at how quickly results come. Seeing isn't in the eyes. It's in the mind.” 11. Kish now moves around with the help of _____. A. a walking stick B.sonar C. eyes D.a bat 12. What's the right order for how sonar works? a.
