四川省宜宾市第六中学校 胡孝刚 Period 1: Read, learn and improve Pe Little Prince Book 5 unit 1 Growing up 学习目标任务 获取有关Antoine de Saint Exupéry的相关信息。 培养学习阅读能力。 了解学生成长对成年人的态度。 谈谈自己成长个人经历。 Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (1900-1944) was a French writer and pilot. As a young boy, he was obsessed with aeroplanes, riding in one for the first time at the age of 12. He spent much of his life flying and writing about his adventures. Saint-Exupéry’s most successful work, The Little Prince, is one of the best-selling books ever published. The story was probably inspired by his plane crash in the desert in 1935. Saint-Exupéry nearly died, and wandered around for four days before being rescued. In 1944, Saint-Exupéry left on a wartime mission over occupied France, from which he never returned. Although the remains of his plane were discovered in 2000, his body has never been found, and the cause of his death remains unknown. Information of the author a boa constrictor a hat an elephant What is the picture? Task 1. Predict what the picture is Once when I was six years old I saw a magnificent picture in a book, called True Stories from Nature, about the primeval forest. It was a picture of a boa constrictor in the act of swallowing an animal. Here is a copy of the drawing. A picture of a boa constrictor in the act of ____________________________. swallowing an animal The first picture Task 2. Read and check your answer Read Para 1 and complete the blanks. But they answered: “Frightening? Why should anyone be frightened by a hat?” My drawing was not a picture of a hat. It was a picture of a boa constrictor digesting an elephant. author: a picture of _____________________________. grown-ups: ___________. a boa constrictor digesting an elephant My first drawing a hat Task 2. Read and check your answer Read Para 5,6 and complete the blanks. But since the grown-ups were not able to understand it, I made another drawing: I drew the inside of the boa constrictor, so that the grown-ups could see it clearly. They always need to have things explained. My Drawing Number Two looked like this: The grown-ups’ response, this time, was to advise me to lay aside my drawings of boa constrictors, whether from the inside or the outside, and devote myself instead to geography, history, arithmetic and grammar. author: the inside of _________________. grown-ups: lay aside ___________________________ _____________________________________________. my drawings of boa constrictors, My second drawing the boa constrictor whether from the inside or the outside. Task 2. Read and check your answer Read Para 6,7 and complete the blanks. The structure Paragraph Main idea Part 1 Para. 1-3 Para. 4-5 Part 2 Para. 6-7 Para. 8 Part 3 Para. 9-12 I was deep into a drawing from a book. The grown-ups’ response to my first drawing. The grown-ups’ response to my second drawing. The drawing experience made me choose a new profession. Later in my life, I held an attitude towards grown-ups. Task 3. Read to draw the mindmap Once when I was six years old I saw a magnificent picture in a book, called True Stories from Nature, about the primeval forest. It was a picture of a boa constrictor in the act of swallowing an animal. In the book it said: “Boa constrictors swallow their prey whole, without chewing it. After that they are not able to move, and they sleep through the six months that they need for digestion.” And after some work with a colored pencil I succeeded in making my first drawing. I showed my masterpiece to the grown-ups, and asked them whether the drawing frightened them. But they answered: “Frighten? Why should anyone be frightened by a hat?” Task 4. Read 1-5 and fill in the blanks Since the grown-ups were not able to understand it, I drew the inside of the boa constrictor, so that the grown-ups could see it clearly. The grown-ups’ response, this time, was to advise me to lay aside my drawings of boa constrictors, whether from the inside or the outside, and devote myself instead to other careers. That is why, at the age of six, I gave up what might have been a magnificent career as a painter. It is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them. So then I chose another profession, and learned to pilot airplanes. I have flown a little over all parts of the world; and it is true that geography has been very useful to me. At a glance I can distinguish China from Arizona. If one gets lost in the night, such knowledge is valuable. Task 4. Read 6-8 and fill in the blanks In the course of this life, I have had a great many encounters with a great many people who have been concerned with matters of consequence. I tried the experiment of showing him my Drawing Number One. I would try to find out if this was a person of true understanding. Then I would never talk to that person about boa constrictors, or primeval forests, or stars. I would bring myself down to his level. I would talk to him about bridge, and golf, and politics, and neckties. And the grown-up would be greatly pleased to have met such a sensible man. Task 4. Read 9-12 and fill in the blanks Choose the author’s attitude towards grown-ups and find evidence to support your choice. Grown-ups are more practical than children. They want to teach children knowledge that will be useful in the future. Grown-ups are no better than children. They lack imagination and only care about matters of consequence. Grown-ups are more knowledgeable than children. They can understand everything by themselves. Task 5. Read for the main idea Once when I was six years old I saw a magnificent picture in a book, I pondered deeply over the adventures of the jungle. And after some work with a colored pencil I succeeded in making my first drawing. I showed my masterpiece to the grown-ups, and asked them whether the drawing frightened them. But the grown-ups were not able to understand it. The grown-ups’ response was to advise me to lay aside my drawings of boa constrictors, whether from the inside or the outside, and devote myself instead to geography, history, arithmetic and grammar. That is why, at the age of six, I gave up what might have been a magnificent career as a painter. Task 6. Retell the experience of his life 作业安排 课前预习和课后巩固任务; 预习课文,勾划出重点词块; $$
