Chair Transformation Number 20B, made in 1996 — by Lucas Samaras Here, Samaras explores the double meaning of “flight”, referring to both the starlike form created by the stacked chairs, and the movement of a single chair moving through space. From different viewpoints, the sculpture appears to be upright, leaning back, or springing forward. From the side, it even appears like a zigzagging (之字形的) line. Typewriter Eraser, Scale X, made in 1998 — by Coosje van Bruggen The artist chose the typewriter eraser as his model for this work based upon childhood memories of playing with the object in his father’s office. Here the brush arcs (作弧形运动) back, conveying a sense of motion, as if the wheellike eraser were rolling down the hill and making its way towards the gate of the garden. Moondog, model 1974, made in 19981999 — by Tony Smith The title itself comes from two sources: Moondog was the name of a blind poet and folk musician who lived in New York City, and Smith has also compared this sculpture to Dog Barking at the Moon, a painting by Joan Miro. He first created Moondog in 1974 as a 33inch cardboard model and cast it in bronze as a garden sculpture in 1980. This version was designed by Smith, but it was not completed until after his death. Cheval Rouge (Red Horse), made in 1964 — by Alexander Calder During the last two decades of his life, Alexander Calder devoted his greatest efforts to largescale mobiles and stabiles (立式抽象派雕塑), many of which have become popular public landmarks in cities around the world. Here the silky legs and tensile (张力的) upthrust “neck” recall the power of a horse. This stabile reflects Calder's statement: “I want to make things that are fun to look at.” 1. Which was based on its creator’s early life? A. Moondog. B. Cheval Rouge (Red Horse). C. Typewriter Eraser, Scale X. D. Chair Transformation Number 20B. 2. What can we learn about the sculpture Moondog? A. It was originally intended for a garden. B. It was the only work of its creator. C. It was inspired by a modern painter. D. It wasn’t completed by its designer. 3. Whose work was created the earliest? A. Tony Smith’s. B. Lucas Samaras’. C. Alexander Calder’s. D. Coosje van Bruggen’s. 【答案】1. C 2. D 3. C 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇应用文。文章介绍了国家美术雕塑馆中的几个现代雕塑作品。 【1题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段第一句“The artist chose the typewriter eraser as his model for this work based upon childhood memories of playing with the object in his father’s office.(艺术家之所以选择打字机橡皮作为作品的模型,是因为他儿时在父亲的办公室里玩这个东西的记忆)”可知,Typewriter Eraser, Scale X基于它的创造者的早期生活。故选C。 【2题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段最后一句“This version was designed by Smith, but it was not completed until after his death.(这个版本是史密斯设计的,但直到他死后才完成)”可推知,Moondog不完全是由设计者完成的。故选D。 【3题详解】 细节理解题。根据“Chair Transformation Number 20B, made in 1996—by Lucas Samaras(椅子改造编号20B,制作于1996年,由Lucas Samaras设计)”;“Typewriter Eraser, Scale X, made in 1998—by Coosje van Bruggen(打字机橡皮,X级,1998年,由库斯耶·范·布鲁根制作)”;“Moondog, model 1974, made in 19981999—by Tony Smith(Moondog, 1974型,1998 - 1999年由托尼·史密斯制造)”以及“Cheval Rouge (Red Horse), made in 1964—by Alexander Calder(红马骑士(Cheval Rouge),由亚历山大·考尔德于1964年制作)”可知,Alexander Calder(亚历山大·考尔德)在1964年的作品最早。故选C。 B In an ideal world, we would be able to devote as much time to sports as we feel we need. But in reality, with growing demands in both work and family, we can only jump at the chance for our physical exercise when we can. Making the most of that time to practice Yin Yang yoga, which mixes the dynamic and slow-paced elements of yoga, helps keep you active and relaxed. Yin and Yang are the Taoist concepts representing a balance of opposite forces which are also interconnected. Yin is inactive, cooling, and negative, associated with the female force. Yang is active, warming, and positive, associated with action and movement. They are complementary to one another, as one cannot exist without the other. Yin Yang yoga is a combination of high-energy movement which builds energy, increases strength and promotes stamina (耐力), followed by the more restful practice of Yin to give us a deeper stretch (拉伸) and calm the nervous system. If you have a busy and active life you may feel more in Yang, so taking some cooler, slower Yin yoga practice into your routine may help you feel calmer and more balanced. If you are practicing for an hour, divide the time in half, Warm up with sun salutations (拜日式瑜伽), continue into a dynamic flow and then move on to some standing postures. After half an hour your heart will be pumping, muscles tighten up and you are hopefully feeling energetic, but ready for a rest. Then pick five Yin postures to hold for 3-5 minutes, or even longer if you are enjoying them! As ever with yoga, if you are a beginner or have health issues, always attend a class with a trained instructor first to guide you safely through the yoga practice and avoid injury. 4. What can be inferred from paragraph 1? A. Most of our sports time should be spent on Yin Yang yoga. B. We’d better devote as much time to physical exercise as we can. C. Busy schedule makes it impossible for us to do any form of sports. D. Yin Yang yoga can be a choice of physical exercise when time is tight. 5. What does the underlined word “complementary” in the second paragraph probably mean? A. Independent from one another. B. Competitive against one another. C. Similar to each other but unable to work together as a whole. D. Different from each other but together making a good combination. 6. Which of the following might be the benefit of Yin postures? A. Relaxing muscles. B. Building stamina. C. Strengthening the body. D. Quickening the heartbeat. 7. What suggestion does the writer give in the last two paragraphs? A. Hold each Yin posture for longer than 5 minutes. B. Do not practice yoga when you are not in good health. C. Start your yoga practice under the guidance of a trainer. D. Spare half an hour for five Yin postures in every yoga practice. 【答案】4. D 5. D 6. A 7. C 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍了阴阳瑜伽。阴阳瑜伽是一种高能运动的结合,它能增强能量,增强力量,提高耐力。 【4题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第一段“But in reality, with growing demands in both work and family, we can only jump at the chance for our physical exercise when we can. Making the most of that time to practice Yin Yang yoga, which mixes the dynamic and slow-paced elements of yoga, helps keep you active and relaxed.(但在现实中,随着工作和家庭的需求不断增长,我们只能在可以的时候抓住锻炼身体的机会。充分利用这段时间来练习阴阳瑜伽,它混合了瑜伽的动态和慢节奏元素,帮助你保持活跃和放松)”可知,当时间紧张时,阴阳瑜伽是一种体育锻炼的选择。故选D。 【5题详解】 词句猜测题。根据划线处上句“Yin is inactive, cooling, and negative, associated with the female force. Yang is active, warming, and positive, associated with action and movement.(阴是不活跃的、冷却的、消极的,与女性的力量有关。阳是活跃的,温暖的,积极的,与行动和运动有关)”以及后句“as one cannot exist without the other. (因为一个人离不开另一个)”可知,阴阳彼此不同,但在一起形成了一个很好的组合,故选D。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第三段“followed by the more restful practice of Yin to give us a deeper stretch (拉伸) and calm the nervous system.(然后是更安静的阴练习,给我们更深的伸展和平静的神经系统)”以及文章第四段“If you have a busy and active life you may feel more in Yang, so taking some cooler, slower Yin yoga practice into your routine may help you feel calmer and more balanced.(如果你的生活繁忙而活跃,你可能会感到更多的阳气,所以在你的日常生活中进行一些凉爽、缓慢的阴瑜伽练习可能会帮助你感觉更平静、更平衡)”可知,阴的姿势可以放松肌肉。故选A。 【7题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章最后一段“As ever with yoga, if you are a beginner or have health issues, always attend a class with a trained instructor first to guide you safely through the yoga practice and avoid injury.(和瑜伽一样,如果你是初学者或有健康问题,一定要先参加有训练有素的教练指导你安全地进行瑜伽练习,避免受伤)”可知,作者建议在教练的指导下开始你的瑜伽练习。故选C。 C Plastic is everywhere, from the Arctic ice to vital organs in the human body. In fact, previous estimates suggest that the average person swallows a credit card-worth of microscopic plastic particles(颗粒) every week. But new research shows that this could actually be an understatement. Microplastics are plastics smaller than 5 millimeters, found in industrial waste, beauty products, and formed during the degradation of larger plastic pieces. Over time, they break down into even smaller nanoplastics. These tiny particles can pass through our intestines and lungs into our bloodstreams, reaching vital organs like the heart and brain. While the idea of eating plastic is unsettling in itself, the major concern here is that these plastic particles contain chemicals that can interrupt our body’s natural release of hormones, potentially increasing our risk of reproductive disorders and certain cancers. They can also carry toxins(毒素) on their surface like heavy metals. In the past, researchers have shown bottled water can contain tens of thousands of identifiable plastic fragments in a single container. However, until recently, only the larger microplastics were detectable with available measuring tools, leaving the area of nanoplastics largely a mystery. Using Raman microscopy (显微镜学), capable of detecting particles down to the size of a flu virus, the team measured an average of 240, 000 particles of plastic per liter of bottled water, 90 percent of which were nanoplastics, a revelation 10 to 100 times larger than previous estimates. These plastics likely originate from the bottle material, filters used to “purify” the water, and the source water itself. “It is not totally unexpected to find so much of this stuff, ” the study’s lead author, Columbia graduate student Naixin Qian, said in a statement. His team hopes to expand their research into tap water and other water sources to better inform our exposure to these potentially dangerous particles. “The idea is that the smaller things get, the more of them I reveal, ” he added. 8. What is the primary focus of the new research? A. The presence of plastic particles. B. The use of plastic in everyday products. C. The detection methods for microplastics. D. The potential risks of nanoplastics to human. 9. What is the advantage of Raman microscopy? A. Finding the source of plastic particles. B. Helping to cure the deadly flu virus. C. Detecting the smaller plastic particles. D. Improving the quality of bottled water. 10. Why will the team expand their research into tap water? A. To focus on areas with higher plastic pollution. B. To be aware of the dangerous particles in daily life. C. To further measure the types of particles in tap water. D. To detect the smaller plastic particles in industrial areas. 11. What is Qian’s attitude towards his research? A. Skeptical. B. Objective. C. Conservative. D. Positive. 【答案】8. D 9. C 10. B 11. D 【解析】 【导语】本文是说明文。主要介绍了一项新的研究揭示微塑料和纳米塑料对人体健康的潜在影响。 【8题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“While the idea of eating plastic is unsettling in itself, the major concern here is that these plastic particles contain chemicals that can interrupt our body’s natural release of hormones, potentially increasing our risk of reproductive disorders and certain cancers. They can also carry toxins(毒素) on their surface like heavy metals.( 虽然吃塑料的想法本身就令人不安,但主要的担忧是,这些塑料颗粒含有的化学物质会中断我们身体自然释放的激素,可能会增加我们患生殖障碍和某些癌症的风险。它们的表面也会携带重金属等毒素。)” 可知,新研究的焦点是纳米塑料对人体可能造成的风险。故选D。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段“Using Raman microscopy (显微镜学), capable of detecting particles down to the size of a flu virus, the team measured an average of 240, 000 particles of plastic per liter of bottled water, 90 percent of which were nanoplastics, a revelation 10 to 100 times larger than previous estimates.(利用拉曼显微镜,能够检测到流感病毒大小的颗粒,研究小组测量到每升瓶装水中平均有24万个塑料颗粒,其中90%是纳米塑料,比之前估计的要大10到100倍。)”可知,拉曼显微镜学的优势是能够检测到非常小的塑料颗粒。故选C。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段的“His team hopes to expand their research into tap water and other water sources to better inform our exposure to these potentially dangerous particles.(他的团队希望将他们的研究扩展到自来水和其他水源,以更好地了解我们接触这些潜在危险颗粒的情况。)”可以推断出,研究小组将研究扩展到自来水等其他水源是为了让人们意识到在日常生活中面临的颗粒风险。故选B。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中Qian的话 “It is not totally unexpected to find so much of this stuff(发现这么多这种东西并不完全出乎意料) ” 及 “The idea is that the smaller things get, the more of them I reveal(我的想法是,东西越小,我揭示的东西就越多)” 可知他并不对发现大量微塑料感到完全意外,并且研究对象越小,揭示的就会越多,因此可以推断出Qian对他的研究持积极态度。故选D。 D Pat Patterson, a pilot for 25 years, had never met anyone like the handsome young man in the wheelchair who faced him at the Medford, Oregon, airport on July 28, 1976. Mike Henderson, a quadriplegic (四肢瘫痪者), wanted flying lessons. As a 22-year-old Coast Guardsman eight years before, Henderson had fallen off a dock and landed on a floating log, breaking two of his bones. Doctors said that he would probably never walk again, let alone fly. “Here was this doctor telling me how it was going to be,” he says, “but no one was going to limit my freedom to try.” Henderson parked his wheelchair next to the airplane and began to climb up onto the wing. He injured his elbow on the way, and after a great struggle, finally managed to pull himself into the airplane’s pilot’s seat. In the flight office, Pat Patterson watched in disbelief. “He crawled his way up that wing!” he says. “It took him 45 minutes. When I went out, he was sitting in the pilot’s seat, bleeding from his injured elbow all over the place. When I saw him go through that much pain, I knew nothing could stop him.” Now everything was up to the instructor and the student, and together they set about solving each problem as it arose. A small piece of carpet gave Henderson traction (摩擦力) to climb the slippery wing. A headset freed his hands from the radio microphone, and the two men developed a moving bar that enabled Henderson to operate the airplane more easily. Three weeks and eight flying hours after the first lesson, Henderson and Patterson happily phoned Dr. Stoddard — Henderson’s physician. At the airport, as the physician looked on, Henderson quickly wheeled himself around the airplane, doing a thorough, professional ground check. With Patterson and Dr. Stoddard on board, he went through his preflight instrument check. Minutes later, engine starting, the plane rolled down the runway and took off into the gray sky. 12. When did Mike Henderson become disabled? A. At the age of 25. B. In 1968. C. At the age of 30. D. In 1976. 13. What did Pat Patterson think of Mike Henderson when they met first? A. Depressed. B. Experienced. C. Determined. D. Delighted. 14. What is Paragraph 4 mainly about? A. How Patterson and Henderson overcame the difficulties together. B. How Patterson helped Henderson overcome the difficulties. C. How Patterson taught Henderson to fly with difficulty. D. The difficulties Henderson faced before flying. 15. What do we know from the text? A. Patterson didn’t want to teach Henderson at first. B. Henderson finally succeeded in flying alone. C. Patterson was very strict with Henderson. D. Henderson went through a lot of difficulties. 【答案】12. B 13. C 14. A 15. 由第二段中“As a 22-year-old Coast Guardsman eight years before, Henderson had fallen off a dock and landed on a floating log, breaking two of his bones.(8年前,作为一名22岁的海岸警卫队队员,Henderson从一个码头上摔下来,落在一根漂浮的圆木上,摔断了两根骨头)”可知,Mike Henderson是在8年前的一次事故中受的伤;且由第一段的“on July 28, 1976”可知,Pat Patterson与Mike Henderson见面的时间是1976年,因此可以推出Mike Henderson因伤致残的时间是1968年。故选B。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。由第三段中的“When I saw him go through that much pain, I knew nothing could stop him.(当我看到他经历那么多痛苦时,我知道没有什么能阻止他)”可知,Pat Patterson第一次见到Mike Henderson时认为他意志坚决,故选C。 【14题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第四段内容,结合本段中的“Now everything was up to the instructor and the student, and together they set about solving each problem as it arose.(现在一切都取决于老师和学生,他们一起着手解决每一个出现的问题)”可知,本段主要讲述atterson和Henderson是如何一起克服困难的。B、C项的中心人物是Pat Patterson;D项中的中心人物是Mike Henderson;且这几项都没有突出二人是互相帮助、共同克服困难这一中心思想。故选A。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中“He injured his elbow on the way, and after a great struggle, finally managed to pull himself into the airplane’s pilot’s seat.(途中,他的手肘受了伤,经过一番挣扎,他终于爬上了飞机的驾驶员座位)”和第四段“Now everything was up to the instructor and the student, and together they set about solving each problem as it arose.(现在一切都取决于老师和学生,他们一起着手解决每一个出现的问题)”可知,Henderson经历了很多困难。故选D。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to Read a Poem You’ve selected the poem you want to read — congratulations! One day, after receiving a lower grade than she expected on an important test. Lily was falling apart. Sad and overwhelmed, she even started considering her failure was due to her parents. She quarreled with her parents and kept them out of her room. Lily’s parents turned to the school teacher Mr. Thompson for help. They poured out all the bad present situations to him. Mr. Thompson was a professional teacher with a deep understanding of the importance of a balanced lifestyle. He recognized that it was Lily’s too much worry about grades that was having a bad effect on her and the parent-child relationships. Mr. Thompson advised Lily’s parents to calm down first. As Lily continued her daily runs, something remarkable started to happen. Lily’s once imitable personality slowly began to disappear, and she apologized to her parents for her former rudeness. Her grades remained consistently high with a changed lifestyle. Seeing Lily’s change, Mr. Thompson recommended her to give a speech to her classmates. In her speech, Lily expressed her gratitude to Mr. Thompson who helped her get rid of stress and build a good relationship with her parents. B In an ideal world, we would be able to devote as much time to sports as we feel we need. C Plastic is everywhere, from the Arctic ice to vital organs in the human body. 8. D Pat Patterson, a pilot for 25 years, had never met anyone like the handsome young man in the wheelchair who faced him at the Medford, Oregon, airport on July 28, 1976. D.
