专题06 阅读理解训练-2023-2024学年八年级英语下册期末综合复习训练(人教版) A I love to help At least once a week after school I go to my school’s library to help tutor students in math. I check in at the main desk, and I pick up my badge(徽章): “Math Tutor(指导教师)”. It is quite an old badge, which some tutor made by hand years ago. I sit down at a desk, and I take out my own work. Some days are quite slow, and I might as well get a little homework done while I’m waiting for someone to help. Sometimes, there is more than one person who requires help, and I just sit at the head of a table and supervise(指导) people doing their homework. I answer any questions that come up along the way. But I mostly work on my own homework, and they ask me for help whenever they need it. I walk them through a problem, and they finish the rest of it themselves. However, other times, there is just one person that comes to me, and they are in need of more than just homework help. Perhaps they have missed a couple days of school, or they simply don’t get the lessons that the teacher is teaching, and need more help. I sit down with them, and talk to them about their problem. As I slowly go over each problem, I love watching the expressions on their faces change from upset and confusion(困惑) to understanding. I love being a volunteer tutor because of the wonderful, warm feeling I get when I know that I was able to help someone understand or learn something new. I hope to continue doing it for the rest of high school. ( ) 1.What does the writer do in his school’s library after school? A.He studies. B.He helps the librarian. C.He teaches students math. Many people watched the video of the accident on the Internet. In the video, the new student Jackson just got a seat and ate his chicken Sandwich. Suddenly the food stuck in his throat and his face turned red. Hunter Olsen sat across from Jackson.  He thought that Jackson was just joking and laughed at it along with his friends. But soon it became clear that Jackson was really choking and tried to cough the food out. He pointed to his throat to tell Hunter that he was not playing. Hunter realized that he had to do something and used the Heimlich maneuver (海姆立克急救法). Finally, Jackson coughed the food out and could breathe again. Ms. Howa, who taught them the Heimlich maneuver during her health class, said she couldn’t believe her ears when she heard what happened. But she was over the moon to know that her student put what she taught into practice. She was so proud of Hunter. Hunter said he wasn’t interested in Ms. Howa’s class because he thought he would never use it in his life, but her great teaching helped him know what to do when in trouble. C This Monday, across the USA, kids are not going to school but going to work with their parents. They’ll be making copies(传真) and sweeping floors. This is because April 28 is Take Our Sons and Daughters to Work Day all over the USA.This holiday shows kids what it means to be a grown-up in the working world. I still remember when this day started, I was very happy. Not only did I have the chance that I needn’t go to school, but also I got to sit in my dad’s taxi all day long and we would go to a restaurant for lunch. But after only 20 minutes of driving around the city, I was very bored. I couldn’t read my book in my dad’s taxi car as I would get carsick(晕车) .And to save money, the air conditioner(空调) was not on. I got hot and uncomfortable. People wouldn’t get into his taxi because they thought he already had a passenger—me, so dad didn’t pick up a passenger in a whole morning and we didn’t make any money. It seemed like years before we went out for lunch. I actually started to miss school. While the purpose(目的) of the day is to give kids a chance to experience real-life jobs, I got something completely different from the day. I learned to value(珍惜) school. B.To give kids a chance to know about real-life jobs. C.To help their parents make money for their family. ( )4.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage? A.We can do many interesting things at school. B.We should love our jobs better than our school now. C.The writer will leave school to work with her father again. ( )5.What did the writer learn that day? A.It’s hard to make money, but you have to. B.Working with Dad is fun. C.School life is wonderful, we need to value it.
