B Growing up in Kenya, Lesein Mutunkei, together with his family, always celebrated significant occasions by planting trees, which motivated him to protect the environment. It’s what the now 18-year-old soccer player treasures, especially since Kenya has an ongoing problem with deforestation. Mutunkei follows in the footsteps of the late Kenyan Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathai who founded the Green Belt Movement in 1977. This initiative has resulted in the planting of over 51 million trees to date. In 2018, Lesein decided to start a movement of his own. He started by planting one tree for every goal he scored during a football match. He called it Trees4Goals, and it has grown so much that he now plants 11 trees, one for each member of his team, every time he scores. Through this, he wants to inspire young people, specifically his fellow athletes, to follow in his footsteps, take nature conservation seriously, and promise to plant trees every time they score. As a result, some of them have adapted this practice for their sports. “Seeing that they’re taking that responsibility because of the project I started, for me, that is the biggest achievement,” he said. The initiative has caught the attention of English football club Arsenal and Kenya’s Ministry of Environment and Forestry, which he now works with regularly and gets advice from. Like Green Belt Movement, Trees4Goals, which has planted 5,500 trees so far, has made it. While Lesein has received some recognition for his initiative, he sets his sights on making it a worldwide phenomenon. “Football is a universal game, and climate change is a universal problem,” he explains. “It has the power to unite, educate and inspire my generation to create a safer and greener future.” This is why he wants to work with the world’s biggest football federation FIFA. As for what others can do to fight deforestation or other environmental concerns, the teenager says it’s important to just get involved in some way, no matter how small. 4. What made Lesein get interested in environmental protection? A. The influence of his family. B. Wangari Maathai’s huge assistances. C. The demand of the football team. D. His fellow athletes’ encouragement. 5. Why did Lesein found Trees4Goals? A. To gain Kenya’s support. B. To set an example for others. C. To catch Arsenal’s attention. D. To show his achievements. 6. What is Lesein’s hope for the future of Trees4Goals? A. Promoting football’s development. B. Going global with the help of FIFA. C. Beating climate change completely. D. Getting beyond Green Belt Movement. 7. What can we learn from Lesein’s story? A. Fame is a great thirst of the young. B. A youth is to be regarded with respect. C. Positive thinking and action result in success. D. Success means getting personal desires satisfied. C We sometimes think that everything was much better and easier in the past. It’s one of the tricks our minds play on us, especially when we are in low spirits. Actually, it’s unlikely that things were objectively better in the past. This form of thinking is called rosy retrospection, which is a well-studied cognitive bias. It happens because when we think about the past, we are more likely to focus on positive generalities than annoying details. If you think back to a holiday with your family five years ago you’re likely to recall the beautiful views rather than the uncomfortable bed. In other words, the negative details disappear from our memory over time while the positive ones remain. Rosy retrospection can influence how we make decisions, and it’s one of the reasons why we easily return into problematic relationships. The longer it is since we experienced the negative influence of a relationship, the more likely we are to let the good memories outweigh the bad memories and to perhaps forgive unforgivable behavior. It’s always a good idea to review our nostalgic (怀旧的) feelings with a healthy degree of doubt. But rosy retrospection does serve an important purpose. It keeps us in a positive state of mind in the present and is important to our psychological wellbeing. In fact, people who tend to remember negative experience s more than positive ones are likely to exhibit psychological disorders. Research generally suggests that our happiest days are still to come. And even if they’re not, it’s still important to believe that they are. Don’t shy away from looking upon the past with a certain degree of nostalgia. But, for the same reason, don’t use the past as an excuse to be unhappy in the present. 8. When we think about the past, we usually __________. A. improve present living conditions B. beautify past experiences C. focus on mind mapping D. play games to forget bad things 9. What does the underlined phrase “rosy retrospection” in Paragraph 2mean? A. Having a preference for good memories. B. Remembering exactly about the details. C. Concentrating on impossible things. D. Thinking objectively about the past. 10. Which of the following is encouraged by the author according to Paragraph 4? A. Reviewing the nostalgic feelings critically. B. Ignoring the nostalgic feelings absolutely. C. Forgiving the unacceptable behavior generously. D. Getting back to the problematic relationships bravely. 11. What is the author’s attitude toward rosy retrospection according to the passage? A. Negative. B. Subjective. C. Favorable. D. Objective. D If someone created a flying machine able to track you down by listening for your voice, you might be terrified. But what if you were trapped in ruins after a natural disaster and first responders couldn’t locate you? Maybe then a human-seeking drone (无人机) wouldn’t be such a terrible idea. That concept is the focus for engineers at Germany’s Fraunhofer FKIE Institute, who’ve built a drone to find people by detecting human screams. “The human seeking drone would be ideal for responder post-disaster situations, such as earthquakes, hurricanes and wildfires,” said Macarena Varela, one of the lead engineers. “They could hover (盘旋) over an area that rescue crews have difficulty getting to and locate exactly where people may be trapped.” Locating people by sound presents its share of challenges. An auditory (听觉的) system would need to tell human cries from sounds that often happen in nature, such as animal calls and wind. It might also need to recognize patterns associated with kicking, clapping or other ways people try to get the attention of rescue teams. Engineers took those situations into account when building out their concept drone. They recorded themselves screaming, tapping and creating other noises that might be a sign of people in trouble. Then, they analyzed each sound frequency to find common signatures and used those to train artificial intelligence software. They also worked to remove the noise created by the drone and other environmental sounds. Once the software part was completed, the team placed tiny digital microphones under the drone and used signal processing techniques that enabled them to track where human noises are coming from. The microphones also enhanced the volume and clearness of the speech. So far, they have conducted successful open field experiments, finding that the drone can estimate a victim’s location within a few seconds of picking up sound. Next, they would like to add a higher frequency microphone to a drone to acquire more audio sound signals. The idea is to pick up noises from hundreds of meters away, Varela said. In the real world, victim’s location date might one day be sent wirelessly to emergency crews carrying a tablet. 12. What is the advantage of the human-seeking drone? A. Its high speed of flying. B. Its long working hours. C Its quick response to screams. D. Its easy access to disaster scene. 13. What can the auditory system do? A. Recognize human cries. B. Pick up sounds from far away. C. Send victim’s location data to a tablet. D. Improve the quality of human screams. 14. Up to now, engineers have successfully ________. A. developed higher frequency microphones for use on drones B. rescued disaster victims by using drones to recognize human cries C. coached artificial intelligence software to distinguish human and natural sounds D. completed outdoor experiments using drones to quickly locate disaster victims 15. Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A. AI Enables Drones to Give Better Performance B. Human-seeking Drones Replace Rescue Crews C. Engineers Teach Drones to Hunt Human Screams D. Rescuers Use Drones to Locate Disaster Survivors Minimalism isn’t about being boring or getting rid of most of your things and living in empty rooms. We had not seen rain in almost a month. The crops were dying. Cows had stopped giving milk. The creeks and streams were long gone back into the earth. It was a dry season that would bankrupt several farmers before it was through. Every day, my husband and his brothers would go about the tiring process of trying to get water to the farm. If we didn't see some rain soon, we would lose everything. It was on this day that I learned the true lesson of sharing and witnessed the only miracle I have seen with my own eyes. I was in the kitchen making lunch for my husband and his brothers when I saw my six-year old son, Billy, walking toward the woods. He wasn’t walking with the usual carefree abandon of a youth but with a serious purpose. I could only see his back. He was obviously walking with a great effort trying to be as still as possible. Minutes after he disappeared into the woods, he came running out again toward the house. I went back to make sandwiches, thinking that whatever task he had been doing was completed. Moments later, however, he was once again walking in that slow purposeful stride toward the woods. This activity went on for over an hour: walking carefully to the woods, and then running back to the house. Finally, my curiosity got the best of me. I crept out of the house and followed him on his journey. He was cupping both hands in front of him as he walked, very careful not to spill the water he held. Maybe two or three tablespoons were held in his tiny hands. I sneaked closer as he went into the wood. Branches and thorns slapped his little face but he did not try to avoid them. He had a much greater purpose. As I leaned in to spy on him, I saw an amazing sight. A mother deer with a huge pair of deer horns appeared in front of him, with a baby fawn(幼鹿)lying on the dry ground. I almost screamed to get him away. However, Billy walked right up to them. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I witnessed the most beautiful heart working hard to save a life. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 听力答案:1-5 CCBAA 6-10 BCCCA 11-15 BBABA 16-20CCBAB 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 滁州2024届高三适应性考试 英语 注意事项: 1. How much is the shirt? 4. A 5. B 6. B 7. If you think back to a holiday with your family five years ago, you’re likely to recall the beautiful views rather than the uncomfortable bed. A. Negative. B. Subjective. C. Favorable. D. Objective. B 9. A 10. A 11. 根据第一段“We sometimes think that everything was much better and easier in the past.(我们有时认为过去的一切都好得多,容易得多)”可知,当我们想起过去时,我们通常会美化过去的经历。 根据划线词后文“It happens because when we think about the past, we are more likely to focus on positive generalities than annoying details.(之所以会发生这种情况,是因为当我们回想过去时,我们更倾向于关注积极的概况,而不是恼人的细节)”可知,这种思维方式的出现是因为我们回想过去,更偏爱好的记忆。 故选A。 根据第四段“The longer it is since we experienced the negative influence of a relationship, the more likely we are to let the good memories outweigh the bad memories and to perhaps forgive unforgivable behavior. It’s always a good idea to review our nostalgic (怀旧的) feelings with a healthy degree of doubt.(我们经历一段关系的负面影响的时间越长,我们就越有可能让美好的记忆超过糟糕的记忆,也许会原谅不可原谅的行为。用健康的怀疑态度来回顾我们的怀旧情绪总是一个好主意)”可知,批判性地回顾怀旧情绪是作者所鼓励的。故选A。 根据第二段“Actually, it’s unlikely that things were objectively better in the past. This form of thinking is called rosy retrospection, which is a well-studied cognitive bias.(事实上,客观上讲,过去的情况不太可能比现在好。这种思维方式被称为玫瑰色回顾,这是一种经过充分研究的认知偏见)”以及最后一段“But rosy retrospection does serve an important purpose. It keeps us in a positive state of mind in the present and is important to our psychological wellbeing.(但乐观的回顾确实有一个重要的目的。它让我们保持积极的心态,对我们的心理健康很重要)”可推知,作者提到了玫瑰色回顾的缺点和优点,即对玫瑰色的回顾持客观态度。故选D。 D If someone created a flying machine able to track you down by listening for your voice, you might be terrified. C. Its quick response to screams. D. Its easy access to disaster scene. 13. What can the auditory system do? A. Recognize human cries. B. Pick up sounds from far away. C. Send victim’s location data to a tablet. D. Improve the quality of human screams. 14. Up to now, engineers have successfully ________. A. developed higher frequency microphones for use on drones B. rescued disaster victims by using drones to recognize human cries C. coached artificial intelligence software to distinguish human and natural sounds D completed outdoor experiments using drones to quickly locate disaster victims 15. Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A. AI Enables Drones to Give Better Performance B. Human-seeking Drones Replace Rescue Crews C. Engineers Teach Drones to Hunt Human Screams D. Rescuers Use Drones to Locate Disaster Survivors 【答案】12. C 13. A 14. D 15. What I’d like to convey is that to travel is to learn. Take my journey to Xi’an as an example. Previously, I had only had a glimpse of the historical sites and the local delicacies from books and pictures. However, it was not until I set foot in the city that it dawned on me how spectacular the city was. I felt the surroundings with my own eyes, noses and so on, thus enormously broadening my horizons and deepening my understanding of textbook knowledge. As a Chinese saying goes, “It is better to walk ten thousand miles than to read ten thousand books”. It is highly advocated that everyone of us seize a chance and start an amazing journey to learn. That’s all. Thank you for listening. 要求考生以“To Travel Is To Learn”为题写一篇发言稿。 I felt the surroundings with my own eyes, noses and so on, thus enormously broadening my horizons and deepening my understanding of textbook knowledge. I felt the surroundings with my own eyes, noses and so on, which enormously broadened my horizons and deepened my understanding of textbook knowledge. 【点睛】[高分句型1] However, it was not until I set foot in the city that it dawned on me how spectacular the city was. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】However, Billy walked right up to them. The baby deer obviously suffered from heavy loss of water and heat exhausiton, lifting its head with great effort to lap up the water cupped in my beautiful boy’s hand. With wet eyes, the baby deer looked at Billy, and Billy looked back, and there seemed to be a magic magnetic field between them. From time to time the baby deer nudged Billy’s hand with its nose as if saying thank you. I witnessed the most beautiful heart working hard to save a life. At the moment he stood up and turned, I was there in front of him. His eyes were filled with tears. “I’m not wasting,” he said. “It’s OK,” I comforted him. Then I joined him with a small pot of water from the kitchen. I let him walk to the baby deer alone while I stood at the edge of the woods. As tears rolled down my face, they were suddenly joined by other drops...and more drops... as if the sky itself was crying. 词汇激活 行为类 ①充满:be filled with/be full of ②加入:join/take part in ③似乎:as if/it seems that 【点睛】[高分句型1]The baby deer obviously suffered from heavy loss of water and heat exhausiton, lifting its head with great effort to lap up the water cupped in my beautiful boy’s hand.
