Cold sandwiches, which are popular with Westerners, are probably one of the last options on their minds. But that is not to say that consumers, especially those in an international city like Shanghai, would avoid everything considered Western for breakfast. For instance, coffee, which has steadily grown in popularity in the country, is one drink that many cannot do without today. To satisfy this growing demand for breakfast sets that combine elements from the East and the West, food companies have been rolling out (推出) a host of new offerings to attract the customer. One example is Shanghai Qiao Coffee, launched by local time-honored food company Qiaojiashan at the end of 2019. Apart from its traditional dim sum (点心), the store also sells various types of coffee. According to Shen Yan, deputy manager of Qiaojiashan, the most popular breakfast set now is the steamed vegetable bun paired with black coffee. “The calories that one gets from a meal consisting of Chinese dim sum and coffee are less than those of a Western breakfast. Since a steamed bun has nearly 200 calories and a cup of black coffee barely has any calories, this combination can be considered healthy and delicious,” said Shen. Even the smaller shoppers in the food scene are jumping on the East-West breakfast trend. Western food companies, too, have been rolling out Chinese breakfast options. “Consumers and even cultural heritage will also benefit from the increased competition. If not for the current trend which has revived interest in certain traditional dim sum, these foods could soon be lost to history,” Shen said. 4. What can we learn about breakfast in Shanghai in Paragraph 1? A. Coffee is a must for many people. B. Cold sandwiches are a popular choice. C. People avoid western food for breakfast. D. People prefer porridge and steamed buns. 5. Why does the set of the steamed vegetable bun with black coffee sell well? A. Because it’s traditional. B. Because it’s tasty and healthy. C. Because it’s newly created. D. Because it contains more vegetables. 6 What can be inferred from Shen’s words in the last paragraph? A. Western food companies dislike East-West breakfast. B. Big companies have the ability to seize the market share. C. The competition for breakfast sets is of no benefit to consumers. D. Some traditional foods may disappear without the combination trend. 7. What is the main idea of the text? A. Chinese consumers show more interest in western food. B. Western breakfast is warmly welcomed by Shanghai people. C. The Chinese-Western breakfast set is becoming a hit in Shanghai. D. Shanghai Qiao Coffee has won great success for its breakfast sets. A 5. B 6. D 7. 根据第一段中“For instance, coffee, which has steadily grown in popularity in the country, is one drink that many cannot do without today.(例如,咖啡在这个国家越来越受欢迎,如今很多人都离不开它。)” 故选A。 根据倒数第二段“According to Shen Yan, deputy manager of Qiaojiashan, the most popular breakfast set now is the steamed vegetable bun paired with black coffee. “The calories that one gets from a meal consisting of Chinese dim sum and coffee are less than those of a Western breakfast. Since a steamed bun has nearly 200 calories and a cup of black coffee barely has any calories, this combination can be considered healthy and delicious,” said Shen.(Qiaojiashan 副经理沈燕表示,目前最受欢迎的早餐套餐是配黑咖啡的包子。“人们从中式点心和咖啡中获得的卡路里比西式早餐要少。因为一个馒头含有近200卡路里,而一杯黑咖啡几乎没有任何卡路里,所以这种组合可以被认为是健康和美味的。”)”可知,黑咖啡包子套餐卖得好是因为它既美味又健康,故选B。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中““Consumers and even cultural heritage will also benefit from the increased competition. If not for the current trend which has revived interest in certain traditional dim sum, these foods could soon be lost to history,” Shen said.(沈说,“消费者乃至文化遗产也将受益于竞争的加剧。如果不是当前的趋势重新唤起了人们对某些传统点心的兴趣,这些食品可能很快就会消失在历史中。”)”可推知,如果没有套餐组合的出现,一些传统食品可能会消失,故选D。 【7题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第二段中“To satisfy this growing demand for breakfast sets that combine elements from the East and the West, food companies have been rolling out (推出) a host of new offerings to attract the customer.(为了满足日益增长的对融合了东西方元素的早餐套餐的需求,食品公司已经推出了一系列新产品来吸引顾客。)” C。 C Birders get nervous when they see landscapes covered in wind turbines (涡轮机). When the wind gets going, their blades (叶片) can turn around at well over 200km per hour. It is easy to imagine careless birds getting cut into pieces and wind turbines do indeed kill at least some birds. But a new analysis of American data suggests the numbers are negligible, and have little impact on bird populations. Erik Katovich, an economist at the University of Geneva, made use of the Christmas BirdCount, a citizen-science project run by the National Audubon Society. Volunteers count birds they spot over Christmas, and the society gathers the numbers. He assumed, reasonably, that if wind turbines harmed bird populations, the numbers seen in the Christmas Bird Count would drop in places where new turbines had been built. Combining bird population and species maps with the locations and construction dates of all wind turbines, he found building turbines had no noticeable effect on bird populations. Instead of limiting his analysis to wind power alone, he also examined oil-and-gas extraction (开采), which has boomed in America over the past couple of decades. Comparing bird populations to the locations of new gas wells revealed an average 15% drop in bird numbers when new wells were drilled, probably due to a combination of noise, air pollution and the disturbance of rivers and ponds that many birds rely upon. When drilling happened in migration centers, feeding grounds or breeding locations, bird numbers instead dropped by 25%. Wind power, in other words, not only produces far less planet-heating carbon dioxide and methane than do fossil fuels. It appears to be significantly less damaging to wildlife, too. Yet that is not the impression you would get from reading the news. Dr Katovich found 173 stories in major American news media reporting the supposed negative effects that wind turbines had on birds in 2020, compared with only 46 stories discussing the effects of oil-and-gas wells. 8. What does the underlined word“negligible”in paragraph 1 mean? A. Insignificant. B. Inaccurate. C. Inconsistent. D. Indefinite. 9. What is Dr Katovich's conclusion based on? A. Previous studies. B. Relevant data. C. Reasonable prediction. D. Experiment results. 10. What message does paragraph 3 mainly try to convey? A. Oil-and-gas extraction has expanded in America. B. Birds are heavily dependent on rivers and ponds. C. Many factors lead to the decline of bird populations. D. Well drilling poses a serious threat to birds' survival. 11. Which of the following may Dr Katovich agree with? A. Wind turbines could share the sky with wildlife. B More evidence is needed to confirm the finding. C. Wind power will be substituted for fossil fuels. D. Wind turbines deserve wider media coverage. A 9. B 10. D 11. 根据划线单词前的“a new analysis of American data suggests the numbers(但一项对美国数据的新分析表明)”以及划线单词后的“and have little impact on bird populations.(并且对鸟类种群的影响很小。)” 故选A项。 根据第二段中的“Erik Katovich, an economist at the University of Geneva, made use of the Christmas Bird Count, a citizen-science project run by the National Audubon Society.(日内瓦大学的经济学家埃里克·卡托维奇(Erik Katovich)利用了圣诞鸟类统计,这是一个由美国国家奥杜邦协会(National Audubon Society)运营的公民科学项目。)” 根据第三段“Comparing bird populations to the locations of new gas wells revealed an average 15% drop in bird numbers when new wells were drilled, probably due to a combination of noise, air pollution and the disturbance of rivers and ponds that many birds rely upon. When drilling happened in migration centers, feeding grounds or breeding locations, bird numbers instead dropped by 25%.(将鸟类数量与新气井的位置进行比较发现,当新气井钻探时,鸟类数量平均下降了15%,这可能是由于噪音、空气污染以及鸟类赖以生存的河流和池塘的干扰。当钻探发生在迁徙中心、觅食地或繁殖地时,鸟类数量反而下降了25%。)”可知,油气钻探造成了鸟类数量的减少,由此可以推断,油气钻探给鸟类的生存带来了严重的威胁。故选D项。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据尾段中的“It appears to be significantly less damaging to wildlife, too(它对野生动物的伤害似乎也要小得多。)” 故选A项。 D A new study says that no matter how much the world cuts back on carbon emissions, a large and important part of Antarctica is expected to disappear. The study focused on the melting of protective ice around Antarctica’s Amundsen Sea in western Antarctica. They said the “unavoidable” melting will take hundreds of years, resulting in a rise of nearly 1.8 meters in sea levels. This melting will have a profound impact on where and how people live in the future. The study, published in Nature Climate Change, warns that even if future warming was limited to just a few tenths of a degree more, it would have “limited power to prevent ocean warming that could lead to the collapse of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet.” The lead writer of the study, Kaitlin Naughten, explains that the research indicates that the Earth is on a path towards rapid ocean warming and ice shelf melting over the coming century. While past studies have talked about how serious the situation is, Naughten was the first to use computer modeling to study how warm water from below will melt the ice. The study looked at four different cases in how much carbon emissions the world produces. ln each case, ocean warming was just too much for this area of the ice to survive. It also looked at what would happen if future warming was limited to 1.5 degrees Celsius over mid-19th century levels: the international goal. They found the runaway melting process in this case as well. The study primarily focuses on the part of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet that is most at risk of melting near the Amundsen Sea, including the Thwaites ice shelf, often referred to as the “Doomsday Glacier”. According to Eric Rignot, an ice scientist at the University of California Irvine, this area is already “doomed” (注定的) due to the rapid melting that has occurred. Naughten does not like to use the word “doomed”, because she said 100 years from now, the world might not just stop but drive back carbon levels in the air and climate change. But she said what is happening now on the ground is a slow collapse that cannot be stopped, at least not in this century. 12. According to the study, what will be the consequence of the “unavoidable” melting of ice? A. A fast collapse of the West Antarctica. B. A rise in sea levels to at least 1.8 meters. C. A change of people’s living places and life. D. A significant reduction in carbon emissions. 13. What is special about Naughten’s research? A. Explaining why the Earth is on a path towards rapid ocean warming. B. Adopting computer modeling to study the possibility of ice survival. C. Finding the runaway melting process in the fourth case of ocean warming. D. Comparing four cases in how much carbon emissions the world produces. 14. What would Naughten most probably agree with? A. Ice shelf melting is unstoppable at least in the century. B. The word “doomed” accurately describes the situation. C. Carbon levels will never reach the international goal. D. Past studied didn’t show how serious the situation is. 15. What is the purpose of the text? A. To explain the impact of carbon emissions on Antarctica. B. To share the findings of a new study on Antarctic ice melting. C. To analyze the potential consequences of rapid ocean warming. D. To call for immediate action to prevent the Antarctic ice melting. C 13. B 14. A 15. 根据第二段中的“They said the “unavoidable” melting will take hundreds of years, resulting in a rise of nearly 1.8 meters in sea levels. This melting will have a profound impact on where and how people live in the future.(他们说,“不可避免的”融化将需要数百年的时间,导致海平面上升近1.8米。这种融化将对人们未来的生活地点和方式产生深远的影响)”可知,根据这项研究,“不可避免”的冰融化的后果将是人们生活场所和生活的改变。故选C。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中的“While past studies have talked about how serious the situation is, Naughten was the first to use computer modeling to study how warm water from below will melt the ice.(虽然过去的研究已经讨论了情况有多严重,但诺顿是第一个使用计算机建模来研究来自地下的温水将如何融化冰的人)”可知,诺顿的研究特别之处在于采用计算机建模来研究冰存活的可能性。 根据最后一段中的“But she said what is happening now on the ground is a slow collapse that cannot be stopped, at least not in this century.(但是她说,目前正在发生的情况是一种缓慢的崩溃,无法阻止,至少在本世纪无法阻止)”可推知,诺顿很可能会同意冰架融化至少在本世纪内是不可阻挡的。故选A。 根据第一段中的“A new study says that no matter how much the world cuts back on carbon emissions, a large and important part of Antarctica is expected to disappear.(一项新的研究表明,无论世界减少多少碳排放,南极洲的一大片重要地区预计都会消失)”及下文介绍可知,文章主要介绍了一个新的研究发现,无论人们怎么减少碳排放,南极洲的一大片重要区域预计都会消失。 Challenges are part of life and something we can all expect to encounter at one point or another during our lifetime. The reason why some issues prove challenging for us is that we aren’t familiar with them. ___18___ The internet, books, forums, etc. , offer platforms where we can research and learn about our challenges to find strategies against them. Knowledge is definitely powerful and essential in conquering anything. Be persistent. This is what is required to accomplish anything, especially when it comes to overcoming challenges. No matter how difficult our challenges might be, we must be willing to push through and try again and again until we achieve victory over them. ___19___ Ask for help. There are times when we can’t go it alone and need others to help us conquer whatever challenges we face. ___20___ Networking with like-minded individuals who can offer us support, suggestions, and solutions is useful in helping us overcome challenges. A. Meet them head-on. B. Adapt a different strategy. C. It is said that two heads are better than one. D. If we give up, we allow the challenges to conquer us instead. E. Therefore, our knowledge and ability to conquer them is limited. F. Whatever our positions, we all wish to conquer them and move on. G. Some challenges can be overwhelming, making us question our ability to overcome them. F 17. A 18. E 19. D 20. 【16题详解】 根据上文“We handle challenges differently; some of us choose to face them head-on, while others flee in uncertainty.”(我们应对挑战的方式各有不同;我们中的一些人选择拥抱并正面面对它们,而另一些人则在不确定中逃离。)根据下文“The following are simple methods and strategies we can all employ to overcome challenges more effectively.”(下面是一些简单的方法和策略,我们都可以用来更有效地克服挑战。) 【17题详解】 根据下文“Nike couldn’t have said it any better with their slogan, “Just do it!” Some challenges require us to do just that. Grab the bull by its horns and have the courage to conquer it, no matter how unsure we might feel. Some challenges are urgent and require immediate attention, leaving us with no option but to go ahead full-steam.”(耐克用他们的口号“Just do it! ”来表达这一点再好不过了。有些挑战要求我们这样做。无论我们感觉多么不确定,请迎难而上,勇敢征服困难。有些挑战是紧迫的,需要立即关注,我们别无选择,只能全力以赴。)由此可知,该段主要讲述A选项“直面挑战”。故选A项。 【18题详解】 根据上文“The reason why some issues prove challenging for us is that we aren’t familiar with them.”(有些问题对我们来说具有挑战性的原因是我们不熟悉它们。) 【19题详解】 根据上文“No matter how difficult our challenges might be, we must be willing to push through and try again and again until we achieve victory over them.”(无论挑战有多么困难,我们都必须愿意坚持下去,一次又一次地尝试,直到取得胜利。) 【20题详解】 根据上文“There are times when we can’t go it alone and need others to help us conquer whatever challenges we face.”(有时我们无法独自应对,需要他人来帮助我们克服所面临的任何挑战。) A man in California survived a five-hour night swim, thanks to the ____21____ of a friendly seal (海豹). Flashes from cameras lit up in all directions. The applause filled my ears. I had done it. I had really done it. Just a few months earlier, I would never have pictured myself acting in a play in front of two hundred people. “Not for a million dollars,” I would have said. But when the time came, I got up on stage and faced one of my greatest fears and discovered I could do more than I ever gave myself credit for. If not for my teacher, Mrs Sather, I might never have made it. In the first and second grade, I was extremely shy. I had friends, but it just wasn’t in my personality to be very outgoing, even when I knew someone well. I was afraid I would do or say something wrong, so usually I just smiled and listened to other people’s conversations. I did well in school and I loved to write. However, I would escape into my writing, where I could be myself and never had to worry about what other people thought of me. In my stories, I was never shy. My teacher Mrs Sather, always encouraged me to write more. She told our class to go after our dreams and dig in with both hands. One day, she announced that our class was going to perform a play she had written. “I’ll begin to cast everyone tomorrow,” she said. “I need someone who is not afraid to be on stage in front of a lot of people to play the lead part of Dorothy. Anybody want to try?” A few excited hands shot up — mine, of course, was not one of them — and Mrs Sather smiled. “We’ll talk more about it tomorrow,” she said. Then the bell rang and my classmates slowly left the classroom. When I was loading up my backpack, Mrs Sather asked me to go to her. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Hearing Mrs Sather’s words, I realized it was time to make a change. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】When I was loading up my backpack, Mrs Sather asked me to go to her. With doubt, I came up to her. Giving me a meaningful look, she asked gently, “Why didn’t you raise your hand?” Hanging my head and staring at the ground, I did not know how to respond. Mrs Sather continued, “I know your inner strength clearly by reading the stories you wrote about. I would love you to give this a try.” I was so shocked that I raised my head, eyes wide open. She smiled heartily. “Just make yourself fully prepared.” Hearing Mrs Sather’s words, I realized it was time to make a change. After getting home, I read the play carefully several times, and the figure of Dorothy gradually appeared in my mind. The next day, when Mrs Sather cast the characters, I lifted up my hand quickly and firmly. After we presented the ideas and lines, she announced that I would be the one to play the lead part. Overwhelmed with joy, I got involved in rehearsal in no time. A. take part in the discussions B. post questions on each module C. copy the PDF version of the content D. answer all the test questions correctly B For many Chinese consumers, a satisfying breakfast is one that includes either hot porridge or steamed buns (馒头). D People prefer porridge and steamed buns. 5. Why does the set of the steamed vegetable bun with black coffee sell well? A. Because it’s traditional. B. Because it’s tasty and healthy. C. Because it’s newly created. D. Because it contains more vegetables. 6. What can be inferred from Shen’s words in the last paragraph? A. Western food companies dislike East-West breakfast. B. Big companies have the ability to seize the market share. C The competition for breakfast sets is of no benefit to consumers. C Birders get nervous when they see landscapes covered in wind turbines (涡轮机). B. More evidence is needed to confirm the finding. C. Wind power will be substituted for fossil fuels. D. Wind turbines deserve wider media coverage. D A new study says that no matter how much the world cuts back on carbon emissions, a large and important part of Antarctica is expected to disappear. 14 What would Naughten most probably agree with? Challenges are part of life and something we can all expect to encounter at one point or another during our lifetime. My teacher, Mrs Sather, always encouraged me to write more. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 听力答案:1-5 BACCB 6-10 CBACC 11-15 ABAAB 16-20 AABBC 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
