You must have read or heard of the sad love story between Jia Baoyu and Lin Daiyu. But can you imagine the

Jia and Lin are two characters from the classic Chinese novel A Dream of Red Mansions(《红楼梦》),written by Cao Xueqin(1715-1763).Now the book has been made into an English-language opera. After being performed
in San Francisco,US,the performance came to Beijing,Changsha and Wuhan in 2017.
Many of the opera's creators have backgrounds in both Chinese and American cultures, including the director and playwrights.Their understanding of both cultures helped them change a Chinese classic into a
foreign-language opera.
The book, which covers the rise and fall of the Jia family, has 120 chapters and hundreds of characters. But opera writer David Henry Hwang cut down the number of characters to just seven.Hwang,a Chinese-American, focused on the love story between Jia and Lin and tried to write a heartbroking tragedy that everyone would
understand.
The art director Timmy Yip,from Hong Kong, tried to help foreign people understand the characters using
costumes and stage settings. He compared Lin to water and gave her a light green costume. When Lin showed up
on stage, there was usually water around her on the stage.

If someone sends you an animal as a gift, are you going to be happy? What if they send you tens of thousands
of them?Botswana's President Mokgweetsi Masisi is sending 20,000 elephants to Germany as a threat.
Recently,Germany criticized Botswana for allowing trophy(战利品)hunting, which means the shooting of big animals such as elephants, big cats and bears for one's pleasure.Masisi felt angry about this and suggested that
Germans should experience living among elephants.
Masisi said that Botswana has too many elephants. The number of elephants in the country has grown to about 130,000.The elephants are damaging people's property(财产),eating their crops and stepping on people.
As Masisi told a German newspaper called Bild, hunting is an important way to control the number of elephants. In fact,Botswana stopped allowing trophy hunting in 2014,but in 2019,they allowed it again because
of pressure from people living there. Now,the country gives out a 400-elephant permit for hunting each year.
Germany is one of the biggest countries in the European Union for importing hunting trophies, which include their body parts.Earlier this year,Germany talked about making the rules stricter for the import of hunting trophies
because they are worried about illegal hunting.
“In light of the alarming loss of biological diversity,we have a special responsibility to do everything to make sure the import of hunting trophies is sustainable and legal,"a spokesperson for the environment ministry in Berlin
told AFP.
Mary Rice, executive director of the NGO Environmental Investigation Agency, told CNN that Masisi's words are a“rather empty threat”.But the disagreement shows wider issues around trophy hunting, according to
Rice.
“Regardless of whether you are for or against hunting as a conservation tool, the hunting industry —as that is what it is —needs to get its house in order,"she said. She also said that the rules on hunting aren't very clear,
and that some people might not follow the rules.
23.What was the main reason behind Masisi's decision to send 20,000 elephants to Germany?
A.To encourage Germans to allow trophy hunting.
B.To show Botswana's wildlife preservation efforts.
C.To address Botswana's elephant overpopulation issue.
D.To answer Germany's criticism of trophy hunting in Botswana.
24.What caused Botswana to bring back trophy hunting in 2019?
A.Demands from local people.
B.Economic pressure from other countries.
C.A reduction in Botswana's elephant population.
D.Increased profits ffom exporting hunting trophies.
25.What is Germany's attitude toward importing hunting trophies, according to the text? A.It should be stopped.
B.It holds great economic value.
C.It helps keep nature in check.
D.It requires stricter regulation.
26.What does the underlined phrase “get its house in order”in the last paragraph most likely mean?
A.Reach an agreement.
B.Fix one's own problems.
C.Follow the proper rules.
D.Take advantage of useful tools.

stands for,”he wrote on his X account.
TikTok plans to challenge the legislation, arguing that it violates users'First Amendment rights (《宪法第一修
