☆☆☆Question in June: What do you often do after class?
Linda from Britain
I often use old clothes that people don’t wear any more to make bags. I opened a small shop in my community and set up a website to sell the bags online. Many customers think they are fantastic. Now I plan to write a new book about ways to use old clothes.

Museums often teach me a lot. I have ever been to many museums, such as the ones in Harbin and Xi’an. But the Hangzhou National Tea Museum is my favourite. It’s in this museum that I knew about the history of tea. I watched the tea art performances(表演). They showed how to make a perfect cup of tea with tea sets.
Amy from Canada
I often cook Chinese food at home. My favourite is Yunnan Rice Noodles. To make the food, we need to have rice noodles, chicken soup, chicken, vegetables and eggs. My parents often cook Chinese food as well, especially gongbao chicken.

Jonny, a 15-year-old student, is checking his dad’s old jacket. He says,
“You’re 45. Dad, you’re never going to wear this again. Can I have it?”
Keith has had a bad day at work, and he is feeling old. And Jonny has hit his
pain. Keith raises his voice and says, “What? You mean I’m too old to wear the
jacket again?”
Jonny feels like this has come out of nowhere, and now he feels hurt. “But I

Have you ever had a similar argument with the people around you? Here are
some tips for you to remember when you’re getting mad.
● Accept your feelings and consider the other person’s feelings. That means not
always making yourself “right” or “clever” and the other person “wrong” or
“stupid”.
● Explain yourself and not the other person, so you can speak out your ideas by
starting with “I” but not “You”.
● Don’t always have to reflect before reacting(回应). If you feel angry, I
think it’s a good idea to stop a moment and understand why.
●Don’t decide the purpose of the other person by your guessing. Try to work out
what he or she is feeling, and admit(承认) it if you were wrong.
Don’t forget that it’s never too late to start the ways of communicating.

Knowing how to communicate well needs very personal attention between you and
another person, and we should face it. Is there a better way to learn how to
communicate successfully? Yes, there is. Please follow the basic steps below.
Relax and breathe.
Whether it’s a business meeting or a first date, the first thing you must do in
order to communicate is to relax.
When you relax, you are in control. You control your reactions and your
reactions do not control you. Breathing is central to relaxation. Take a few deep breaths
and your body will begin to be more relaxed. This will help use what you have already
known about how to communicate well.

Think and you will be prepared.
Have you heard the old saying, “Think before you speak.” Well, it rings
true. By thinking ahead about how the conversation might flow(流畅), you will be
better prepared, more relaxed and more confident.
Follow the flow of the conversation.
If you are uncomfortable, being silent will only make it worse and make the
other person uncomfortable as well. So when all else fails, you should follow through
with small talks until a common topic appears.

conversation going, thinking very highly of you.Learning good communication skills

In 1997, 12-year-old American girl Caitlin and 14-year-old Zimbabwean(津巴
布韦人) Martin became pen friends through their schools. They didn’t realize at that
time how their handwritten letters would change their lives.
It all began as a school task. Everyone in Caitlin’s class was supposed to choose a
pen friend from another country. All the other kids picked countries like France or
Germany, but Caitlin chose Zimbabwe because the name sounded exotic(异国风
情) and cool.
Martin lived with his family in one of Zimbabwe’s worst slums(贫民窟) where
they shared one room with another family. And a bed was their only piece of furniture.

When Caitlin’s first letters reached Martin, they were simple and general. The
two kids wrote about their favourite music and what they liked to do. But as Martin
gradually revealed more about his life and his letters started arriving written on pieces
of rubbish, Caitlin realized what the living conditions were like for Martin. Without
telling her parents, she began sending money with her letters—$20 at a time. While
the money was not much to Caitlin, it meant more food for Martin’s family and
enabled him to pay his school fees.
It lasted six years from their first exchange of letters to Martin’s arrival in the
United States. With the help of the money from Caitlin’s parents later on, Martin
finished his university and got his MBA from Duke University.

Most teenagers feel sad or afraid when their parents fight. They might think their
parents don’t love each other any more.
In fact,it is normal for parents to disagree and argue sometimes. They might
disagree about important things like jobs and family decisions. They might even
disagree about little things that don’t seem important at all—like what’s for
dinner.Maybe sometimes parents feel so strongly about their differences that it may lead
to arguments. However, these arguments are often over quickly.Parents may say sorry
and make up, and the family returns to normal.

As a family member, you should find out what it really means when your parents
fight. When your parents get angry with each other, they might say things they don’t
really mean. If your parents are fighting, don’t worry too much about it. Try to find a
good way to solve it.
If your parents’ fighting really bothers you, you might find it hard to sleep or get
to school. If this happens, try talking to your parents. They may not even realize it until
you tell them how their fighting has influenced you.You can also tell other relatives, a
teacher or a close friend.
Just remember that no family is perfect and arguments are common in every

Dear Mary,
Thank you for your last e-mail. Let me tell you what we did on 12th March.
It was fine on March 12. I got up early that day. All the students in our
school went to the West Hill to plant trees. We arrived at the hill at 8 o’clock. The
teacher asked each of us to plant at least two trees. Then we started digging,
planting and watering. Someone dug the pits, someone put trees in them and
others watered the trees. We worked together so that we could finish our tasks
ahead of time. Looking at the lines of the young trees, we smiled happily,
forgetting our tiredness. We should love trees. They are also the guardians of the
world.
