一、before,as与after引导的时间状语从句
before,as与after都可作连词,引导时间状语从句。before意为“在……以
前”,泛指以前,可与完成时连用;as意为“随着……;当……时”,引导时间
状语从句,侧重于主句与从句的动作同时进行;after意为“在……之后”,引导
时间状语从句时,当从句的主语与主句的主语一致,而从句中的谓语又是主动语
态时,可以用动名词形式对从句进行省略。例如:
They finished their homework before going out to play.
他们在出去玩之前完成了家庭作业。
The meeting started after all the participants had arrived.
所有参与者都到齐后,会议开始了。
He smiled as he stood up.
他一边站起来一边微笑。
He left the classroom after he had finished his homework yesterday.=He left the
classroom after finishing his homework yesterday.
昨天他做完作业之后离开了教室。
【注意】当主句是一般将来时、祈使句和含有情态动词的句子时,从句只能用一
般现在时。例如:
I will call you as soon as I get home.
我一到家就给你打电话。
二、who,that引导的定语从句
在复合句中,修饰某一名词或代词的从句叫定语从句。被修饰的名词或代词
叫先行词,定语从句放在先行词之后,从句由关系代词或关系副词引导,关系词
放在先行词和从句之间。who,whom,that为关系代词,当先行词为人时,用
who,whom或that引导,若先行词在句中作主语则用who或that;若先行词在句中
作宾语则用whom,who或that;that引导定语从句可以修饰无生命的事物,也可以
修饰有生命的动物或人。若先行词既有人又有物,则只能用that引导。例如:
He is a man whom we should all learn from.
他是一个我们都应当学习的人。
Who is the girl that talked to you yesterday?
昨天和你说话的女孩儿是谁?
The photos that I took on my trip are on the desk.
我在旅行时拍的照片在桌子上。
