I had a frightening and exciting experience last Thursday night. After finishing my
homework, I was going to bed.Just then, I heard the sound of footsteps outside my
door.I wondered who it could be.It couldn’t be my father or my mother, because they
had gone to their friend’s party. They said they would come back home late.Who’s
that? Perhaps it could be my neighbor. He may have come back home from work.He
always works late in the office.I said to myself,“Be brave! There’s nothing to be
worried about.” Then I opened the door and all my friends were there saying “Happy
birthday”!How excited I was!

We had an exam yesterday and now the papers are being handed out. There
is a paper without a name on it.Its mark is full.Who can it belong to?
The paper may belong to a girl because its handwriting is very tidy. There
are only three girls who are good at handwriting—Rose,Lisa and Lucy.It might
belong to Rose, but I’m not sure because she is not so good at English. It can’t be
Lisa’s.Although she does well in English, she has already had hers in hand.
So it must belong to Lucy.Today she is ill at home and she does well in
English,too.

There are two of the world’s most amazing volcanoes(火山) in it.One is among
the most active volcanoes on the earth, the other is one of the biggest mountains on
the earth. Both of them are active volcanoes.Every day, on the island of Hawaii, lava
(熔岩) comes out slowly from a volcano on the edge(边缘) of the ocean. When
the lava cools, it turns into rock and makes this island a little bigger.Visitors can see
the land change before their eyes.
There are many interesting things to do in the park.It has lava tubes(隧道) that
go to the sea. They are so big that visitors can walk through them. You can drive along a
volcano or walk more than 150 miles(241 km) of trails(路径).Biking along the
volcano’s paths and camping in the rainforest are also good choices.

The Hanging Gardens of Babylon were built in the 7th century BC and are
considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The Hanging Gardens of
Babylon were amazing not only because of their beauty, but also because of their
location.
In the 7th century BC a king named Nebudchadnezzar Ⅱ created the gardens as a
sign of love for his wife,Amyitis.According to the legend, Amyitis, the daughter
of the king of the Medes, was homesick. She missed the green hills and valleys of her
homeland.

Upon marrying NebudchadnezzarⅡ,Amyitis moved to the ancient chief city of
Babylon. The area was in the Mesopotamian desert, and the climate there was totally
different from where she had left.So the new queen was very sad about the flat and the
sun-baked desert. To make Amyitis happier and more comfortable, the king decided to
build her a series of magnificent gardens.
Many think of the gardens as an otherworldly creation that hung in the air
somehow. But experts agree that the gardens were actually built on a mountainside,
rather than actually “hanging”.

Hanging Gardens of Babylon is amazing. They were essentially impossible to be created
because of the climate, but they were kept in the minds of many as a botanical beauty
created in the middle of unattractive desert scenery.
