Often built by community members, they could be found on street corners and the sidewalks across the United States, hoping to share their book collections with their neighbors. Minneapolis, Minnesota, even hosted the first Little Free Library Festival, where book fans came together to promote literacy (读写能力)in their communities. For the most part, little free libraries have more in common with book sharing shelves in hotels, local parks, coffee shops and other public spaces than the traditional public library. Based on the rule of "take a book, leave a book," these little libraries can take many forms from birdhouse-like wooden structures to redesigned newspaper selling machines, Robert Wirsing writes for the Bronx Times. The little free library organization began when a citizen of Hudson, Wisconsin, named Todd Bol built a little one-room schoolhouse, filled it with books and placed it in his front yard to honor his mother who passed away in 2009. Together with a local educator named Rick Brooks, the two began placing little free libraries across Wisconsin and sharing the idea with people across the country. "Something we are eager for in this information age is that connection between people," Bol tells Margret Aldrich for Book Riot. "I want to show how Little Free Library is about readers inspiring readers. It goes on and on." While Little Free Libraries seem like a harmless means to promote literacy by sharing books with neighbors, a few of the roadside landing libraries have caused minor legal problems. officials in Los Angeles and Shreveport, Louisiana, have told some citizens that their homemade libraries broke city roles and that they would have to remove them to avoid being fined. Still, little free libraries have been well accepted by their commnunities. For anyone interested in making their own at home, the organization has posted helpful tips and guides for building the little book lending boxes in their neighborhoods. 4. What can we know about the little free libraries in America? A. They are state-owned. B. They are popular nationally. C. They are set up to sell books. D. They help those with no books to read. 5. What is a common character of little free libraries? A. They lie in many public places. B. They share a large collection of books. C. They compete with traditional public libraries. D. They exist mainly in the form of wooden houses. 6. What is Todd Bol's primary aim of building a library? A. To remember his dead mother. B. To help people form a habit of reading. C. To set an example to other communities. D. To share his knowledge, with other citizens. 7. What does Todd Bol think of the little free libraries? A. They cause minor legal problems. B. They should continue to exist. C. They mean a lot to community members. D. They should be supported by the government. B 5. A 6. A 7. 通读全文可知,文章主要介绍人们通过小型免费图书馆和邻居们分享他们的藏书,一起提高读写能力,特别是根据最后一段“Still, little free libraries have been well accepted by their commnunities. ”(尽管如此,小型免费图书馆被社区所广泛接受)可知,小型免费图书馆得到了人们的一致认可(广受欢迎)。故选B。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“For the most part, little free libraries have more in common with book sharing shelves in hotels, local parks, coffee shops and other public spaces than the traditional public library.”(在很大程度上,与传统的公共图书馆相比,小型免费图书馆与酒店、当地公园、咖啡馆和其他公共场所的图书共享书架有更多的共同点)可知,小型免费图书馆的共同特征是位于公共场所,故选A。 根据第三段“The little free library organization began when a citizen of Hudson, Wisconsin, named Todd Bol built a little one-room schoolhouse, filled it with books and placed it in his front yard to honor his mother who passed away in 2009. ”(这个小型免费图书馆组织始于威斯康星州哈德逊市的一位名叫托德·波尔的公民建造的一所只有一个房间的小屋,里面装满了书,并放在自家前院,以纪念2009年去世的母亲)可知,托德·波尔建造了一个小房间的小屋,里面装满了书,并把它放在他的前院,以此纪念他在2009年去世的母亲。故选A。 根据第四段“Something we are eager for in this information age is that connection between people”(在这个信息时代,我们渴望的是人与人之间的联系)可知,小型免费图书馆使人与人互相联系,所以对社区成员来说意义重大。故选C。 C For many Americans, home is where the heart is. However, some people are forced to leave their homes because of rising costs. “Hawaii is everything. Of course, it’s very beautiful. The weather is beautiful, but you only get a deeper connection to a place when it’s connected to you,” said Lehua Kalima, who grew up and raised her kids in Hawaii. Nearly three years ago, Kalima and her husband left the Hawaiian islands for Clark County, Nevada. According to United Van Lines, the US’s largest household goods mover, Clark County has about 20,000 native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders. The Kalimas represent some of the 7 million Americans who move to a different state every year. “You know, we were already working really hard to make ends meet, but with three college tuitions (学费) now to pay, it was almost impossible,” Kalima said. United Van Lines has long tracked state-to-state migration (移居), as well as the main reasons people move. In 2018, nearly half of the people surveyed said they moved due to changes in employment. Four years later, a third of respondents said employment was the reason they moved. A rising number said they wanted to be close to family, and 8% stated a reason that three years earlier wasn’t even on the survey — the improved cost of living. “If you have roots in a place, you have a relationship with a place, with a piece of land, only then can you really understand what it’s like to have to go away from it,” Kalima said. Despite missing her home, Kalima looks at the other side of things. “The things we do in life don’t necessarily keep us in one place. Sometimes they take us to all kinds of different places, but that’s necessary because, you know, that’ll take us to where we’re eventually supposed to be,” Kalima said. 8. What was the Kalimas’ life like before moving to Nevada? A. They had nowhere to live. B. They lived beyond their means. C. Kalima and her husband lost their jobs. D. Kalima’s children failed to get into college. 9. What do the numbers in paragraph 5 mainly show? A. The effects of state-to-state migration. B. The change of American family connections. C. The reasons for people moving to other states. D. The connection between employment and migration. 10. What feeling did Kalima express in paragraph 6? A. Her pain of being away from home. B. Her worries about her life in Nevada. C. Her fear of being misunderstood by others. D. Her dissatisfaction with new social relationships. 11. What is Kalima’s attitude to life? A. Doubtful. B. Passive. C. Uninterested. D. Positive. B 9. C 10. A 11. 根据第四段的内容“‘You know, we were already working really hard to make ends meet, but with three college tuitions (学费) now to pay, it was almost impossible,’ Kalima said.(‘你知道,我们已经非常努力地工作以维持收支平衡,但现在要支付三所大学的学费,这几乎是不可能的,’Kalima说)”可知,Kalima说她家经济困难,入不敷出。make ends meet“使收支相抵,勉强维持生计”;beyond one’s means“入不敷出”。 根据第六段的内容“‘If you have roots in a place, you have a relationship with a place, with a piece of land, only then can you really understand what it’s like to have to go away from it,’ Kalima said.(‘如果你在一个地方扎了根,你和一个地方、一块土地有了关系,只有这样你才能真正理解不得不离开的感觉。’Kalima说)”可知,Kalima说只有和一个地方有深厚情感的人,才能真正理解不得不离开它的感觉,表达了她不得不远离家乡的痛苦心情。故选A。 根据倒数第二段“Despite missing her home, Kalima looks at the other side of things.(尽管想念她的家,但Kalima看到了事情的另一面)”和最后一段“‘The things we do in life don’t necessarily keep us in one place. Sometimes they take us to all kinds of different places, but that’s necessary because, you know, that’ll take us to where we’re eventually supposed to be,’ Kalima said.(‘我们在生活中所做的事情不一定会让我们停留在一个地方。有时他们带我们去各种不同的地方,但这是必要的,因为,你知道,这将把我们带到我们最终应该去的地方,’ Kalima说)”可知,Kalima尽管思念家乡,但她认为,生活中的一些变化导致我们去不同的地方,这是必要的,因为它会带我们去我们最终该去的地方,由此推断,Kalima对生活抱着积极的态度。故选D。 D Due to social events in recent years, the relationship between social media and teenagers mental health has been under heated discussion. On Sept 30 a British court decided that content on social media platforms contributed to the depression of 14-year-old Molly Russell. Russell interacted with 2,100 posts related to pessimistic, self-harm in the six months, leading up to her depression, reported the Observer website. The correlation has also been proved by science. A study in 2019 showed that the frequent use of social media by teenagers can lead to a decrease in their mental health. So, how can we make sure that teenagers won’t get hurt while using social media? Chan, 18, from the University of Macao shared her experience. Chan said that she once came across short videos romanticizing mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety. She immediately reported them to the platform. But she said that the users’ power to regulate videos is still limited. “It is ultimately the responsibility of the social media platforms to filter out content that is potentially harmful.” She also noticed that the age of social media users has become increasingly younger. Society should pay attention to this, she said. “Since it’s not possible to cut off access to social media for younger users, why not introduce a ‘supervision mode’ with which parents can regulate the content to be viewed by teenagers beforehand?” she said. Wu Chengyu, 18, studies at Tianjin Experimental High School. He said that several years ago he came across a game that lures teenagers to self-abuse and depression. He quickly chose to ignore it so he wouldn’t be influenced. This is the same way he reacts when exposed to negative content on social media. In Wu’s opinion, teenagers today should improve their social media literacy (素养), telling real from fake and good from bad. “Also, everyone can be a content creator on social media.” he said, “We should all strengthen our awareness of ethics”. 12. What led to Russell’s depression according to a British court? A. Her interaction with others online. B. Negative information on social media platforms. C. Short videos she watched on the Internet. D. Her addiction to online posts. 13. Which of the following statements does Chan probably agree with? A. The number of younger Social media users should be limited. B. Parents should monitor the content to be viewed by teenagers in advance. C. A supervision mode ought to be introduced by parents. D. It is the responsibility of the society to romanticize mental illnesses. 14. Who should be ultimately responsible for removing negative content according to Chan? A. Parents. B. Social media platforms C. Content creators. D. Social media platforms. 15. What does Wu suggest teenagers should do? A. Use social media wisely. B. Reduce social media usage. C. Stay away from online games. D. Learn more about social media. B 13. B 14. D 15. 根据第二段中“Russell interacted with 2,100 posts related to pessimistic, self-harm in the six months, leading up to her depression, reported the Observer website. (据《观察家报》网站报道,在Russell患上抑郁症的6个月里,她浏览了2100条有关悲观、自残的帖子。)”可知,是因为社交媒体平台上的负面信息导致了她的抑郁症。故选B。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段中“Since it’s not possible to cut off access to social media for younger users, why not introduce a ‘supervision mode’ with which parents can regulate the content to be viewed by teenagers beforehand? (既然不可能切断年轻用户对社交媒体的访问,为什么不引入一种“监督模式”,父母可以事先监管青少年观看的内容?)”可知,她认为家长应该提前监控青少年观看的内容。故选B。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段中“It is ultimately the responsibility of the social media platforms to filter out content that is potentially harmful. (过滤掉可能有害的内容,最终是社交媒体平台的责任。)”可知,她认为社交媒体平台应该最终负责删除负面内容。故选D。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“In Wu’s opinion, teenagers today should improve their social media literacy(素养), telling real from fake and good from bad. (在Wu看来,今天的青少年应该提高他们的社交媒体素养,辨别真假和好坏。)”可知,Wu建议青少年应该理智使用社交媒体。故选A。 Have you ever tried reading music? If so, you probably noticed a lot of new symbols and words. Maybe you saw the word presto at the beginning. Perhaps you read piano and crescendo throughout the song. _____16_____ Or maybe you didn’t — if you knew how to read Italian! Italian is sometimes called the language that sings. _____17_____ However, the link between Italian and music is deeper than that. Today, musical vocabulary is full of Italian words. However, it wasn’t always so. Thousands of years ago, people didn’t write music. Instead, they passed songs down orally and taught each other to play them on instruments. _____18_____ Later, people in Spain and Italy began putting music to paper for use in church choirs Around 1000 CE, an Italian man named Guido d’ Arezzo came up with the four-lined staff (四线谱), which eventually led to the development of the five-lined staff still used in modern music today. Over the next few centuries, many of the people writing music were Italian. Of course, people in other parts of the world were writing music, too. In an effort to standardize written music, many of them used Italian terms. _____19_____ For example, Beethoven sometimes used German words instead of Italian. Claude Debussy used French in “Clair de Lune”. _____20_____ You might already be familiar with some terms! One example is tempo — the speed of a piece of music. Markings in written music tell the player when the music should be adagio (slow), or allegro (fast). The dynamics, or volume, of a piece of music might begin with piano (soft), then crescendo (get louder) and finally fortissimo (very loud). A. Many think it sounds musical. B. Others wrote music in their own languages. C. Still, Italian is the primary language used in music. D. You probably needed to ask your teacher what these words meant. E. Learning to read music is an important part of practicing those skills. F. People who write music even have ways to communicate techniques. G. Ancient people in Babylonia, Greece, and Rome were some of the earliest to write music. D 17. A 18. G 19. B 20. 【16题详解】 上文“Maybe you saw the word presto at the beginning. Perhaps you read piano and crescendo throughout the song.(也许你在开始的时候看到了presto这个词。也许你读了整首歌的piano和crescendo)”列举了一些乐谱中会出现的新词;下文“Or maybe you didn’t — if you knew how to read Italian!(也许你不会——如果你知道怎么读意大利语的话)”提到如果你知道如何读意大利语,你不会做某件事。 下文提到的“你不会做的某件事”指D项中的ask your teacher what these words meant。D项中的these words指代上文中的the word presto和piano and crescendo。故选D。 【17题详解】 上文“Italian is sometimes called the language that sings.(意大利语有时被称为唱歌的语言)”指出意大利语有时被称为唱歌的语言,下文“However, the link between Italian and music is deeper than that.(然而,意大利语和音乐之间的联系远不止于此)”指出意大利语和音乐之间的联系很深。 故选A。 【18题详解】 上文“Thousands of years ago, people didn’t write music. Instead, they passed songs down orally and taught each other to play them on instruments.(几千年前,人们不写音乐。 G项中的the earliest 呼应下文中的Later,且write music呼应下文中的putting music to paper。故选G。 【19题详解】 上文“Of course, people in other parts of the world were writing music, too. In an effort to standardize written music, many of them used Italian terms.(当然,世界上其他地方的人也在创作音乐。为了使书面音乐标准化,他们中的许多人使用了意大利语术语)”指出世界上不同地方的人都会写乐谱,但为了使乐谱标准化,很多人都使用意大利语的音乐术语;下文“For example, Beethoven sometimes used German words instead of Italian. Claude Debussy used French in “Clair de Lune”.(例如,贝多芬有时用德语而不是意大利语。克劳德·德彪西在《月光》中使用了法语)”列举贝多芬用德语写乐谱和克劳德·德彪西(Claude Debussy)用法语写出了钢琴曲《月光》(“Clair de Lune”)。由此可知,除了意大利语,也有人用其他语言写乐谱,故B项“其他人用自己的语言写音乐”符合语境。B项中的wrote与上文中的writing和written是原词复现关系,且their own languages呼应下文中的German words和French。 第三部分:语言知识运用(共三节; 满分40分) 第一节 完形填空 (共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) Sixty-year-old Debora was diagnosed (诊断) with cancer after doctors found a tumor in her lung. C They compete with traditional public libraries. D They exist mainly in the form of wooden houses. 6. What is Todd Bol's primary aim of building a library? A. To remember his dead mother. B To help people form a habit of reading. C. To set an example to other communities. D. To share his knowledge, with other citizens. 7. What does Todd Bol think of the little free libraries? A. They cause minor legal problems. B. They should continue to exist. C. They mean a lot to community members. D. They should be supported by the government. C For many Americans, home is where the heart is. 8. On Sept 30 a British court decided that content on social media platforms contributed to the depression of 14-year-old Molly Russell. Russell interacted with 2100 posts related to pessimistic, self-harm in the six months, leading up to her depression, reported the Observer website. 12. Have you ever tried reading music? 第三部分:语言知识运用(共三节; 满分40分) 第一节 完形填空 (共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) Sixty-year-old Debora was diagnosed (诊断) with cancer after doctors found a tumor in her lung.
