Contagion A deadly virus spreads rapidly and kills people within days of showing symptoms. As the fast-moving pandemic grows, the worldwide medical community works to find a cure. US political website The Hill says, “It makes it clear that a virus tries to seek out new hosts (宿主) because its carriers die — as it must to survive, and it must always stay one jump ahead of death.” Interested? Click http://www.360kan.com. Flu With a severe outbreak of the epidemic a South Korean city, the government orders a complete shutdown to separate the community. Doctor Kim and a rescue worker Kang want to save the infected, including Kim’s daughter. They enter the closed city and successfully develop a vaccine (疫苗). “It conveys to its audience the importance of treating people with dignity and courage,” movie critic Kerry wrote in her essay. Visit https://movie.douban.com and learn more about it. The Hot Zone Since the Ebola virus first broke out in the 1970s in Africa, it has become famous worldwide and one of the deadliest diseases in the world. Based on the virus, a drama called The Hot Zone was created. It is set in Washington, DC, in 1989, when the virus appears in an animal research lab. A US Army scientist, Nancy Jaax, risks her life to prevent a serious outbreak. “The Hot Zone shows what it takes to defeat an outbreak,” noted Variety. Click https://www.meijui.com and see what Nancy Jaax will do. 21. Why does a virus in Contagion seek out new hosts? A. For spreading. B. For survival. C. For entertainment. D. For preference. 22. Why does the government of a South Korean city order a shutdown? A. To rescue Kim’s daughter. B. To make a research into the virus. C. To test the effectiveness of the vaccine. D To keep the city from the outside world. 23 The passage is probably taken from . A. a website B. a tour guide C. a fiction book D. an advertisement B Education in 2080 is distinctive from education in the 2020s. Until about 2035, the main function of education systems was to supply the economy with the next generation of workers. In 2080, the purpose of education is the well-being of society and all its members. To make this a bit more tangible for you, I would like to give an example of what a child’s education looks like in 2080. Her name is Shemsy. Shemsy is 13, and she is confident and loves learning. Shemsy does not go to school in the morning because schools as you know them no longer exist. The institution was abolished as it was widely thought of as more like a prison or a factory than a creative learning environment. Schools have been replaced with “Learning Hubs” that are not restricted to certain ages. They are where intergenerational learning happens, in line with the belief that learning is a lifelong pursuit. Every year, Shemsy designs her learning journey for the year with a highly attentive “teacher-citizen”. Shemsy is actively engaged in designing her education and has to propose projects she would like to be involved in to contribute to and serve her community. She also spends lots of time playing as the role of play in learning has finally been recognized as essential and core to our humanity. Shemsy works a lot collaboratively. Access to education is universal, and higher education institutions no longer differentiate themselves by how many people they reject yearly. Variability between students is expected and leveraged (利用) as young people teach one another and use their differences as a source of strength. Shemsy naturally explores what she is curious about at a pace she sets. She still has some classes to take that are mandatory for children globally: Being Human and the History of Humanity. We invite you to think about your vision for education in the year 2080, what does it look like, who does it serve, and how does it transform our societies? 24. What does paragraph 1 mainly tell us? A. There are different types of education. B. The present education needs improvements. C. Education and economy are closely associated. D. The goal of future education is fundamentally different. 25. What do we know about the Learning Hub that Shemsy goes to? A. It accepts students of all ages. B. It promotes competition. C. It discourages individualized learning. D. It is all about play-based learning. 26. What does the underlined word “mandatory” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Tough. B. Satisfactory. C. Optional. D. Required. 27. What is the suitable title for the text? A. An Example to All B. A Vision for Education C. A Challenge for Education D. A Journey into the Future C WRINKLES are big business. Around the world, people are living longer and populations are ageing. Most people can expect to make it to their 60s at least. As the number of older people increases, so does the desire to cover up one of ageing’s most obvious signs. Recent market research found that consumers in the US spent $9. 1 billion on anti-wrinkle creams and moisturisers in 2021 and will be spending nearly $13 billion in 2027. That expenditure is essentially a vanity project driven by a desire or pressure to look younger. There is no shortage of options, often at very high prices. However, there is a growing case for that bill to be picked up by healthcare providers and private insurers. Wrinkles are much more than a cosmetic(美容的) problem. There is growing evidence that they aren’t just a rough indicator of our biological age, but are also a key driver of ageing. Wrinkled skin seems to release harmful substances that speed up ageing in our brains and bodies. That makes sense when you consider that skin is on the frontline. Because it is exposed to sunlight, pollutants and other insults, it ages faster than the rest of our bodies, and then seems to drag the rest of our bodies with it. Ageing is also a leading cause of illness and, ultimately, death. By the time we are in our 60s, most of us have at least one age-related disease, and they accumulate greatly from then on at huge cost to the health services. Those costs are only going to rise as the population gets older. The goal of the recent anti-ageing research is to extend health span-in other words, to delay the development of age-related diseases. It looks as though dealing with the causes of wrinkling offers a fairly simple way of achieving this, thereby saving taxpayers billions. And if we all end up looking younger as a result, then that is something worth celebrating. 28. What does the underlined word “that expenditure” in paragraph 2 mean? A. The beauty cost. B. The ageing sign. C. The market research. D. The health concern. 29. Why are wrinkles not merely a cosmetic problem? A. Because they make people look older. B. Because they help figure out all health problems. C. Because they bring people psychological discomfort. D. Because they somewhat worsen one’s physical condition. 30. What’s the purpose of the recent anti-ageing research? A. To save taxpayers money. B. To identify the cause of wrinkling. C. To screen age-related diseases early. D. To slow down the progression of age-related diseases. 31. What would be the best title for the passage? A. Cosmetic products—Not just for the rich. B. Wrinkles—First sign of ageing. C. Cosmetic products—Price-rocketing business. D. Wrinkles—Not just skin deep. D Next time you consider striking up a conversation with a stranger in line at the grocery store or while waiting at the laundry, keep in mind that it might be beneficial for your well-being. A recent study by a group of researchers found that there is a link between happiness and a term that the researchers coined called “relational diversity.” Using public data from sources like the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the World Health Organization, the researchers analyzed data sets and survey responses from people who had shared their daily habits, schedules and interactions. They noticed a clear relationship between relational diversity and overall levels of satisfaction. Hanne Collins, a Harvard Business School doctoral student who co-authored the study, says that relational diversity is composed of two elements: richness and evenness. Richness measures relationship categories, or how many kinds of people you interact with in a day. That could be your romantic partner, a family member, a neighbor or a stranger. “The more relationship categories they talk to in a day and the more even their conversations are across those categories, the happier they are. And we find this in a large sample across many countries,” Collins said. Evenness relates to the distribution of conversations among those different relationship categories. Some people may find themselves interacting with colleagues at work more than, say, their family members. “If you have a few conversations with colleagues, a few with friends, a few with a romantic partner or a couple chats with strangers, that’s going to be more even across these categories,” Collins explained. Ultimately, Collins says, the study gives insight to the idea that humans are social creatures at heart. Having a support system is important, but it goes beyond your inner circle. “It’s about this mix. It’s about connecting with people who are close to you, who are maybe less close to you, who connect you with other people, who provide different kinds of support,” she said. “Essentially, the idea is that the more diverse your social portfolio, the happier you are and the higher your well-being.” 32. What is paragraph 2 mainly about? A. The research method. B. The supporting evidence. C. The analysis of the research data. D. The application of the research findings. 33. How does Collins explain the findings in paragraph 3? A. By illustrating concepts. B. By presenting questions. C. By using an expert’s word. D. By referring to another study. 34. What does Collins suggest people do in the last paragraph? A. Live a more active life. B. Expand the inner circle. C. Gain as much support as possible. D. Connect with all kinds of people. 35. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text? A. Humans, social creatures at heart B. Finding support benefits your well-being C. The more you interact, the better you will be D. Talking to strangers might make you happier 第二节(共5个小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Very often, we take a picture on our smartphones and then immediately check the screen to see how it came out. ____36____We’ve gathered our best tips to ensure you know how to look good in pictures. I’m watching him for Susan, the new lady at church.” Marge then put him on the floor and gave him a pat. He curled himself into a furry little ball. We spent the afternoon Sorting items for donation. When we finished, a towering pile of boxes lined the hallway. Mr. Naughty strolled (溜达) over. I lifted the fluffy sweetheart. His fur glistened under the sunlight and his green eyes sparkled with curiosity. He rubbed his face against my cheek. “When’s Susan picking him up?” “This afternoon, as soon as her plane arrives. I’ll be glad when he’s back home, he is safe and sound with his mama.” Marge said. I laughed and set Susan’s pet on the hardwood floor. “Stop worrying. What could happen? Come on, I’ll help load these boxes in your car before I go.” We lifted three boxes each. Piled up past eye level, they swayed (摇摆) in our shaking arms as we attempted to squeeze through the front door. Suddenly, I felt something furry brush my ankle and saw him slide past with elegance. I watched in horror as he paced down the front stairs. “No!” a scream burst from Marge’s lips as the cat leaped towards the fence and entered the bushes (灌木丛). “He’s not allowed outside! He’ll run away!” Marge cried. She dropped the boxes. “What will Susan do when she learns I lost her baby?” “Calm down. I’ll get him.” I dumped my boxes and hurried down the steps to the far side of the fence. But he was nowhere in sight. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Suddenly a faint sound reached our ears from the water pipe on the house wall. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 诸暨中学暨阳分校2023-2024学年第二学期期中考试 高二英语 试题 第一部分 听力 (共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。 Where does the conversation probably take place? C 【解析】 【原文】W: We’re developing a new technology that can detect forest fires as soon as they start. M: That sounds amazing. Given how many fires there have been recently, it’s something the world extremely needs. W: Indeed. In 2020 alone, California had over 8, 000 fires, losing roughly 4% of the state’s trees. M: That is truly surprising. W: Yes. The other place where it will be useful is Australia. At the start of the year, there were 50 separate forest fires burning across the country. M: So how will your new detection system work? W: We’re going to use a new range of satellites which have heat cameras. M: Don’t other satellites have those? W: Yes, but none is so advanced. They can detect a fire the size of a football field. The new system can sense a fire the size of a car. M: And will that be enough of a difference to stop the fire from spreading? W: We believe so. Hopefully it will give firefighters enough time to stop it before it gets too big. If they get the plane up in time, they will put out the fire quickly. M: If it works, I really hope you get recognition for it. W: I just want to try and stop trees from burning and more importantly, protect the poor animals that live in them. 听下面一段独白,回答以下小题。【此处可播放相关音频,请去附件查看】 18. What is the speaker doing? A. I’d like to draw your attention to certain points about taking notes. First, remember that note-taking should be 75% listening and only 25% writing. So don’t try to write down every single word the teacher says. Ignore what is unimportant and write in phrases not complete sentences. Second, leave spaces and lines between main ideas. You may want to add some information later. I find that some of you are good at making use of color, mapping web and symbols such as arrows, circles and boxes. I highly recommend these tools to all of you, because the use of them makes the outline more easily readable and interesting than the blocks of text. It also makes sure that important words stand out. A Journey into the Future 【答案】24. D 25. A 26. D 27. B 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍的是对2080年的教育的展望。 【24题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段“Until about 2035, the main function of education systems was to supply the economy with the next generation of workers. In 2080, the purpose of education is the well-being of society and all its members.(直到2035年左右,教育系统的主要功能是为经济提供下一代工人。在2080年,教育的目的是社会及其所有成员的福祉。)”可知,第一段主要告诉我们未来教育的目标是完全不同的。故选D。 【25题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“Schools have been replaced with “Learning Hubs” that are not restricted to certain ages.(学校已经被不受年龄限制的“学习中心”所取代。)”可知,Shemsy去的学习中心接受所有年龄的学生。故选A。 通读全文,尤其是第一段“In 2080, the purpose of education is the well-being of society and all its members. To make this a bit more tangible for you, I would like to give an example of what a child’s education looks like in 2080.(在2080年,教育的目的是社会及其所有成员的福祉。为了让你们更明白这一点,我想举一个2080年儿童教育的例子。)”可知,本文主要介绍的是对2080年的教育的展望,因此最恰当的标题是B选项“A Vision for Education(教育远景)”。故选B。 C WRINKLES are big business. 【答案】28. A 29. D 30. D 31. C Gain as much support as possible. D. Connect with all kinds of people. 35. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text? A. Humans, social creatures at heart B. Finding support benefits your well-being C. The more you interact, the better you will be D. Talking to strangers might make you happier 【答案】32. A 33. A 34. D 35. A black-and-white cat met me at the door and he attempted to slip out. Marge quickly scooped him up (一把抱起). “Meow! Meow! Meow!” the cat’s cry filled the air. “This is Mr. Naughty. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 But he was nowhere in sight. Marge hurried to the bushes, calling out the cat’s name and meanwhile, I walked around the yard and checked the other possible hiding spots, like under the porch and behind the shed, but he was nowhere to be found. As time ticked by, there was still no sign of Mr. Naughty. Our worry and anxiety started to escalate, and we decided to expand the search range to the nearby surroundings, but still no luck. Finally, we dragged our tired bodies back to the yard with heavy hearts. Suddenly a faint sound reached our ears from the water pipe on the house wall. It must be Mr. Naughty! Marge and I exchanged glances and immediately rushed towards the sound. We bent down and found Mr. Naughty hiding in the water pipe, his glass bead-like eyes shining in the darkness of the pipe. After failing to grasp him or call him to come out, Marge had a sudden inspiration of using his favorite toy to lure him out. It took some time, but eventually, Mr. Naughty came out of the pipe. We were all relieved and happy to see that he was safe and unharmed. Marge and I never told Susan about Mr. Naughty’s great escape. And, as far as we know, neither did Mr. Naughty. 词汇激活 行为类 ①时间流逝:tick by/pass by ②急忙:hurry/rush ③发现:find/discover 情绪类 ①疲惫的:tired /exhausted ②高兴的:happy /delighted 【点睛】[高分句型1] As time ticked by, there was still no sign of Mr. Naughty.
