Pets like dogs and cats are usually popular with people. If you keep a dog or a cat, do you always turn on the radio or TV when you’re not in just because you don’t want your pet to be lonely (孤单的)? A study shows that around 40% of the British people with dogs would like to turn the radio and that 32% would like to turn on the television. But do pets really like this?
Sometimes dogs do respond (作出反应) to human (人类) music. A study shows that when there is light music playing, many dogs seem to be quiet. When it comes to rock music, those dogs seem to be very excited; they make little response to popular music and human talk.
For cats, they hardly (几乎不) respond to human music because their hearing spectrum (频谱) is different from that of humans, so what they hear when they listen to our music is different from what we hear. Some studies show that cats respond to the sounds within their own hearing spectrum. Scientists once tried to see what would happen if they played “cat music” for the cats. They asked Professor (教授) David Teie to make special music for cats. And it showed that when they’re playing it to 47 cats, some cats did respond to it.

Eating together at home is more important than ever because there are more things taking up our attention than ever before. During the day, we are busy working and studying. Even when everyone is home, we often do things alone. The only time we may have to talk with each other is at dinner time.
When I grew up in California, my sisters and I all helped get dinner ready and then the whole family enjoyed it together, talking about how our day was going and making future family plans.
Today Americans are so busy that they usually eat alone or eat out together. However, that’s not a sound idea. A family still needs time to enjoy dinner together at home. In fact, the family meal that we cook and eat together brings us closer to our beloved family members.
Also eating together at home can be healthy. For example my mother always cooks yummy and healthy meals without using convenience food Moreover, my dad has a garden. We can always have some fresh vegetables and fruits such as strawberries, peaches and tomatoes in summer.
What’s more, by growing food children could learn some simple skills of gardening and take more interests in meals. They may begin to plant their own tomatoes, pick apples or collect eggs and then make their own dishes.
So if you want to make some changes to get everyone sit together to the table and have quality (优质的) meal time, try twice a week and build from there. Don’t forget to let the family join in shopping and food preparation (准备). These are useful skills for young children. They will also feel proud of themselves if they join in the preparation for family meals.

根据“on April 1, 1917.”
The boy now.
【答案】isn’t afraid of snakes any more
【详解】not…any more“不再”,be afraid of“害怕”,根据“now”可知,用一般现在时,主语是“The boy”,be动词用is,snake“蛇”,泛指这一类动物,用复数。故填isn’t afraid of snakes any more。
John is .
【答案】too young to go to school by bike/too young to ride a bike to school
【详解】too...to...“太……而不能”,是固定结构,young“年轻的”,go to school by bike=ride a bike to school“骑自行车去上学”;故填too young to go to school by bike/too young to ride a bike to school。
, Amy.
Don’t play with matches/Don’t play with the match
【详解】玩火:play with matches/play with the match;此处是祈使句的否定形式,应该用don’t+动词原形;故填Don’t play with matches/the match。
it is!
What an exciting basketball match/What an exciting basketball game
What an exciting basketball match/game。
in the forest?
What should we do if we get lost/What should we do if we are lost/What should we do if we lose our way
if“如果”,we“我们”,get lost/are lost/lose our way“迷路”。 What should we do if we get lost/are lost/lose our way。
He didn’t .
【答案】have enough money to pay for the meal
【详解】根据所给汉语意思可知,空缺处用“有足够的钱支付餐费”,助动词“didn’t”后面接动词原形,have“有”,enough money“足够的钱”,不定式表目的,pay for the meal”支付餐费“,故填have enough money to pay for the meal。

So, you’d better play different music for your pets. Good news for cat lovers is that you can buy such special cat music online. David Teie once took part in the cat study and he wrote cat music for sale online.
26.Why do some people leave the radio or TV on for their pet?
A.To do a study on pets. B.To stop it being noisy.
C.To make it less lonely. D.To make it love music.
27.What does the second paragraph mainly talk about?
A.Why dogs respond to some music. B.How to make dogs respond to music.
C.How dogs respond to different music. D.What sounds dogs would like to hear.
28.Which of the following is TRUE?
A.Pets like to listen to the same music. B.Cats have little interest in human music.
C.David Teie’s job is to sell things online. D.The cat music can make people excited.
29.What does the passage mainly talk about?
A.How can we look after pets? B.What kind of music do dogs love?
C.Where can we buy special cat music? D.Do dogs and cats like human music?
C
Do you sometimes use your phones to take photos of nice food and then put them online(网上)? A lot of people like doing that.
Eating together at the table is always important for a family. Food is always yummy with the people we love. We can stay close to each other, enjoy healthy food and practice the skills of cooking and dining. It’s also a great time to learn about family culture.
33.The writer’s family enjoyed their meals by ________.
A.talking about daily life and family plans
B.eating out in nearby fast-food restaurants
C.trying lots of convenience food at home
D.having dad’s delicious homemade food
34.The underlined word “sound” in Paragraph 3 probably means ________.
A.fresh B.clear
C.clever D.simple
35.We can learn from the passage that ________.
A.a family should prepare a quality family meal every evening
B.a family can have some convenience food if they are really busy
C.family meals will become yummy if children prepare them carefully
D.the preparation for family meals can help children learn useful life skills
36.Why does the writer write this passage?
A.To suggest children prepare a nice dinner for their busy parents.
B.To introduce some simple ways on how to prepare family meals.
C.To help parents know why their children dislike cooking at home.
D.To get family members to do their part for a quality home dinner.

So, you’d better play different music for your pets. Good news for cat lovers is that you can buy such special cat music online. David Teie once took part in the cat study and he wrote cat music for sale online.

A.How can we look after pets? B.What kind of music do dogs love?

Eating together at the table is always important for a family. Food is always yummy with the people we love. We can stay close to each other, enjoy healthy food and practice the skills of cooking and dining. It’s also a great time to learn about family culture.
