Rightfully so these lights are one of nature’s most jaw-dropping views. In Sweden, the northern lights usually appear from late March or early April. Your best chance of catching a glimpse of them is on cold winter nights when the sky is clear, dark with little to no moonlight, and cloudless. You need to be away from city lights and go to the countryside. For those willing to brave the cold on winter nights, here are some of the best locations. Abisko National Park Abisko Natinal Park is a main location. The scientifically confirmed “blue hole”, a piece of sky over the Tornetrask lake that usually remains clear despite cloudy weather nearby, gives Abisko its own microclimate (局部地区气候), which is suitable for catching the lights. Jukkasjarvi The village of Jukkasjarvi only has about 550 people. But don’t let the small population size fool you: Jukkasjarvi owns the world’s first ice hotel and is one of the best places to view the northern lights. The ice hotel organizes guided tours for guests to the Esrange Space Center. There you can eat at a camp outside and see the Arctic winter sky for aurora borealis (北极光). Or why not try to get closer to the northern lights and watch them through an aeroplane window? The ice hotel arranges flights for the amazing northern lights experience. Gallivare You can drive a snowmobile to the mountain top in Gallivare for a private light show, or head a few kilometers to nearby villages to watch those lights shining across the dark winter sky. But remember if you do get the chance to see the northern lights in person, never whistle to them. According to ancient Sumi fairy, it brings you bad luck. 21. When are you likely to best enjoy the northern lights in Swede? A. On cold winter nights with clear sky and a little moonlight. B. On freezing winter nights in the rural area without moonlight or cloud. C. On chilly winter nights in the city center with few lights and little cloud. D. On winter nights when the sky is dark with little moonlight and no cloud. 22. What do you know about Jukkasjarvi? A. It has up to 550 people. B. It owns the world’s first hotel. C. It is among the best places to view the northern lights. D. You can eat at a camp inside and see the aurora borealis. 23. Where can the text be found? A. A science report. B. An art magazine. C. A travel guide. D. A botanical book. B 22. C 23. 根据第二段中“Your best chance of catching a glimpse of them is on cold winter nights when the sky is clear, dark with little to no moonlight, and cloudless. You need to be away from city lights and go to the countryside.”(你瞥见它们的最佳机会是在寒冷的冬夜,天空晴朗,黑暗,几乎没有月光,没有云。 根据Jukkasjarvi中“Jukkasjarvi owns the world’s first ice hotel and is one of the best places to view the northern lights.”(Jukkasjarvi拥有世界上第一家冰雪酒店,也是观赏北极光的最佳地点之一。) 根据文章大意以及第一段“On many travelers’ lists of things to do before they die, you’ll find “See the northern lights” written down. Rightfully so these lights are one of nature’s most jaw-dropping views.”(在许多旅行者临终前要做的事情清单上,你会发现“看北极光”被写了下来。 B A few years ago, my husband Charlie and I had marriage problems. Growing family responsibilities and financial worries took a toll on us and we began arguing frequently, often late into the night. However, neither of us could take the step that would end our eleven-year marriage and bring heartbreak to our three young children. Deep down we knew we still loved each other, so we determined to work it out. Through countless discussions, we began to close the gulf. The more honest we were, the closer we became. When I felt we were reaching solid ground, I asked my husband to give me an “eternity (永恒) ring”. It was not so much the ring I wanted; it was the reassurance I thought it would bring. We went shopping on a beautiful summer day. We walked hand in hand along a row of jeweler’s shops. Finally I found a ring I liked. While waiting for it to be adjusted, the jeweler took my left hand and glanced at my engagement ring. “May I clean it for you?” he asked. “It really doesn’t sparkle like it used to.” Charlie said as I slipped the ring off my finger. A few minutes later the jeweler was back. The ring shone like new! On the drive home, I didn’t take my eyes off it. I forgot all about the eternity ring. I just couldn’t believe how this old ring suddenly sparkled the way it had the day Charlie gave it to me. I had taken it for granted these past years, but with a little polish it could still make my heart beat fast. And that’s the way it is with a marriage. You have to work at keeping it polished and new, or else the grime (污垢) of the passing years will hide the joy. I put my hand on the seat between us and spread my fingers. Charlie covered my hand with his. I felt I was lucky to be able to see the sparkle in something old when I thought I needed something new. 24. The author and her husband had marriage problems partly because __________. A. they frequently argued late into the night B. they were lack of money C. they had countless discussions D. the author wanted to have an eternity ring 25. What does the underlined part in paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Free of trouble. B. Arriving at a square. C. Wealthy and generous. D. In good relationship. 26. Why did the author forget all about the eternity ring on their way back home? A. The old ring’s light attracted her attention. B. She was not satisfied with the eternity ring. C. Her husband kept it for her. D. The couple were talking all the way merrily. 27. What does the author mainly want to express in the last paragraph? A. We tend to prefer new objects to old ones. B. One should remain thankful for what he has got. C. Marriage should be constantly polished. D. We should try to rediscover the use of old objects. B 25. D 26. A 27. 根据文章第一段“Growing family responsibilities and financial worries took a toll on us and we began arguing frequently, often late into the night.(越来越多的家庭责任和经济上的担忧让我们付出了代价,我们开始频繁争吵,经常争吵到深夜。)” 根据第二段上文“Through countless discussions, we began to close the gulf. The more honest we were, the closer we became.(经过无数次的讨论,我们开始弥合分歧。我们越诚实,我们就越亲密。)”可知,作者和丈夫解决了他们之间的问题,关系越来越融治;再根据画线部分所在句子中的“I asked my husband to give me an “eternity (永恒) ring”(我让我丈夫送我一枚“永恒戒指”。)”可推知,作者感觉她和丈夫的关系已经很好了,他们已经和好如初了。由此可推知,reaching solid ground意为“关系良好”。故选D。 【26题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第四段“On the drive home, I didn’t take my eyes off it. I forgot all about the eternity ring. I just couldn’t believe how this old ring suddenly sparkled the way it had the day Charlie gave it to me. I had taken it for granted these past years, but with a little polish it could still make my heart beat fast.(在开车回家的路上,我目不转睛地盯着它。 故选A。 根据最后一段前两句“And that’s the way it is with a marriage. You have to work at keeping it polished and new, or else the grime (污垢) of the passing years will hide the joy.(婚姻就是这样。你必须努力保持它的光亮和新鲜,否则过去岁月的污垢会掩盖喜悦。)”可知,作者认为对待婚姻也应该像对待那枚戒指一样,经常除垢,经常发现婚姻生活中的闪光点,使婚姻保持新鲜。由此可推知,作者在最后一段主要想表达婚姻要不断打磨。故选C。 C With 11 foreign languages under her belt, 68-year-old villager-turned tour guide Xu Xiuzhen has become a celebrity in the town of Yangshuo. Xu was born in a poor family at the base of Moon Hill. In the late 1970s, Yangshuo became one of the country’s first tourist destinations to welcome foreign visitors after China’s reform and opening up in 1978. “I began to see more foreign faces near Mt. Moon, and locals who spoke some English sold more bottled water than me,” said Xu. “No English, no money.” With the influx of foreign guests in Yangshuo, a large number of villagers sought opportunities to learn English given the booming tourism market. Xu eagerly joined the craze. At that time, she made a living on farming and occasionally sold bottled water to tourists near Mt. Moon. Over the past 16 years, Xu never stops learning and has taught herself 11 foreign languages, including English, Spanish, Japanese and Korean. But the polyglot farmer’s success has been hard-won. She started learning simple English phrases 16 years ago. “I used Pinyin to memorize the pronunciation of English words, but my strong southern accent made it quite difficult to understand,” said Xu. So, “I turned to foreign visitors for help, and I always appreciate their feedback because they have helped me correct my word choices and pronunciation.” Not content to simply serve as a tour guide, she now owns a popular restaurant and operates a reputable hotel. Huang Yongzhong, director of Yangshuo’s tourism bureau, said Xu’s success has encouraged many farmers to follow suit. He added that the government supports local tour guides by providing frequent training on the laws and regulations of the tourism industry. Farmers in Yangshuo are passionate, sincere and hard-working, and this spirit will lead to more success stories like that of her, he said. 28. What does the underlined word “craze” in Paragraph 2 refer to? A. Learning English. B. Living by farming. C. Selling bottled water. D. Welcoming foreign visitors. 29. According to Paragraph 3, Xu learnt English by the following means EXCEPT ______. A. making use of Pinyin B. imitating southern accent C. learning from foreigners’ feedback D. polishing the pronunciation of words 30. What is the government’s attitude towards Xu’s success? A. Neutral. B. Skeptical. C. Positive. D. Cautious. 31. What is the most suitable title for this passage? A. Practice makes perfect B. One who fails to reach the Great Wall is not a hero C. Don’t judge a book by its cover D. The “late” bird strives to catch the worm 【答案】28. A 29. B 30. C 31. 根据划线词前文“With the influx of foreign guests in Yangshuo, a large number of villagers sought opportunities to learn English given the booming tourism market.(随着外国游客涌入阳朔,考虑到旅游市场的蓬勃发展,大量村民寻求学习英语的机会)”可以推知,在阳朔有着大量外国游客的时候,徐秀珍加入了学习英语的狂热,craze表示学习英语的狂热。故选A。 根据文章第三段““I used Pinyin to memorize the pronunciation of English words, but my strong southern accent made it quite difficult to understand,” said Xu. So, “I turned to foreign visitors for help, and I always appreciate their feedback because they have helped me correct my word choices and pronunciation.”(“我用拼音来记忆英语单词的发音,但我浓重的南方口音让我很难理解,”徐说。所以,“我向外国游客寻求帮助,我一直很感激他们的反馈,因为他们帮助我纠正了我的用词和发音。”)”可知,徐秀珍通过使用拼音记忆发音,从外国人的反馈中学习并完善单词的发音,但是没有提到模仿南方口音。故选B。 【30题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第四段“He added that the government supports local tour guides by providing frequent training on the laws and regulations of the tourism industry. Farmers in Yangshuo are passionate, sincere and hard-working, and this spirit will lead to more success stories like that of her, he said.(他补充说,政府通过经常提供有关旅游业法律法规培训来支持当地导游。他说,阳朔的农民热情、真诚、勤劳,这种精神将带来更多像她这样的成功故事)”可知,当地政府对于徐秀珍的成功持积极态度。故选C。 【31题详解】 主旨大意题。根据文章第一段“With 11 foreign languages under her belt, 68-year-old villager-turned tour guide Xu Xiuzhen has become a celebrity in the town of Yangshuo.(68岁的村民导游徐秀珍会11门外语,她已经成为阳朔镇的名人)”及最后一段“Farmers in Yangshuo are passionate, sincere and hard-working, and this spirit will lead to more success stories like that of her, he said.(他说,阳朔的农民热情、真诚、勤劳,这种精神将带来更多像她这样的成功故事)”可知,本文介绍了阳朔68岁村民导游徐秀珍精通11门外语并收获成功,她的事迹激励了当地的村民的故事。 D。 D Plastic is everywhere in our modern world. Its toughness makes it an extremely useful material from household items to vehicle parts, but that same toughness makes it hard to break down for recycling or disposal (处理). However, Japanese scientists at the University of Tokyo have developed a new plastic material that can be broken down more easily and can self-heal and remember past shapes. Based on a kind of plastic called an epoxy resin vitrimer, which is brittle (脆性), the new plastic has a huge range of advantages. Once scratched (刮划) with a knife, it can completely patch itself up after being heated to 150 ℃ for just 60 seconds. When shaped into the shape of a crane, then flattened, it can fold itself back into the crane shape by being heated up. It does all of this much faster than others of its type. The new plastic can also break down easier. Even if it’s thrown into the environment, it still has less of a problem than other kinds of plastic, which the team demonstrated by placing it in seawater for 30 days. It biodegraded (生物降解) by 25% and released something that is eatable for ocean life. The new plastic is more resistant to breaking. It can also repair itself, and can recover its original memorized shape. It even biodegrades safely in a ocean environment, according to Shota Ando, a researcher of the study. The material can be used in a variety of applications. “Building materials for roads and bridges are often composed of epoxy resins mixed with compounds (化合物) such as concrete and carbon,” said Ando. “By using the new plastic, these would be easier to maintain as they would be stronger and healable using heat. Unlike conventional epoxy resins, this new material is hard but flexible, so it could also be expected to strongly bond materials of different hardness and stretch.” 32. What is the author’s purpose in writing paragraph 1? A. To introduce the topic of the text. B. To show the disadvantages of plastic. C. To highlight the importance of plastic. D. To show his views on previous plastic. 33. What do the underlined words “patch itself up” mean in paragraph 2? A. Change itself. B. Destroy itself. C. Repair itself. D. Burn itself. 34. What do we know about the new plastic? A. It is safe for animals in the ocean. B. It is made up of concrete and carbon. C. It can change its shape when frozen. D. It is more brittle than previous plastic. 35. What can be the best title for the text? A. How to Make a New Plastic B. An Interesting Scientific Study C. The Widespread Application of Plastic D. Let family and friends know you’d like to do a digital detox (脱瘾) during your time. Have everyone turn their phones off, then collect them and keep them in a separate room.(如果和你在一起的其他人都这么做,那么远离智能手机就容易多了。 故选A。 【38题详解】 空前“The day might seem boring if everyone’s phone is taken and there’s no plan for entertainment.(如果每个人的手机都被拿走,没有娱乐计划,这一天可能会显得很无聊)”说明没有娱乐活动的一天可能会让人觉得无聊,空后“From making popcorn and watching a movie to going on a hike, baking cookies or playing board games, you’ll be surprised by how much fun you can have together.(从做爆米花、看电影到徒步旅行、烤饼干或玩棋盘游戏,你会惊讶于你们在一起有多少乐趣)”介绍了一些娱乐活动,因此空格处应该说要设计娱乐活动,G选项“Expect this and design a list of activities everyone can take part in.(预料到这一点,并设计一个每个人都可以参加的活动清单)”说明了要设计每个人都可以参与进来的活动,因此承上启下,符合语境。故选G。 【39题详解】 空前“Keep your phone out of the bedroom at night. Give yourself an alarm clock, and keep your phone out of the room when you’re getting ready to sleep.(晚上不要把手机放在卧室里。 I went for a walk up to a local park and Chester was running about. So he took the bird in his hands, carried it carefully home and showed it to his parents. At once, his parents took action. They washed the bird and found it injured. With the help of his parents, Albert dressed the wound. But it would need time and care for the bird to completely recover. As the bird had become dear to his heart, Albert immediately offered to care for the bird. Albert named his new friend “Lucky”. He began to feed the bird and he even ran out to collect grass to build a soft nest for the bird. Then, he put the nest beside his bed. Albert and the bird were sleeping together and living together. Soon they became close friends. Albert always told it about his experiences in school and his secrets. Lucky, an extremely patient audience, usually responded to him with a few nods and chirps Albert’s parents also loved Lucky. They regarded it as a family member. In the course of time, Lucky gradually recovered and started to hop (脚跳) and jump a little bit and exercise its wings. That made everyone happier. Soon it would be able to fly. How wonderful! But what then? Albert became thoughtful and started to think. “If Lucky started to fly, it could simply fly away one day.” But that would not happen. Albert loved his friend so much that he couldn’t imagine parting with it. He wondered, “I should surely stay with Lucky forever. But how? Keep the windows closed all the time? That was not practical.” Then, he bought a small cage and kept Lucky in it. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Then, he bought a small cage and kept Lucky in it. Several days later, Lucky refused to eat and drink. Worried and confused, he didn’t know what to do about it. Knowing the bad situation, Albert’s parents decided to help Lucky and their son. They told their son, “If you really love Lucky, you should think of how to make it happy.” After careful consideration, Albert opened both his heart and the cage. Lucky was released and flew away. Two weeks later, a wonderful thing happened: Lucky returned, flying around Albert and chirped happily, seeming to say thanks to him. This had happened from time to time since then. Instead of losing a forced friend, Albert had made a permanent one. 词汇激活 行为类 ①展翅:spread its wings/stretch its wings/extend its wings ②拒绝:refuse/reject ③返回:return/go back/get back 情绪类 ①伤心地:sadly/sorrowfully ②感谢:thanks/appreciation/gratitude 【点睛】 [高分句型1] When all its attempts failed, what Lucky could do was sitting inside the little cage and squawking sadly. B A few years ago, my husband Charlie and I had marriage problems. 24. One should remain thankful for what he has got. C. Marriage should be constantly polished. D. We should try to rediscover the use of old objects. C With 11 foreign languages under her belt, 68-year-old villager-turned tour guide Xu Xiuzhen has become a celebrity in the town of Yangshuo. 28. Neutral. B. Skeptical. C. Positive. D. Cautious. 31. What is the most suitable title for this passage? A. Practice makes perfect B. One who fails to reach the Great Wall is not a hero C. Don’t judge a book by its cover D. The “late” bird strives to catch the worm D Plastic is everywhere in our modern world. Based on a kind of plastic called an epoxy resin vitrimer, which is brittle (脆性的), the new plastic has a huge range of advantages. Even if it’s thrown into the environment it still has less of a problem than other kinds of plastic, which the team demonstrated by placing it in seawater for 30 days.
