I should have known that my new job at the hospital was too good to be true. Throughout the day, rumors (传言) warned that the newest employee from each department would be laid off. I was the newest one in the training department. My boss appeared. “You probably know we’re cutting back,” he said. “Administration wants us to offer outplacement classes to help those employees find other jobs, showing them how to act in an interview, for example.” “Fine,” I answered unwillingly, not knowing what else to say. I decided to go home early that day. In the hall, I met the lady who brought us cookies every Friday. She was a little woman with gray hair. Only her head and the top of her green apron (围裙) were visible over the cart (小车) loaded with cleaning supplies. At least she had a job! At the final meeting, laid-off workers formed a line at the door. A colleague whispered, “I can’t believe our Cookie Lady is being laid off. We’ll miss her as much as we’ll miss her cookies.” When the colleague spoke to her in Spanish, I knew my classes would be useless for her and I realized how much better off I was than this poor woman. I decided to do something for her. I wrote to a newspaper expressing how I felt about the unselfishness of the Cookie Lady who needed a job. A few days later, my article appeared in the newspaper and the Cookie Lady was allowed to stay in her position. On the same day, I received a letter, which seemed so unlikely that I read it twice. “An editor of a local magazine likes your piece and wants you to call her next time you’re looking for work…” 4. How did the author feel on that rainy day? A. Nervous. B. Excited. C. Embarrassed. D. Proud. 5. What was the author asked to do? A. Take care of patients. B. Leave earlier that day. C. Help the laid-off workers. D. Give up the job in the hospital. 6. How did the author help the Cookie Lady? A. He offered her a high-paid job. B. He gave her advice on job hunting. C. He made her story known to others. D. He taught her how to pass an interview. 7. What does the story tell us? A. Good deeds have their rewards. B. A friend in need is a friend indeed. C. Little people can make a big difference. D. Love brings more joy to people than work does. A 5. C 6. C 7. 根据第一段“Rain beat against the window, matching my mood. I should have known that my new job at the hospital was too good to be true. Throughout the day, rumors (传言) warned that the newest employee from each department would be laid off. I was the newest one in the training department.(雨打在窗户上,和我的心情很相配。我应该知道我在医院的新工作太好了,不可能是真的。一整天都有传言说,每个部门的最新员工都将被解雇。我是培训部门的新员工)”可推知,作者听说新员工要被解雇,所以那天的心情应该是提心吊胆的。故选A。 “You probably know we’re cutting back,” he said. “Administration wants us to offer outplacement classes to help those employees find other jobs, showing them how to act in an interview, for example.” “Fine,” I answered unwillingly, not knowing what else to say. (我的老板出现了。“你可能知道我们在削减开支,”他说。“政府希望我们提供再就业课程,帮助这些员工找到其他工作,例如,向他们展示如何在面试中表现。”“好吧,”我不情愿地回答,不知道还能说什么)”可推知,作者被要求帮助那些被裁员的员工们参加培训再就业课程。故选C。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“I decided to do something for her. I wrote to a newspaper expressing how I felt about the unselfishness of the Cookie Lady who needed a job. (我决定为她做点什么。我写信给一家报纸,表达了我对这位需要工作的饼干女士的无私的感受)”可推知,作者向一家报纸讲述了饼干女士的故事并解释她需要一份工作。故选C。 【7题详解】 主旨大意题。根据最后一段“I decided to do something for her. “An editor of a local magazine likes your piece and wants you to call her next time you’re looking for work…”(我决定为她做点什么。我写信给一家报纸,表达了我对这位需要工作的饼干女士的无私的感受。几天后,我的文章出现在报纸上,饼干女士被允许留任。同一天,我收到了一封信,这封信似乎太不可能了,我读了两遍。“当地一家杂志的编辑喜欢你的文章,希望你下次找工作时给她打电话……”)”可知,作者帮助饼干女士找到了工作,并且也被提供了工作机会,所以说他的善举有了回报。故选A。 C Flying through the skies of New York with its tall buildings can be a real challenge for birds migrating (迁徙) from Central or South America to the Arctic Circle during the spring and fall migration seasons. Fortunately, more and more of them can reach their destination thanks to the help of kind humans. Project Safe Flight is a program from New York City Audubon, a community that has been working to protect birds in NYC for over 40 years. This project helps save injured birds that collide (相撞) with the reflective glass so common in many tall buildings. Each time these volunteers find a survivor, they take it to the Wild Bird Fund. Its purpose is to provide medical care to native and passing migrant wildlife so that they can be released (释放) back into the wild. Under their care, these feathered friends can rest, are properly fed, and are also given the medical treatment they need. Once the patients feel better, they spend time with other recovered birds until they become healthy enough to return to freedom. This takes place in the spring, when they’re released in Central Park, or in the fall, when they’re released out of town to make sure that their path doesn’t take them in the neighborhood of lower Manhattan’s dangerous buildings. Nearly a billion birds are killed each year in the US from collisions with windows, the Audubon Society reports. In New York City alone, between 90 and 230 thousand migratory birds die yearly from window collisions, as detailed by Curbed. This occurs mostly during the spring and fall migration seasons. Bright lights and reflective glass buildings attract and then befuddle birds because they look through them and they think they’re seeing the sky. So the dBird database is key to making policymakers learn more clearly about specific hotspots (多事之地) and thus take preventive steps accordingly to protect the lovely creatures. These include making sure that visual indicators (视觉指示器) are added to tall buildings, or that lights are turned off at night. 8. How do the volunteers help injured birds? A. By taking injured birds home. B. By releasing injured birds back into the wild. C. By having injured birds taken good care of. D. By equipping buildings with visual indicators. 9. What is the purpose of the fifth paragraph? A. To explain the side effects of migration. B. To introduce some human threats to birds. C. To draw more attention to the Audubon community. D. To show the importance of the Project Safe Flight program. 10. What does the underlined word “befuddle” in the last paragraph mean? A. Trap. B. Injure. C. Confuse. D. Assist. 11. Which can be the best title for the text? A. Watching Birds in New York B. Helping New York Birds C. Taking Good Care of Birds D. Setting Up a Program in New York 【答案】8. C 9. D 10. C 11. 根据第三段第一句“Each time these volunteers find a survivor, they take it to the Wild Bird Fund.”(每次这些志愿者找到一个幸存鸟儿,他们就把它送到野鸟基金会。)和最后一句“Under their care, these feathered friends can rest, are properly fed, and are also given the medical treatment they need.”(在他们的照料下,这些长着羽毛的朋友们可以休息,得到适当的喂养,并得到它们所需要的医疗。) 根据第二段“Project Safe Flight is a program from New York City Audubon, a community that has been working to protect birds in NYC for over 40 years. This project helps save injured birds that collide (相撞) with the reflective glass so common in many tall buildings.”(“安全飞行计划”是一个来自纽约市奥杜邦学会的项目,这个社区已经致力于保护纽约市的鸟类超过40年了。 和第五段“Nearly a billion birds are killed each year in the US from collisions with windows, the Audubon Society reports. In New York City alone, between 90 and 230 thousand migratory birds die yearly from window collisions, as detailed by Curbed. This occurs mostly during the spring and fall migration seasons.”(据奥杜邦学会报道,美国每年有近10亿只鸟死于撞窗事故。 根据画线词后的“because they look through them and they think they're seeing the sky”(因为鸟儿透过它们,以为自己看到了天空。) B。 D Virtual reality is quickly becoming the new technological frontier. Tech companies everywhere seem to be racing to get their foot in the VR door. However, virtual reality has a set of challenges and hurdles that it must overcome in order to work well. It should be noted that VR is heavily dependent on being very fast, very accurate and very good-looking. If it isn’t, the viewer will feel motion sick or disconnected from the world that VR is trying to create. Now that we can actually build VR headsets that begin to meet these requirements, we are seeing a rising interest in VR. As it rises, so does the interest in creating new media to be experienced in using virtual reality. Journalism is a medium built on relevance. Journalists should always be finding new ways to tell stories and deliver content. It is a goldmine for storytelling. What better ways to tell a story to someone than to put them right in the center of it? Virtual reality is a powerful tool for journalists. The consumer isn’t just reading or watching something play out; they’re experiencing it. The immersive nature of VR allows for people to connect with the subject matter on a much deeper level than just reading about it. The experience is emotional, speaking more to our instinct than our intellect. The possibilities for storytelling here are legion, and any storyteller wanting to do something more interesting than their peers should surely be considering the sheer power of VR. The question of virtual reality, though, is not how powerful it is. That is immediately apparent. The question of VR is one of viability and availability. Telling stories must be easy to do, and access to those stories must be readily available. This is the biggest challenge that VR faces. If the tools to tell a story with VR aren’t easy to pick up and learn, VR will fail. If VR technology isn’t both top-of-the-line and affordable, VR will fail. Accessibility was one concern for Thomas Hallaq, assistant professor of journalism and mass communications, who said that current VR technology, is pretty exclusive right now. Despite that, he said he doesn’t think the exclusivity of this technology will be a problem in the long run. “I think it’s very promising,” Hallaq said. “We’re seeing more technology become accessible, and more people having access to that technology. Just look at smartphones.” Like radio, TV and the Internet before it, virtual reality will change the way we tell stories. 12. Why is VR considered a powerful tool for journalism? A. Because it is an exclusively new tool. B. Because it is very powerful and popular. C. Because people can experience the story in person. D. Because it is very fast, accurate and good-looking. 13. According to the passage, what is the biggest challenge VR is facing? A. How powerful and interesting it can be. B. Whether people will have easy access to it. C. Whether qualified VR headsets can be built. D. What new ways people will find to deliver content. 14. What’s the author’s attitude towards the future of VR technology? A. Optimistic. B. Neutral. C. Pessimistic. D. Concerned. 15. Which of the following is the best title for the passage? A. The Wide Popularity of Virtual Reality B. The Future Development of Virtual Reality C. Challenges and Hurdles of Virtual Reality D. Virtual Reality is the Future of Storytelling 【答案】12. C 13. B 14. A 15. 根据第三段中的“The consumer isn’t just reading or watching something play out; they’re experiencing it.(消费者不仅仅是在阅读或观看节目;他们正在体验它)”可知,人们可以亲身体验新闻报道的故事,所以VR技术被认为是新闻的强大工具。 根据第四段中的“The question of VR is one of viability and availability. Telling stories must be easy to do, and access to those stories must be readily available. This is the biggest challenge that VR faces.(虚拟现实的问题是可行性和可用性的问题。讲故事必须容易做到,而且必须能够随时接触到这些故事。这是虚拟现实面临的最大挑战)”可知,虚拟现实面临的最大挑战就是人们能否非常容易地接触它。故选B。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“Like radio, TV and the Internet before it, virtual reality will change the way we tell stories.(就像虚拟现实之前的广播、电视和互联网一样,虚拟现实将改变我们讲故事的方式)”可推知,作者对VR技术的未来持积极态度。故选A。 通读全文可知,第一段引出虚拟现实这一话题,其中“However, virtual reality has a set of challenges and hurdles that it must overcome in order to work well.(然而,虚拟现实有一系列挑战和障碍,必须克服这些挑战和障碍才能正常工作)”指出虚拟现实面临一系列挑战和障碍;第二、三段讲述了虚拟现实在新闻领域的应用,是记者强大的工具;根据第四段中的“The question of VR is one of viability and availability.(虚拟现实的问题是可行性和可用性的问题)”可知,本段主要讲述了虚拟现实面临的问题;第五段“Accessibility was one concern for Thomas Hallaq, assistant professor of journalism and mass communications, who said that current VR technology, is pretty exclusive right now. Despite that, he said he doesn’t think the exclusivity of this technology will be a problem in the long run.(无障碍是新闻学和大众传播学助理教授Thomas Hallaq关注的一个问题,他表示,目前的虚拟现实技术相当排外。尽管如此,他表示,从长远来看,他认为这项技术的排他性不会成为问题)”讲述了新闻媒体的虚拟现实技术有排他性,但长远来看这个问题会得到解决;最后一段中的“I think it’s very promising(我认为这很有希望)”讲述了虚拟现实技术很有前景。由此可推测出,本文主要讲述了虚拟现实技术在新闻领域的应用,并指出该技术存在一定的问题,但非常有前景。再结合第二段中的“It is a goldmine for storytelling. What better ways to tell a story to someone than to put them right in the center of it?(这是讲故事的金矿。还有什么比把一个人放在故事的中心来给别人讲故事的更好方法呢?)”可知,D项“虚拟现实是讲故事的未来”最适合作文章标题。故选D。 第二节(共5 小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Just Dance, the popular dance platform by Ubisoft is working on becoming more and more accessible. It was a really cold winter day. Without a coat that is too expensive for me to afford, I headed to the downtown for an interview. I sat down in the streetcar, and there against those scats was a beautiful silk umbrella with a silver handle decorated with gold scrolls, among which there was a name carved. On impulse (冲动) I determined to find the owner myself. I got off the streetcar and searched a telephone book for the name. I found it immediately and called it. waiting patiently, and then a lady answered. “Yes,” she said in surprise, with extreme excitement. “It was my umbrella which had been stolen a year ago.” So appealing was her pleasure that I forgot I was looking for a job and went directly to her small house. She took the umbrella with teary eyes, explaining with choking voice that the umbrella was given by her parents, now dead. She would like to offer me some reward as an expression of her gratitude. But I refused and left. The following days were hard. I could only obtain temporary employment, for a small salary. What was worse, I had just lost my last job before Christmas, with only fifteen dollars left. Unless a miracle happened, I would be homeless in January, foodless and jobless. The air was full of Christmas merriment, with the bells ringing and children shouting in the bitter dusk of the evening. But there should be no Christmas for me. Thinking of this, I couldn’t control my tears on my way home, but I managed a smile so I could greet my little daughter. She opened the door for me and threw herself in my arms, dreaming joyously and demanding desirably for her Christmas gift. There I stood, frozen overwhelmed by sadness. Paragraph 1: Suddenly, the doorbell rang and Peggy ran immediately to answer it, calling that it must be Santa Claus. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Just when I was doubting whether the package had been addressed to the wrong place, a note attached to it caught my eyes. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Suddenly, the doorbell rang and Peggy ran immediately to answer it, calling that it must be Santa Claus. Then I heard a man talking to her. A slight feeling of doubt swept over me, so I went to the door. There was a delivery man handing a large package to my girl whose arms had been full. “It can’t be ours,” I said. “This must be a mistake.” But he rechecked the name, saying that it was for me. Peggy and I took the package in, exchanging confused looks. I was at a loss what to do next. What a surprise! Who could be the warm-hearted sender? Just when I was doubting whether the package had been addressed to the wrong place, a note attached to it caught my eyes. It read “Thanks for returning the umbrella. Merry Christmas.” When I saw the note, all doubts were erased from my mind. It had been sent by the lady who owned the umbrella. Holding the note tightly, I couldn’t control my tears, a stream of warmth coming over me. I forgot that I only had fifteen dollars left in my pocket. As I watched Peggy unwrapping the gifts one by one on the ground, with a big grin on her face, I felt my life was full of hope again. 词汇激活 行为类 ①掠过:sweep over/flash ②递:hand/deliver/pass on 情绪类 ①热心的:warm-hearted/ kind ②困惑的:confused/puzzled 【点睛】[高分句型1]There was a delivery man handing a large package to my girl whose arms had been full. C Flying through the skies of New York with its tall buildings can be a real challenge for birds migrating (迁徙) from Central or South America to the Arctic Circle during the spring and fall migration seasons. Each time these volunteers find a survivor they take it to the Wild Bird Fund. Setting Up a Program in New York D Virtual reality is quickly becoming the new technological frontier. 13. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 1-5 CABAC 6-10BBACA 11-15 CBACC 16-20 BCABB 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
