Here are some recommended to you. Notting Hill After the success of his film Four Weddings and a Funeral, writer and producer Richard Curtis captured the essence of being British in 1999’s Notting Hill. Set against the background of affluent (富足的) West London, the film became popular for its charming and funny portrayal(刻画) of a British nobody trying to impress a Hollywood star. The Full Monty This 1997 film is a Sheffield-based comedy about six unemployed men who form a group to make money for a better life. Despite its hummer, the film dives deeper into some serious issues surrounding working-class culture. The Full Monty is an uplifting film that gives an insight into the work and life of the working class in Britain. Trainspotting Danny Boyle’s 1996 comedy-drama Trainspotting is about a group of Scots in the 1980s, based on the book by Irvine Welsh. With a cast of truly great actors including Ewan MeGregor, the tale impressed the audience globally. It rapidly became a critical success. Monty Python’s Life of Brian Featuring a jam-packed cast of comedic stars. Monty Python’s Life of Brian tells the story of a young man who is in a case of mistaken identity. Life of the British working class. 2. What kind of film does Monty Python’s Life of Brian belong to? A. A comedy film. B. A science fiction film. C. An action movie D. A horror movie. 3. Which of the following films is adapted from a book? A Notting Hill. B. The Full Monty. C. Trainspotting. D. Monty Python’s Life of Brian. B “Hey, lady! You can move your ugly car up now!” The silver-haired driver behind me in a fancy truck rudely yelled at me. Without much thought, I yelled back at the man, “What? Are you in a rush or something?” I was waiting in line at the drive-through to order our breakfast on a Sunday morning. There were only 12 inches or so between me and the car in front of me. There were also three additional cars in front of that one. We were getting nowhere fast. What was he hoping to gain by yelling at me? I wanted to let my own anger go after this ridiculous exchange. But the more I thought about it, the angrier I got. I was angry that he yelled at a mother in front of two kids. My daughter and my son were both confused and saddened by what they had just witnessed. We were on our way to a soccer tournament, and we had a bonus day free from school and work. Probably, there was nothing in the world to be upset about. Then this man let his anger out. I told my kids I was so mad that I had to roll my window up so that I wouldn’t keep yelling at this guy. Then, I stopped and looked back. I had moved up the 12 or so inches at his “suggestion”, while he hadn’t moved an inch. Suddenly, I felt sympathy for him. He must have been suffering in some way. As my kids and I slowly made our way to the pick-up window to pay for our order, I had an idea. “I heard how rude that man was to you, and I wanted to apologize to you for having to put up with that. He isn’t worth paying for,” the cashier said to me. “My kids support me in doing that,” I answered the cashier, adding that hate cannot drive out hate. 4. Why was the driver angry with the author? A Her car cut in. B. She screamed at him. C. She held up his truck. D. Her car stopped suddenly. 5. What does the author mainly tell us in paragraph 3? A. What her kids’ reaction was. B. Why her anger kept growing. C. How she calmed herself down. D. Why she ordered the breakfast. 6. What was the author’s final decision? A. She taught her kids a lesson. B. She apologized to the driver. C She paid for the driver’s food. D. She gave the cashier some advice. 7. What does the author intend to convey in the text? A. Respond to hate with kindness. B. Deal with a man as he deals with you. C. Put distance between your car and another. D. Never go to the drive-through at rush hours. C Metaura Pro claims to be the world’s first wearable air-conditioning device capable of constantly blowing cold air to keep the wearer cool. Conventional wearable cooling systems only circulate the surrounding air, and thus don’t do a very good job of cooling people down. The stronger the wind blows, the hotter you get. This is definitely not what you want during those hot summer days. Metaura Pro, on the other hand, relies on a cooling solution to produce genuinely cold air that is 7 degrees Fahrenheit (华氏的) cooler than that of the surrounding area, in fan mode, and up to 18 degrees Fahrenheit cooler than the surrounding air, in cooling mode. The device has a smart app and relies on artificial intelligence to regulate air temperature. Metaura Pro is driven by a powerful motor and its cooling modules are made up of 26 lightweight flat objects that wrap around the wearer’s neck and help to reduce heat. The motor is linked to a high-speed fan at the back of the device which also drives away some of that warm air around the neck. The device also has a VC plate, which has a liquid-cooled, heat-equalizing mechanism, efficiently creating a temperature differential between hot and cold temperatures. “What sets Metaura Pro apart from the competition is that it produces genuinely cold air lower than the surrounding temperature, refreshing you during those dog days of summer,” the Metaura Pro Kickstarter crowdfunding page reads. Metaura Pro not only supplies a cooling function, but also has the capacity for heating as well in winter, it can be used to warm your body to a comfortable temperature, when the surrounding air feels cold. The device intelligently monitors itself, so when you take it off, it recognizes that it is no longer in use and will automatically shut off and switch to standby mode to save power consumption. Metaura Pro wearable collar is powered by a chargeable battery that can provide only 3 hours of cooling on a single charge. The device weighs 435 grams, which is not heavy, but definitely noticeable. 8. How does Metaura Pro manage to keep people cool? A. By dropping the body temperature. B. By circulating the surrounding air. C. By producing lower-temperature air. D. By blowing the strong wind around. 9. What is mainly discussed about Metaura Pro in paragraph 3? A. Its internal structure. B. Its operating costs. C. Its amazing function. D. Its working principle. 10. What may be the disadvantage of the device? A. It puts limitation on cooling function. B. It switches to different modes by hand. C It possesses a relatively short battery life. D. It depends much on outdoor temperatures. 11. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text? A. A double-mode smart phone app B. A cooling air-conditioning system C. A rechargeable battery for e-products D. A wearable temperature-adjusting device D French schools once prized the nutritional value of wine. So commonly was it served to children that in 1956 the government banned wine in school canteens—and even then, only for the under-14s. France was the world’s biggest wine producer last year. A bottle of wine has long been to the French meal what fast driving is to the German motorway: an ordinary habit, national right and personal pleasure. No longer. In 2022 roughly 10% of French people drank wine every day, down from half in 1980. Back in 1960 the French drank an average of 116 liters of everyday wine per person. Between 2000 and 2018 that shrank from 28 liters to just 17. A glass of wine is an increasingly rare sight at the lunch table. What is going on? It is not simply price. A bottle of Bordeaux can still be found in a French supermarket for under €3. Some village co-operatives sell local produce straight from the vat for €l.90 a liter—less than fresh orange juice. A better explanation is that a beer-drinking trend is challenging Mediterranean habits. The French now tell polls that they prefer beer to wine. Beer accounts for more than half of all alcohol bought in French supermarkets. Even in southern France, some cafes serve imported Belgian or German beer on tap. Most important, a health-conscious younger generation is drinking less. A quarter of French 18- to 34-year-olds say they never drink alcohol. Fully 39% of under-35s say that they do not drink wine, next to only 27% of the over-50s. Le dry January has entered the national vocabulary. No- and low-alcohol drinks are spreading. A younger generation is rejecting old Mediterranean habits. In an attempt to “speak to Generation Z by adopting its codes”, Pernod Ricard, a drinks giant, runs a marketing campaign with the slogan “Drink more…water”. Of course, consumption of high-quality wine remains strong. But the decline of cheaper stuff has wider consequences for France. Last summer the government allowed €200m to buy surplus low-end wine that producers could not sell. In some areas, farmers are tearing off lesser vines (葡萄藤) altogether. Less alcohol may improve health, but not necessarily the mood or landscapes of rural France. 12. What can we learn from the first paragraph? A. Serving wine to French children has been banned. B. Drinking wine is as dangerous a habit as fast driving. C. Wine consumption has long been a practice in France. D. Nutritional value of wine is widely recognized in France. 13. What’s the major reason for the French people drinking less wine? A. Health concern. B. Challenge from beer. C. Economic decline. D. Shortage of wine supply. 14. What does the underlined part “Le dry January” in paragraph 4 probably refer to? A. A season of poor grape harvest. B. A period when the weather is dry. C. An organization advocating drinking water. D. A campaign calling for less wine consumption. 15. What can be inferred from the last paragraph? A. Consumption of low-quality wine remains unchanged. B. Production of high-end wine is lower than that of low-end wine. C. Farmers who produce more wine are awarded by the government. D. Not all French people benefit from the decline of wine consumption. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 The problem nowadays is that there seems to be less of a desire to read than in the past. Teachers often complain that students don’t read. Most of them find it challenging to try to encourage students to read. Reading is a source of knowledge and language, but it should also be a source of entertainment. ____16____ When did we last give our students the chance to read something just for the pure pleasure of reading it? Reading is so often linked to some kinds of tasks. ____17____ Therefore, we need to show our students the benefits of reading for fun, and offer them the time to do so. Witnessing students reading for fun Recently, I was really surprised by two things that I saw. The first was in a bookshop. On a raining day, I wanted to shelter myself from the rain and browse some books, but it was hard to find a chair to sit, for all the chairs were occupied—by teenagers with their heads buried in books. ____18____ The front three rows were taken by youngsters, absorbed in reading and ignoring everything and everyone around them. In both cases, they read what they had chosen to read since it was of interest to them instead of school textbooks. How to get students reading for pleasure The dilemma we face is how to get our students to behave in this way in the classroom. First and foremost, remove their fear of always being formally questioned during or after reading. Secondly, give them opportunities to read simply for the pleasure of reading. What they like matters. ____19____ Even five minutes of reading for pleasure every day or every lesson will soon motivate them to read through their own choice. Of course, in reality, it’s hard to be achieved. But a start has to be made somewhere. Remember, reading empowers! ____20____ Try and carry out these tips in the classroom and you could find some amazing results. A. Time isn’t a problem. B. Reading takes time and patience. C The second surprise was on the bus. D. Students will benefit so much from reading E. Reading in that way becomes of little enjoyment. F. Here lies part of the answer to the problem of our students not reading. G. Teachers have the mission to ensure this to take place in the classroom. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 Tobias, a 35-year-old Belgian musician, has become popular on social media for his excellent grasp of the Shanghai dialect. This was one more weapon for her to defeat my strange problem — inability to read. I n the library. I found my way into the “Children’s Room.” I sat down on the floor and pulled a few books off the shelf at random. The cover of a book caught my eye. It presented a picture of a beagle (小猎犬). I had recently had a beagle, the first and only animal companion I ever had as a child. He was my secret sharer, but one morning. he was gone, given away to someone who had the space and the money to care for him. I never forgot my beagle. There on the book’s cover was a beagle which looked the same as my dog. I ran my fingers over the picture of the dog on the cover. My eyes ran across the title. Amos, the Beagle with a Plan. Unknowingly, I had read the title. Without opening the book, I borrowed it from the library for the summer. Under the shade of a bush, I started to read about Amos. I read very, very slowly with difficulty. Though pages were turned slowly, I got the main idea of the story about a dog who, like mine, had been separated from his family and who finally found his way back home. That dog was my dog, and I was the little boy in the book. At the end of the story, my mind continued the final scene of reunion, on and on, until my own lost dog and I were, in my mind, running together. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 My mother’s call returned me to the real world. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Believe it or not, what I experienced in that day changed me completely. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 听力答案:1-5CCCCC 6-10ABBBB 11-15ACCCA 16-20CCBCC 南充高中高2023级第二学期第二次月考 英语试卷 (时间:120分钟 总分150分) 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项,并标在试卷的相应位置。听完每段对话后,你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题。每段对话仅读一遍。 1. She asked if I had found a book, and I nodded, still lost in the story. She smiled, pleased that I had taken the initiative to read. As I walked home, I held the book tightly, feeling the warmth of the sun on my face and the excitement of discovering a new world. I had found my first love in books, and it was a feeling that I would never forget. Believe it or not, what I experienced in that day changed me completely. I started to read more and more books, exploring different worlds and characters. I found solace in the pages, finding comfort in the stories that reminded me of my own life. My reading ability improved dramatically, and I was finally able to overcome my strange problem. I was no longer afraid of books; instead, I cherished them and sought them out whenever I could. I am forever grateful to my mother for giving me that order, and to the library for providing me with the gateway to a whole new world. 听力答案:1-5CCCCC 6-10ABBBB 11-15ACCCA 16-20CCBCC 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
