If you are lazy and weak, you will never taste success. But if you are hard-working, success and 1 will probably come to you.

Summer came. The hot weather made me sleepy and I didn’t want to study. All I thought about was playing with my friends and eating persimmons. My mom, with a serious look on 5 face, would always say “If a persimmon tree doesn’t grow in summer, it can’t bear (结出) fruit in autumn! Only by hard work can you get good results. ” 6 I didn’t understand it at that time, I gradually came to see the truth of her words.
A few months later, I 7 entered the key middle school. Walking in my new school in autumn, I could see quite a few persimmon trees. The fruit was 8 red that it looked as if it was on fire. 9 , I realized that working hard may be bitter but its fruit is sweet.
My mom was right. If 10 persimmon tree doesn’t grow in summer, it can’t bear fruit in autumn. I smiled. I had grown through the summer and now it was autumn.
I tasted my success and enjoyed the fruit of my labor!

For middle and primary school students, being able to cook has become a must. They will also need to learn how to plant vegetables, raise animals and maintain home appliances (修理家电) under new requirements for labor education.
The Ministry of Education (MOE) brought out a new standard for labor education in schools last year. Starting from the 2022 fall semester, students in primary and middle schools have to take courses on labor skills at least once a week.
Labor education helps students value hard work. It includes things like household chores (家务),on-campus labor and community volunteer services.
The new standards include three types of labor tasks. The first is for things like everyday chores, including cleaning, organizing, cooking, and using and maintaining home appliances. Next is productive labor, including agriculture, making traditional handicrafts, and applying new technologies such as 3D printing and laser cutting (激光切割). The third type is service work, which includes volunteer work.
Schools in China have traditionally placed more focus on studying, and many have seen household chores as a waste of children’s time. But according to the MOE, labor education must be built up to help students develop social values and develop an interest in labor.
Online, people have been busy discussing the new standards on social media.
Liu Fang, a mother of 6-year-old twins in Beijing, strongly supports labor education. For the past year, she has trained her daughters to do household chores and make simple dishes for the family.
“The main idea is to let them share responsibility as family members and become independent as early as they can,” said Liu. “Through doing housework, their hand-eye coordination (协调), time management and organization skills can be trained and it’s also good to help them relax. ”

My name is Peter. Since I’m an 18-year-old student now, I think it is the perfect time for me to take real responsibility (责任) for myself and begin a new challenge. I have already finished high school, and spent long time making friends and finding out a path for my future. So I started to do a part-time job this year.
Now, I have a lot of opportunities to get a part-time job. If I get a job at school, I can work in the school libraries or bookshops. If I work outside the school, I can be a shopping guide at the mall or work as a waiter at fast food restaurants.
However, what I do as a part-time job is to help international high-school students learn the subjects like English and history. I help these students through online classes. This way, I am actually doing something that a lot of people nowadays could only dream of doing that is working at home.
The job really isn’t too difficult because I have some teaching experience when I was in high school. I can also learn a lot from it. I see doing a part-time as something that brings me a lot of advantages. It not only gives me some pocket money but also teaches me skills that cannot be learned from university classes. These include skills such as interpersonal communication, time management and financial (财务的) planning.
I think that part-time jobs are not something that everyone should do. It requires the ability to manage one’s time wisely and find the perfect balance between work and study.
1. How old is Peter now?
2. What is Peter’s part-time job?

Do More Labor Practice
Hello,boys and girls!
I would like to talk about labor practice. First,I want to share my experience to take part in labor practice with everyone.
Last Wednesday, I planted trees with my classmates. It was sunny and warm. Winds blew gently on my face. We started working as soon as we got to the place. Some dug holes, some carried the water, some carried trees, others put the earth into the hole after placing the tree in the hole. We were tired but we laughed happily.
By labor practice, we get to understand how important the labor is for humans and how hard our parents are every day. During labor practice, we can learn many skills that we can’t learn from books, too. What’s more, we help each other and come up with many new ideas together when we join in labor practice. This makes us understand books better.
It is necessary for us to receive labor education. Come on! Let’s take action to do more labor practice.
That’s all. Thank you!
