The school convenience store is a place where many students enjoy a snack and a chat. However, it may become a thing of the past.
China’s educational and health authorities have banned(禁止) convenience stores in all kindergartens, primary, middle and high schools across the country. The rule has taken effect since April 1. It requires that administrators (管理人员) should keep record of each meal and solve any food problems as soon as possible. Parents can also eat with students at school canteens and give suggestions to the school on food safety, it said.
The rule raised heated debates. Many students were sad about the ban. “Without convenience stores, our school life will be less interesting,” a student named Fang, from a senior high school in Hangzhou, told Qianjiang Evening News. “We won't be able to have different flavored drinks or desserts.” However, many parents expressed support for the rule. The father of a junior school student in Beijing, told the Global Times that “cheap, low-quality snacks sold at these stores are harmful to children's health.” “Students now rush to shops to buy snacks as soon as a class is over, which affects the normal teaching order,” he said.
The move comes among food health concerns at public schools and is designed to meet the nutritional needs of students, The Beijing News reported. The rule also requires schools to monitor students who may be obese(肥胖的), and to make sure they follow a healthy diet.
And in fact many foreign countries have their own ways to make students eat healthily. For example, many parents in Australia volunteer in schools, sometimes in canteens, according to China National Radio. These parents, at least, do their best to see that their children are served nutritious food. In Japan, there is “food and nutrition education”. Primary and middle school students eat lunch in their classrooms, where they learn about diet and nutrition, and Japan's food culture, reported City Lab, an internet magazine hosted by The Atlantic. They also take turns serving meals to each other, cleaning up, and recycling.

More and more customers have become worried about the environment, so many companies have begun working to develop paper bottles. Paper bottles have many advantages. Perhaps the most important is that they can be easily recycled. Paper bottles also weigh less than glass or plastic ones and they’ll require less energy to produce and to move around. Since paper is soft and easy to be shaped, companies can design their bottles to take almost any shape they choose.
A company called Paboco has been working with many large companies to develop paper bottles. The companies are creating their own bottle designs, but they’re sharing what they learn to speed up the development of paper bottle technology.
Clearly, one of the biggest challenges is keeping a paper bottle from leaking (漏). Many companies are lining (做内衬) their bottles with a thin sheet of plastic. Though bottle makers may say they can be removed, many recycling programs don’t have the right machines to produce them.
A company named Diageo has just announced the first paper bottle that is completely plastic - free. Instead of a plastic liner, a non - plastic (无塑料) coating will be used on the inside of the bottles. This should make the bottle fully recyclable. But even without the plastic, paper bottles aren’t perfect, which means more trees need to be cut down to make the bottles.
There’re still lots of tests to be done before paper bottles can be used widely. But with so many companies working towards the same goal, it’s likely that we can expect to see paper bottles on store shelves in the near future.
27. What is the greatest advantage of paper bottles according to the passage?
A. They are soft and can be easily shaped.
B. They are lighter than plastic or glass ones.
C. They can be moved around with less energy.
D. They are easy to recycle and environmentally friendly.
28. What does the underlined word “they” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A. Many companies. B. Paper bottles. C. Sheets of plastic. D. Bottle makers.
29. How did Diageo deal with the problem of leaking according to Paragraph 4?
A. By lining bottles with a thin sheet of plastic.
B. By using a non-plastic coating inside the bottle.
C. By designing new recyclable plastic bottle.
D. By cutting down more trees to make the bottles.
30. What does the last paragraph mainly tell about?
A. Many companies have produced the paper bottles widely.
B. Paper bottles still need to be tested before appearing in stores.
C. Paper bottles have taken the place of glass or plastic ones so far.
D. People must see paper bottles on the store shelves in the near future.

“I’m sorry,” said Jo. “Are you bored?”
“Yes, very.” he replied.
“Don’t your friends come to visit you?”

“Girls are quiet.”
“I don’t know any girls.”
“You know us.”
“That’s true! Can you come and visit me?” cried Laurie.

A few minutes later, she returned and rang the bell on the door of laurie’s house. A servane took her upstairs.
“Here I am!” she said brightly. “Mother sends her love and my sisters gave me this blancmange (牛奶冻) for you.”
“That looks delicious,” Laurie said. He was very happy to see Jo.
Jo looked around. There were lots of books on the shelves.
“A nice room!” she said. “I can read to you if you like.”
“No, let’s talk,” replied Laurie.
“All right,” said Jo, “I can talk for hours. My sisters say I never know when to stop.”
“You have three sisters-Amy, Beth and Meg.” Laurie continued.
“How do you know this?” Jo was surprised.
“You call each other’s names when you are in the garden. Sometimes I can see you all around the table with your mother. She has a very kind face. I like looking at her. I haven’t got a mother.”
Jo felt sad when she heard this.
“Why don’t you come and visit us?” she said, “It isn’t good for you to stay in this house all the time.”
“Thank you. I’d like to come very much.” Said Laurie.
“We know all our neighbours except you.” Jo said, “ I’m glad we’re friends now.”
She told him about all the interesting things in her life. She said, “Besides (除了……之外) plays, I also love books.” Laurie loved books too, and offered to show her the library in the house. The library was a wonderful room. Jo loved it.

Finally, you move into REM (rapid eye movement). 39 This is caused by certain brain activity. You may have vivid dreams during this stage. Your waves are more active, and they’re similar to when you're awake. It's easier to wake you up, but you may feel sleepy.

It makes me grow up
Our junior high school life is full of sweetness and bitterness. I didn’t realize that teamwork is much more important than personal performance until I lost the soccer match.
Last week, our team lost the game in the “City Mayor Cup”. I still remember clearly when I had the ball on the field, coming up to the goal. I was in a better position to pass the ball instead of shooting. One of my teammates was in the best position to shoot and score. But I really wanted to score the goal myself and win the match. I wanted to be the hero. I shot but failed. I was so upset and it felt like a big black cloud was hanging over my head.
After the match, I apologized to my teammates and my coach. They didn’t blame me. But my coach’s words stayed with me. He said, “The game is not all about winning or losing.” The experience made me grow up and taught me the importance of teamwork.
