阅读理解 A (2024·广东汕头高三模拟)For some people,October is October. On October 5,Katmai National Park and Preserve in southern Alaska kicked off Fat Bear Week, when fans compare before and after photos of bears to vote for the one they think has gained the most weight before they bed down for the long freezing winter. Bear 747,also known as “Bear Force One”,took the firstplace spot with 68,105 votes. It weighed around 1,400 pounds. Fat Bear Week started in 2014.At first it was just Fat Bear Tuesday. Mike Fitz,a former park keeper at Katmai, noticed that live webcams showing the bears generated a lot of online comments,so he let people vote for their favorite fat bear on the Internet. The oneday event attracted 1,700 votes. In 2015,it was extended to a week. Last year, nearly 800,000 people got involved, turning it into a global campaign. The contest serves two main purposes. First, some of America's national parks are in remote and undeveloped areas, which are difficult or costly to reach. Fat Bear Week brings Alaska's wilderness to fans' computer screens.“It's not limited to the fortunate few who can go to the river anymore,”Fitz said. Second,Fat Bear Week brings attention to the bears and the ecosystems they live in. The 2,200 bears of Katmai are strong for feeding on some of the healthiest salmon (鲑鱼) in the world, said Sara Wolman,a former park keeper. Salmon in the Pacific Northwest are suffering from overfishing, dam construction and warming rivers due to climate change. Luckily,Brooks River, which Katmai's bears like to fish in,has been free from these threats so far. Fat Bear Week has spread like viruses. Fans and creators say it's because it shows a conservation success story. For one week, people don't have to focus on climate change or habitat loss.“Maybe things aren't super great all the time in the world,” said Felicia Jimenez, who is a current Katmai keeper.“But there are some really fat bears in Alaska.” 1.Why did Bear 747 become the winner of Fat Bear Week in southern Alaska? A.It gained the most pounds. B.It was the heaviest. C.It presented the best photos. D.It was the most famous. 2.What is the purpose of Paragraph 2? A.To show the popularity of fat bears. B.To review the history of the event. C.To praise Mike Fitz for his work. D.To explain the role of live webcams. 3.What can we learn about Katmai's bears? A.They bring tourists to the park. B.They face a population decline. C.They remain difficult to be seen. D.They have a stable food source. 4.Which can be the best title for the text? A.Fat Bear Week: Conservation Is Joyful B.Brown Bears: Winter Survival Is Crucial C.Bear 747: A Fat Yet Healthy Champion D.Katmai's Bears: A Special Beauty Contest 【语篇解读】本文是一篇说明文。 根据第一段中的“...photos of bears to vote for the one they think has gained the most weight before they bed down for the long freezing winter.” 故选A。 故选A。 B (2024·四川名校高三分科调研)It's 4:30 a.m. in a forest where a small group of scarlet macaws (金刚鹦鹉) are waiting for Montoya Santiago. “Twice a day,I give them rice with beans. When I can,I buy bird food. I do it with lots of love because they are like my children,” says Montoya, who lives in a small village called Mabita, where most of the villagers protect these colorfully feathered birds and the rest of the wildlife surrounding them. Years ago,Montoya made extra money by selling macaw eggs and babies as pets—not realizing that it would have a detrimental impact on the bird population. When she learned the number of macaws was rapidly declining,Montoya decided to become a protector of the birds. She tried to convince the other villagers to follow in her footsteps. “They threatened me at first, but I convinced everyone to stop selling the chicks,” says Montoya. Before 1990,the hunting and sale of wild species was legal in my country and thousands of macaws were killed. In 2010,the population dropped to 100,compared to 500 in 2005. Montoya's work drew the attention of One Earth Conservation based in New York, which decided to provide funds to monitor and strengthen the macaw population with the support of the local villagers. They were paid about $10 per day to take care of the macaws and Montoya was hired to serve as the community's project director. “We have similar projects all over the Americas, but the Mabita project is the most successful one because of Montoya's commitment,” says LoraKim Joyner, founder of One Earth Conservation.“Despite having her own family to feed, including six children and other young relatives, she shared her precious crops with the birds. Not everyone can do that.” Since the project began, the scarlet macaw population has grown from 100 to 800.However,there is concern that the progress made so far will be rolled back: funding for the community involvement will end next year. 5.What does the word “detrimental” underlined in Paragraph 3 mean? A.Harmful. B.Little. C.Avoidable. D.Positive. 6.Why did the villagers stop hunting the scarlet macaws? A.They were paid by an organization. B.The scarlet macaws had died out. C.The birds were listed as endangered. D.They were persuaded by Montoya. 7.What can be inferred from LoraKim Joyner's words? A.Montoya is a selfish woman. B.Montoya's family is very poor. C.Montoya is a cruel mother. D.Montoya is an unsuccessful leader. 8.What are people worried about? A.The villagers in Mabita will suffer from hunger. B.The scarlet macaw population will decline again. C.One Earth Conservation will run out of money. D.Montoya will hunt the scarlet macaws very soon. 根据画线词上文“Years ago,Montoya made extra money by selling macaw eggs and babies as pets—not realizing that”及下文“When she learned the number of macaws was rapidly declining,Montoya decided to become a protector of the birds.” 故选A。 根据第四段中的“‘They threatened me at first, but I convinced everyone to stop selling the chicks,’says Montoya.” 根据第六段中的“Despite having her own family to feed, including six children and other young relatives, she shared her precious crops with the birds.” 根据最后一段中的there is concern that the progress made so far will be rolled back可知,人们担心目前取得的进展会遭受挫折,即金刚鹦鹉的数量会回落。故选B。 Ⅱ. Who would win in a fight,a lion or a tiger? Well,if size has anything to do with the matter, the tiger would win.1.______ They are also fast. They can sprint as fast as 40 miles per hour for short distances and leap as far as 30 feet horizontally. This makes for an extremely dangerous attack. You might not think that such large, fast, and ferocious creatures need help to survive, but they do.2.______ Tigers are hunted for many reasons. People have long valued the famous striped skins. Though trading tiger skins is now illegal in most parts of the world, they are worth around $10,000 on the blackmarket.3.______ Many Asian cultures believe that various tiger parts have healing properties. 4.______ However, perhaps more damage has been caused through the destruction of habitats. Tigers once ranged widely across Asia, but over the past 100 years, tigers have lost 93% of their historic range. A major obstacle to preserving tigers is the enormous amount of territory that each tiger requires. Each wild tiger demands between 200 and 300 square miles. Tigers are also both territorial and solitary (独居的) animals.5.______ Since tigers need so much territory,it is difficult for conservationists to acquire land enough to support a large population of tigers. Even when these considerable spaces are provided,it is even more difficult to move around such large areas to prevent the illegal hunting. There is no easy way to preserve the wild tiger population without making large sacrifices. A.The tiger is an endangered species. B.Restoring the world's tiger population is possible. C.Other parts of the tiger can also fetch a pretty penny. D.That's because tigers are the largest of all cat species. E.Traditional Chinese medicine uses tiger bones in some prescriptions. F.This means they generally do not share with other tigers the areas they claim. G.Humans have done considerable damage to the tiger population through hunting. 1.D [解析]根据上文“Well,if size has anything to do with the matter, the tiger would win.” 2.A [解析]根据上文“You might not think that such large, fast, and ferocious creatures need help to survive, but they do.” 3.C [解析]根据上文“Though trading tiger skins is now illegal in most parts of the world, they are worth around $10,000 on the blackmarket.” 4.G [解析]根据下文“However, perhaps ... through the destruction of habitats.” 5.F [解析]根据上文“Tigers are also both territorial and solitary animals.”和下文“Since tigers need so much territory,it is difficult for conservationists to acquire land enough to support a large population of tigers.” Ⅲ.语法填空 (2024·湖北仙桃田家炳高级中学模拟)May 22 marks the annual International Day for Biological Diversity,1.__________ theme for this year is “From Agreement to Action: Build Back Biodiversity”.Nearly half of the global GDP output is related 2.__________ biological diversity.
