Chisum Special Collections. “This exhibition involves the history of printing, art, photography and advertising over 16 decades. My 8thgrade boys don't open doors for me. The girls do, however. So do the 6th,7th, and 9thgrade boys, but not those 8thgrade boys. It's a strange phenomenon that I'm sure is explained by science somewhere. But when I'm walking through campus with my rolling cart filled to the brim (边沿), my hands full, my backpack on, and the wind blowing the door, it's hard to pull it open for me. The boys just go on through without stopping to offer help. What these boys need is some empathy (同理心)! Looking at art can help with that. Last semester in a photography unit for my 8thgraders, I brought out the “I am” character poem activity from my pack of printable worksheets to study the work of Dorothea Lange, the mastermind behind the Migrant Mother and other powerful photographs from the Great Depression. As an art teacher, it is important for me to give my students experience connecting with works of art, which includes connecting with the characters and people in the artworks. Dorothea Lange was a photographer hired by the Resettlement Administration and the Farm Security Administration to document the lives of migrant workers, and displaced families. Because her photographs were governmentfunded, they were offered for free to newspapers across the country, and her photographs were seen nationwide. She had a masterful way of capturing emotion in her subjects, so her photographs are an excellent way for students to practice empathy while also connecting with the art, the past, and the people in the photograph. Once we finished with all of the group presentations, I asked what all of the photographs had in common and what we can learn about the photographer based on all of these photographs. This launched us into a lesson on Dorothea Lange, art during the Great Depression, and a debate over whether or not the camera has the ability to capture the essence (精髓) of a person. 4.What does the author think of the 8thgrade boys? B.They appealed primarily to the 8thgraders. C.They were highly profitable. D.They revealed the essence of the subject. A。 6.Why did the author introduce Dorothea Lange to her class? A.To appreciate the Migrant Mother. B.To help the boys relate to others. C.To dig into the Great Depression. After all, that picture you drew in kindergarten might still hang on your refrigerator years later. 1 Think about a Broadway performance. When it's over, it's over. Sure, it might live on in your memory or on film. But the live show was a special event. It was limited to one time and place. Can you think of other forms of art that are temporary? 2 Have you ever spent hours building a beautiful sandcastle? If you have, you probably were sad when it was time to leave the beach. You knew your work of art would be gone as soon as the tide came in. The sandy beach is a canvas (油画布) that nature erases daily. Most of the time, art made from sand can't last long. Still, many people love using sand to create their own unique vision of beauty. 3 It is a type of live performance art. Artists who work in sand animation use sand to make a set of images that usually tell a story. They often start with a large amount of sand on a flat surface, such as a table. They then use their hands and fingers to draw in the sand. 4 However, the wide variety of beautiful and highlydetailed sand artworks might surprise you. Many of these works of art are temporary. That's where the animation part comes in. Sand animation artists create a series of images that move to tell a story. They might also use music and special lighting to complete the effect. Sometimes they take photographs of or video their creation throughout the process. 5 A.Not all works of art are permanent, though. B.Sand animation is beautiful but lasts only at the moment. C.If you're a fan of the beach, sandcastles might come to mind. D.One of the most attractive types of sand art is sand animation. E.Then, they turn it into a sand animation movie when it's finished. F.It might seem like using sand would limit the art you could make. G.Building a sand castle is a familyfriendly activity perfect for large groups. 故选A。 Ⅲ.语法填空 (2023·广东省茂名市高三二模)Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer only created 37 known works during his lifetime.
