听力原文:
A Great Girl
Rachel lived in a small town in America. She always wanted to help others when she was young. At eight, she learned that many children had no clean water in Africa, and she was shocked. When her school began raising money to build wells there, she asked her parents to stop holding a birthday party for her each year. Also, she asked her friends to donate $9 each to the project in Africa instead of giving her birthday presents.
One year later, on June 12, it was Rachel’s ninth birthday. She put up a birthday page on the Internet, with a goal of raising $300. However, Rachel was able to raise only $200. This made her a little sad.
听力原文:
Unluckily, Rachel was badly hurt in an accident only eight days later. This was a terrible shock to her friends. They wanted to find a way to give their support. They began donating money through Rachel’s birthday page. Donations quickly passed her $300 goal and kept rising.
When it was clear that Rachel would never come back to life, her parents donated her organs to other children. More money was raised. The total donations soon reached $100,000, then $300,000. So far, more than $850,000 has been raised from all over the world, including donations from many Africans who were moved by the little American girl.
