A
(2024·合肥质量检测)I am thinking today about my new favorite thing. It's an app that my husband told me a few years ago that helps me bypass all the obstacles (障碍) in my way:potholes, heavy traffic, and even speed cameras.
To be honest, when my husband first told me about it,I didn't pay much attention. I was only going to places I already knew how to get to. Plus,I learned to drive from my father—who never turned to a map. I think I mistakenly absorbed the message that real drivers didn't need a map;you somehow just magically knew where to go. It was only later that I realized that just getting a driver's license didn't mean you knew how to get to places—that was lesson one. Lesson two came when my kids started playing on two different travel teams. The drivers in our household suddenly had the need to head in different directions on the same day.
Suddenly my app became very meaningful to me. How did I ever manage to get to strange playing fields hidden somewhere without it? But the crazy thing I have also noticed is how often I just don't listen to it. Why might that be? Do I just prefer the old routes, even if they are actually worse? I see an analogy (类比) to the present moment. There is evidence that some old ideas and some long familiar ideas will send us into a boring unchanging lifestyle. But for some reason we like them better than an unfamiliar new route that might take us into areas we've never heard of,let alone visited.
It can be hard to admit we don't know everything. As a person who still drives an 8yearold stick shift and who has never stood in line for anything new,I certainly understand that. But I also try to remember the times I let go of my ego (自负),or my fear, and learned that life could be better. Not perfect—but better. I am glad I finally listened to my husband about that app. He was right.
1.What did the author think of the app at the very beginning?
A.It was magical.
B.It was practically valueless.
C.It was powerful.
D.It was not as good as a map.
根据第二段中的“I didn't pay much attention... I think I mistakenly absorbed the message that real drivers didn't need a map; you somehow just magically knew where to go”可知,作者起初对这款应用程序没太在意,她觉得自己只会去自己已经知道如何到的地方,认为真正的司机根本不需要应用程序的帮助,故B项正确。
2.What would probably make the author ignore the app's instructions?
A.Her desire to explore alone.
B.Her doubt about the new device.
C.Her preference for the new routes.
D.Her refusal to experience changes.
根据第三段中的“There is evidence that...we like them better than an unfamiliar new route”可知,一些旧的想法和一些长期熟悉的想法会让我们进入一种无聊的不变的生活方式。
3.What can be inferred about the author from the last paragraph?
A.She is willing to challenge herself.
B.She cares little about others' comments.
C.She recognizes her problems easily.
D.She is too inflexible to make any change.
I am glad I finally listened to my husband about that app”可推知,作者愿意挑战自己,故A项正确。
4.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.Real Drivers Know Their Way
B.It Pays to Take a New Route
C.New Apps Make Life Perfect
D.It Matters to Listen to the Inner Voice
B
We've heard people say that we shouldn't worry too much about the future. But this saying doesn't hold true in the technological world. Here, you always need to think about the future,or else you won't have the chance to be in the digital age. There are so many new inventions that come up daily, which help in making our lives better and easier.
The iPod we use daily was once a farfetched thought of Mr. Jobs, which has become a reality today. Similarly, when television was launched,we thought nothing could beat this invention. Then came cable television, and now it's the age of digital television. Similarly, until a few years ago,3D was limited to movies, but today,we have 3D blueprints,3D graphics, and 3D television sets as well. All these inventions were just a prediction by their inventors, but they later, went on to become a part of our lives. Similar predictions can be made for the future.
For example, how about having humanlike robots that understand our instructions by simply speaking to them? We can talk with these robots regularly and simply instruct them to perform a particular task. If you want tea,you can simply require your robot to make it for you. These robots can be useful in industrial fields as well. For example, you can simply ask the robot to switch on the manufacturing line.
If waste keeps increasing, the future will see many problems related to pollution. So what about having a waste recycling machine that produces notebooks? Yes,I'm not talking about the regular recycling machines that give us raw materials we need to put to effective use. If we build recycling machines that produce a particular product out of the waste,it'll do much help to the environment as well.
This list can go on and on. Our imagination has no limits and so does technology. Who knows? Maybe one of these ideas may become a reality in the near future!
5.What should we do according to the author?
A.Take the future less seriously.
B.Use 3D technology more widely.
C.Base new inventions on experience.
D.Keep making predictions for the future.
根据第一自然段“Here, you always need to think about the future,or else you won't have the chance to be in the digital age.”和第二自然段最后一句“All these inventions were just a prediction by their inventors, but they later, went on to become a part of our lives. Similar predictions can be made for the future.”
6.What can so called humanlike robots do according to the text?
A.They can talk to themselves.
B.They can understand human words.
C.They can offer the users instructions.
D.They can invent something for humans.
根据第三自然段“For example, how about having humanlike robots that understand our instructions by simply speaking to them? We can talk with these robots regularly and simply instruct them to perform a particular task.”
7.What does the author think of the waste recycling machine?
A.It is achievable. B.It is profitable.
C.It is affordable. D.It is impractical.
根据第四自然段“So what about having a waste recycling machine that produces notebooks? Yes,I'm not talking about the regular recycling machines that give us raw materials we need to put to effective use. If we build recycling machines that produce a particular product out of the waste,it'll do much help to the environment as well.”
8.What is the text mainly about?
A.The far future of technology.
B.Ways of making predictions.
C.Effects of predictions on inventions.
D.The significance of human imagination.
根据第一自然段“Here, you always need to think about the future,or else you won't have the chance to be in the digital age.”和最后一段“This list can go on and on. Our imagination has no limits and so does technology. Who knows? Maybe one of these ideas may become a reality in the near future!”

On the Use of Artificial Intelligence
Hi everybody. Our group discussed the use of AI and finally agreed that its advantages outweigh the disadvantages.
On the one hand,it goes without saying that AI has brought much convenience and has been doing us a great favour in jobs requiring accuracy and calculation.Plus,AI has such fantastic speed in collecting data. On the other hand,AI is becoming too smart nowadays, concerns arising. Some of us think that AI will be a threat to humans one day. However,AI can be our best assistant as long as we develop it in the right way.
That's our opinion. Thank you.
