阅读理解 A (2024·济宁一模)Keeping a language alive can strengthen people's sense of identity and most importantly lead to the preservation of a whole culture. This is probably why a group of Cherokee music artists decided to create a music album (唱片) exclusively in the Cherokee language,a highly endangered Native American language. Currently, there are fewer than 2,000 fluent speakers of the language remaining in the world, and the number is declining every year. The album, tilted DOAP oaV and pronounced “Ah” “Nuh” “Duh” “Nah” “Lees” “Gi”,means “Performers” in English. It is comprised of a range of contemporary styles, including Pop,Reggae,Country,Heavy Metal,Hip Hop,and Folk. With a planned release date of Labor Day weekend, the record company is using the platform of the National Cherokee Holiday to give this album as much exposure as possible. Jeremy Charles,a key figure in getting this album off the ground, has said that the “music will shine a spotlight on Cherokee artists and speakers, and increase exposure to our culture and language worldwide”. He aims for the album to be an inspiration to the next generation of Cherokee language learners. Featuring 12 Cherokee artists ranging from ages 14 to 50,you can see how this album is going to do a lot for the promotion of Cherokee music and can inspire people of any age to make music that connects with their heritage (遗产). The youngest contributor on the album,Lillian Charles,is only in 8th grade but had a major contribution to the Gothpop song“Circus”—a song she wrote at the age of 12.It originally written in English, she worked with translators Bobbie Smith and Kathy Sierra to be able to fully express herself in Cherokee. Projects like the DOAP oaV album bring a modern approach to revitalizing language and culture and encourage a younger audience,to get involved and start learning the Cherokee language. On average,a native language is lost forever every two weeks, and these people want to make sure that the Cherokee language isn't one of them. 1.What can we learn about the album from paragraph 2? A.It has various musical styles. Studies show that the earlier kids learn to form positive relationships, the better they are at relating to others as teenagers and adults. Playing together also helps these kids practice social behaviors, such as kindness, sharing, and cooperation. Even so,how quickly your child develops into a social creature may also depend on his temperament(性格). Some toddlers are very social, but others are shy. In addition, the way that toddlers demonstrate that they like other children is markedly different from what adults think of as expressions of friendship. Research at Ohio State University in Columbus found that a toddler's way of saying “I like you” during play is likely to come in the form of copying a friend's behavior. This seemingly unusual way of demonstrating fondness can result in unpleasant behavior. Regardless of how much they like a playmate, they may still grab his toys, refuse to share, and get bossy. But experts say that this is a normal and necessary part of friendship for kids this age. Through play experiences, toddlers learn social rules. That's why it's so important to take an active role in your toddler's social encounters by setting limits and offering frequent reminders of what they are. When you establish these guidelines, explain the reasons behind them. Begin by helping your child learn sympathy (“Ben is crying. What's making him so sad?”),then suggest how he could resolve the problem (“Maybe he would feel better if you let him play the ball.”). When your child shares or shows empathy(同理心) toward a friend, praise him (“Ben stopped crying! You made him feel better.”). Another way to encourage healthy social interaction is by encouraging kids to use words— not fists—to express how they feel. It's also important to be mindful of how your child's personality affects playtime. Kids are easy to get angry when they're sleepy or hungry,so schedule playtime when they're refreshed. 5.What does it indicate when toddlers copy their playmates' behavior? A.They are interested in acting. B.They are shy with the strangers. C.They are fond of their playmates. D.They are tired of playing games. 根据第二段“In addition, the way that toddlers demonstrate that they like other children is markedly different from what adults think of as expressions of friendship. Research at Ohio State University in Columbus found that a toddler's way of saying ‘I like you’ during play is likely to come in the form of copying a friend's behavior.(此外,蹒跚学步的孩子表现出他们喜欢其他孩子的方式与成年人认为的友谊表达方式明显不同。哥伦布俄亥俄州立大学的研究发现,一个蹒跚学步的孩子在玩耍时说‘我喜欢你’的方式很可能是模仿朋友的行为)”可知,蹒跚学步的孩子模仿玩伴的行为说明他们喜欢玩伴,故选C。 6.What does the author suggest parents do for their kids? A.Design games for them. B.Find them suitable playmates. C.Play together with them. D.Help them understand social rules. 根据第三段“Through play experiences, toddlers learn social rules. That's why it's so important to take an active role in your toddler's social encounters by setting limits and offering frequent reminders of what they are. When you establish these guidelines, explain the reasons behind them.(通过游戏体验,幼儿学习社交规则。这就是在你蹒跚学步的孩子的社交活动中,通过设定限制和经常提醒它们是什么,来发挥积极作用是如此重要的原因,当您制定这些指导方法时,请解释其背后的原因。)”可知,作者建议家长在孩子的社交生活中设定限制,并且经常提醒孩子们这些限制,也就是社交规则,帮助孩子理解社交规则,故选D。 7.What is the function of the quoted statements in paragraph 4? And they might be true to some extent. However, grammar is the foundation of every language. It's a system of rules that allow us to structure sentences. __2__Well,it's true that learning grammar can be challenging, especially if you think about it that way. In fact, learning grammar doesn't have to involve memorizing a bunch of rules from a textbook. __3__Games are also a great method of communicative grammar practice. In other words, you should see grammar in action. You shouldn't only learn grammar rules but rather see them in usage. __4__Learning grammar is not a prerequisite (先决条件),but it'll help you increase accuracy and learn the language a little faster. You can see it as a shortcut for building sentences and expressing yourself. It's true that learning grammar takes time. And we won't lie to you—it does take time, even if you use innovative learning methods. But once you start learning it,you'll realize it's not that complicated. Things will start to make sense. __5__ On the other hand,if you're planning to travel and you simply want to learn practical vocabulary to get around the city, you don't have to spend time mastering grammar. A.And it will definitely be worthwhile in the end. B.What we're trying to say is that grammar matters. C.But if you want to become fluent, you shouldn't avoid it. The moment they entered the gym and saw the climbing walls towering over them, the boys got excited and started making noises. But Stevie was an exception, who was standing aside looking at his thin arms silently. Stevie didn't like climbing. It wasn't his thing. Getting along with people wasn't his thing, either. He just felt nobody liked or trusted him at school. Then came the coach, who taught the boys some basic skills. He said everyone should have a climbing partner and showed them how to belay (保护) their partner. “If you are a climber, trust your belayer and challenge yourself. Belayers, please remember that your partner's life depends on you.” The moment he finished, the boys couldn't wait to match themselves with a partner except Stevie, who was left alone wandering around the gym. Noticing his embarrassment,Mr. Taylor raised his voice and said,“I need someone I can really trust to team up with!” He looked around. Then his gaze fell upon Stevie. “How about you,Stevie? Would you like to be my belayer?” “Me?” Stevie widened his eyes, surprised to hear Mr. Taylor even say his name. He had thought he was invisible. “I guess,” Stevie managed a weak smile. Nervous as he was,he plucked up courage. “It doesn't matter who gets to the top first. It's about giving it a go.” Hearing Mr. Taylor's words,Stevie gritted (咬紧牙关) his teeth and moved up slowly, his face pressed against the rough surface. “Done it!” Stevie finally called from the top with excitement. Then Mr. Taylor started to let him down through a perfect control of the rope.“Well done,” said Mr. Taylor when Stevie landed on the floor. Now it's Stevie's turn to control the rope. Bearing in mind his responsibility,Stevie carefully watched as Mr. Taylor climbed up,pulling in the rope hand over hand. He felt his heart racing wildly. Finally,Mr. Taylor arrived at the top. “Ready to let me down now?” said Mr. Taylor. “Okay,” Stevie took a deep breath, his palms sweating uncontrollably. As Stevie loosened the grip, the rope slipped through his hand much faster than expected. ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Suddenly, the boys burst into wild applause and yelled encouragement at them. ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ 【参考范文】 As Stevie loosened the grip, the rope slipped through his hand much faster than expected. Suddenly,Mr. Taylor dropped like a stone. Stevie let out a little scream. The picture of Mr. Taylor hitting the ground flashed over his mind. He quickly gripped the rope, bringing Mr. Taylor to a sudden stop. Regretful and cautious,Stevie looked up and saw Mr. Taylor wearing a smile and encouraging him with an inspiring gesture, which made him less nervous. Then he restarted loosening the grip slowly. Finally,Mr. Taylor dropped smoothly down to the bottom and signaled to Stevie with a thumb up. “You made it!” Suddenly, the boys burst into wild applause and yelled encouragement at them. When Mr.Taylor stepped forward and gave Stevie a big hug,a ripple of excitement and pride ran through him. From that day on,Stevie opened his heart to the people around him. He made new friends at school. He even fell in love with climbing where he was regarded as a trustworthy teammate. Grateful to Mr. Taylor,he knew deep down in his heart that it was his teacher's trust that allowed him to embrace his new self and others.
