Friendship on the rocks: please advise!
Step 1 Greeting and lead in

2. Show an envelope and have a student open it.
A letter from an old friend…
Intention: to relax students and arouse their interest.
Step 2 before reading
1. know the type of the article and where it comes from.
2. Then make sure students understand the title, especially the phrase: on the rocks.
Intentio: to teach students predict the main idea from the title.
Step 3 while reading
1. Task 1: skim the post and find out who posted the problem about what on when?
2. Task 2 : scan the message posted by Amy and answer the two questions below:
a) What exactly happened to Amy?
b) How have Amy’feelings changed?
3. Check the answers.
Intention: to develop students’ reading skills including skimming and scanning.
4. Task 3: have students read the two posts posted by Cindy and David and find their suggestions.
What are their suggestions? Are there any similarities or difference between them?
Step 4 After reading
Task 4: Have students read the posts again and tell the similarities in stucture.
Q: 1. What are their similarities?
2. if you need to give advice to someone, what should you do?
· let him know that you understand his feelings.
· Show your attitude to this matter.
· Give some useful suggestions.
· Comfort him again and make him believe it’ll be ok.
divide students into 9groups and each group has 6 members to discuss what suggestions they would like to offer?
