Teaching Material： Unit 2 lesson 8: Why Are Plants Important? Teaching Difficult and Important Points: 1.Complete the mind map. 2.Build the students’ sense of taking care of environment. Teaching Methods: Task-based teaching method Teaching Preparation：PowerPoint, video and blackboard Teaching Procedures: Step1：Lead-in Lead in the topic by asking two questions: Q1: Do you know when the World Forest Day is? Q2: Why do we have World Forest Day? Students think about the questions and give their answers. （设计意图：本节课上课时间为3月20日，恰好第二天为世界森林日，以此引出主题，既符合实际，又拓宽学生视野，引起学生兴趣。） Step2: Presentation Activity 1: Show four pictures and three sentences to teach new words. (1).It’s pleasant to sit in the shade under a tree. (2).Plants cover the soil. (3).They help us fulfill our basic needs. Students read after the teacher and guess the meanings. Activity 2: The teacher shows some English explanations on PPT, ask students to say and spell the new words. (1). It is dark and cool. _______ (2). It is something in which plants grow. ____ (3). It means enjoyable. _______ (4). It means simple and necessary. _____ (5). It means to meet someone’s needs._____ Students say out the words after reading the English explanations. （设计意图：本课的新单词少，要求学生会读、会认，会写，会用，要达到四会。有两个需要学生去拓展理解运用的单词，pleasant和fulfill，通过句子让学生明确他们的含义，这个环节为接下来的环节打通单词关，扫清障碍。通过英文释义使学生锻炼英语思维能力，不一昧依靠汉语解释，并检查学生是否真正理解单词。） Step3: Pre-reading The teacher shows the picture of lesson 8 and ask two questions. 1.Where are they？ 2.What are they talking about？ Students predict the main idea according to the picture. （设计意图：锻炼学生识图能力及预测能力，通过图片对课文内容进行大致猜测，并激发学生阅读兴趣。） Step4: While-reading Activity 1: Group Work Read fast and answer the question: Q: Why d
