B
When I was a child,my father bought me a new toy every other week when he received his pay check. I loved to take the toys apart to learn their basic principles, and then put them back together.
Most of the time, the toys still worked, but I clearly remember getting a toy robot that would walk either forwards or backwards. I took the robot apart, but when I put it back together,it couldn't walk any more. I figured out what was wrong with it but was not able to fix it. It was especially disappointing because I really liked the robot.
By the time I was ten or so,my parents allowed me to play outdoors alone. During the summer,on the junk day,I would check out what people were throwing away. People did not use garbage bags then,so all waste was in metal cans, which made it easy to check out what was in the waste. I took home some equipment, radios, and televisions. I took them apart and learned how they were built.
Through learning by myself,I built a telephone. I made my own microphone(扩音器) by taking apart old dry batteries and taking the carbon rods (碳棒) out of them. I then broke the rods into powder and used the carbon powder to make the microphone. I used the microphone in my homemade telephone. Later,I made another carbon microphone, which I connected in series with a speaker I took from an old radio. I put the speaker in a bush by the sidewalk and ran wires around the side of the house where the batteries and my homemade microphone were. I had much fun playing jokes on people walking by with that device(装置).
4.What happened when the author put back the toy robot together?
A.It didn't work normally.
B.It looked like a disappointing toy.
C.He found something was missing.
D.He didn't know what was wrong with it.
5.How did the author get what he wanted after turning ten?
A.Through checking garbage bags.
B.Through collecting them outdoors.
C.Through asking his parents for them.
D.Through borrowing them from his neighbours.
6.What did the author do to get the microphones he needed?
A.He took apart an old telephone.
B.He looked for them everywhere.
C.He used old things to make them.
D.He took some carbon rods from a broken radio.
7.After reading the text, what can we learn about the author as a child?
A.He didn't know his interest.
B.He was laughed at by others.
C.He didn't study hard at school.
D.He loved inventing new things.
根据第二段的“I took the robot apart,but when I put it back together,it couldn't walk any more.”
根据第三段的“During the summer,on the junk day,I would check out what people were throwing away.”
根据第四段的“I made my own microphone ... to make the microphone.”
C
Starman, the dummy(人体模型) riding a cherryred Tesla Roadster(特斯拉跑车) through space, has made its closest approach ever to Mars. The electric roadster and its passenger were attached to the top of a Falcon Heavy rocket during the SpaceX rocket's first test launch on 6 February,2018.
Two years later, the Falcon Heavy rocket and the vehicle at its tip are making their second trip around the Sun. Mr McDowell,a Harvard astrophysicist, found that Starman would be 7.4 million kilometers away from Mars on 7 October,2020.
The closest recent distance between the Earth and Mars was about 56 million kilometers in 2003,though the planets are often hundreds of millions of miles apart depending on where they are in their orbits. No one can see the Falcon Heavy rocket at its current distance, but orbits over periods of a few years are fairly straightforward to predict, and Mr McDowell used data about how the rocket was moving when it left the Earth's gravity behind to locate its recent movements exactly.
Last time Starman circled the Sun,McDowell said,it crossed Mars' orbit while the Red Planet was quite far away. But this time the crossing would be completed within a fairly close distance, though still not close enough to feel a strong tug from Mars.
At this point in time,if you were able to go look at the Roadster,it would probably look pretty different. The strong solar radiation environment between the planets would probably have destroyed all the exposed organic materials.
Without the Earth's atmospheric and magnetic(磁场的) protection, even the plastics and carbonfibre materials would start to break up. Over the course of decades or centuries, the car will end up with its aluminium(铝) frame and hard glass parts—that's assuming that none of them get destroyed in impacts with passing space rocks.
8.What can we infer from the first two paragraphs?
A.Starman is now circling around the Earth in its orbit.
B.Starman has set out on its second trip around the Sun.
C.Starman has traveled 7.4 million kilometers after launch.
D.Starman still has a long way to go before getting to Mars.
9.How did McDowell manage to locate Starman?
A.By keeping Starman under visual observation.
B.By predicting its future orbit around the Earth.
C.By seeking professional help from SpaceX.
D.By analyzing data about the rocket's movement.
10.The underlined word “tug” in Paragraph 4 is closest in meaning to “________”.
A.pull B.drive
C.resistance D.pressure
11.What will happen to Starman in decades or centuries?
A.It is circling around Mars and will finally crash onto it.
B.It will finish its mission and return to SpaceX on the Earth.
C.Starman is likely reduced to at most its frame and glass.
D.SpaceX will try to recover it during its next space mission.
根据第一段中的“Starman, the dummy riding a cherryred Tesla Roadster through space, has made its closest approach ever to Mars.”和第二段中的“the Falcon Heavy rocket and the vehicle at its tip are making their second trip around the Sun”可以推断,Starman已经开始了它的第二次绕太阳飞行,故B项正确。
根据第三段中的“Mr McDowell used data about how the rocket was moving when it left the Earth's gravity behind to locate its recent movements exactly”可知,麦克道尔先生通过分析火箭运行的数据成功定位Starman,故D项正确。
根据画线词前的“this time the crossing would be completed within a fairly close distance, though still not close enough”可知,尽管这一次Starman穿越火星轨道时离火星相当近,然而仍旧不够,据此可以推断,这次环绕太阳的飞行仍旧感觉不到来自火星的引力,故A项“拉”与画线词tug的意思最为接近,故A项正确。
D
Imagine reading a story titled “Pursuing Success”.That would be an inspiring story, wouldn't it? Maybe—but maybe not. It might well be the story of someone whose neverending chase for more and more success leaves them unsatisfied and incapable of happiness.
Though it isn't a conventional medical addiction, for many people, success has addictive properties. Obviously, success goes with praise. To a certain extent, praise stimulates the neurotransmitter dopamine (神经递质多巴胺),which contributes to all addictive behavior.
The desire for success may be in humans' nature, but specialness doesn't come cheap. Success is tough work, and it requires bearing the cost of losing. In the 1980s,the physician Robert Goldman famously found that more than half of ambitious athletes would be willing to take a drug that would kill them in five years in exchange for winning every competition they entered.
Unfortunately, success is endless. The goal can't be satisfied; most people never feel “successful enough”.The high only lasts a day or two,and then it's on to the next goal. Psychologists call this the hedonic treadmill(快乐跑步机现象),in which satisfaction wears off almost immediately and we must run on to the next reward to avoid the feeling of falling behind.
People should get off the treadmill. But quitting isn't easy for addicts. For people hooked on substances, withdrawal can be a painful experience, both physically and psychologically. Research finds that depression and anxiety are common among outstanding athletes after their careers end. Olympic athletes,in particular, suffer from the “postOlympic blues”.
Just like wine, success in and of itself is not a bad thing. Both can bring fun and sweetness to life. But both become bossy when they are a substitute for—instead of a complement(补充物) to—the relationships and love that should be at the center of our lives.
12.What can be inferred from the first two paragraphs?
A.Success doesn't always bring positive results.
B.A traditional medical addiction leads to success.
C.The passion for constant success is rarely praised.
D.Success addiction has already drawn wide attention.
13.Why did the author mention the research findings of Robert Goldman?
A.To argue that athletes deserve more rewards.
B.To illustrate success is a tough and cruel job.
C.To describe the routine training of an ordinary athlete.
D.To express his opinion on success: no pain,no gain.
14.What can success bring to a success addict according to psychologists?
A.Satisfaction and a sense of pride.
B.Confidence and lifelong happiness.
C.Anxiety and shortlived happiness.
D.Relaxation and endless motivation.
15.What does the author suggest people do about pursuing success?
A.Stop chasing success.
B.Give up love and relationships.
C.Chase success at any cost.
D.Reflect on what matters in life.
根据第四段中的“The high only lasts a day or two,and then it's on to the next goal.”

21.B 解析:根据文章中的“One day I was driving to the marsh for birdwatching.”
22.A 解析:根据前文的“The weather forecast called for the possibility of fog.”
lose sight of看不见,忽略;lose track/touch of与……
gentle“柔和的,温柔的”;mild“轻微的,温和的”;direct“直接的”;sharp“锋利的,尖的”。

Thomas Edison, born in America, was a great scientist and inventor. He was once considered as a boy who was not worth teaching. In fact,he was full of curiosity and imagination.
I admire him because of his contributions to the world. In his life,he was always trying out new ideas and had more than 1,000 inventions, many of which still have a great influence on our life today. He was also very diligent and believed that genius is one percent inspiration and ninetynine percent perspiration. All these explained why he had so many great inventions and what he did inspires me to be creative in my work.
The story of my new family member
We found a lonely dog a few weeks ago, walking along the road in the countryside. All of a sudden,he was jumping on cars, and at the same time we thought maybe his family was camping somewhere in the neighboring areas. As a consequence we passed by him without hesitation. A few hours later,on our return trip,he was still in the same place, again and again, making an attempt to get people to stop for him. When he caught sight of us approaching,he lay down in the middle of the road,so we failed to get around him.
My father braked hard, pulled up and looked around for a few minutes, trying to figure out whether there was anyone around from whom he had been separated. After getting off the car,we checked the dog carefully. It didn't appear so. Then we took a good look at the poor but cute dog. He gazed at us eagerly with gloomy eyes. We circled around him in total silence. We had an overwhelming desire to find out what was wrong with him. Unfortunately,we couldn't find any clues. He had no collar and he was really too thin. Eventually we decided that he had been abandoned. We showed great sympathy for the poor dog. How helpless he was on such an occasion! He was homeless and he had no one to rely on.
On seeing the scene,we couldn't help begging my parents to raise him. My mother agreed excitedly,“I love this lovely dog. How poor he is! It is high time that we should bring him home.” She stared at the dog with tears welling up in her eyes. We knew my mother was willing to adopt the dog because she was so sweet and she loved dogs very much. My father thought it was dangerous to raise a dog due to the fact that we were too young.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
Paragraph 1:

Paragraph 1:
My father said firmly,“If he doesn't bite me when I try to pick him up to put him in the car, then we have a new dog.” The dog happily joined us with no fight at all,and the only thing we were in danger of was getting licked. He kept sticking his head between the two front seats and thanked us for picking him up. The dog had clearly been on the road for some time, and he was really too thin. So we fed him a lot over the course of the next two weeks striving to look after him with the hope that he would get stronger. Unfortunately, all our efforts were in vain. He was still very thin.
Paragraph 2:
We took him to the vet(兽医),who said the dog appeared to be in good health. The vet guessed the dog was about two years old. He gave the dog all the required shots and we left.“Amazing! The dog is healthy,” my mother said in an excited voice. So thrilled were we that we headed home immediately. We did love our new family member. The dog was a sweet companion to our family, who was a quick learner and knew how to respond to different instructions. We learned a lesson from the experience that kindness and sympathy would make a big difference to our life.
