Janis Chan, from Hong Kong, received the Person Touching China award (感动中国奖项) for 2021. She has worked as a reporter and TV presenter for over 20 years.
In 2021,Chan took part in a TV show called No Poverty Land ( 《无穷之路》 ). The TV show tells the world how people in some villages of China are. They were very poor in the past but they worked hard to make money. Chan spent three months making the TV show.
Although there were lots of difficulties,Chan was not afraid of them. She didn't mind crossing mountains and rivers to reach small villages in Hainan,Guizhou,Yunnan and Sichuan. Chan talked with people in those places to know more about their lives. She wanted to show us the changes that have happened in these places.
The show was successful and people spoke highly of it. Chan wants to make more shows to get more people to know China more than before. “There are people who always like to question the achievements (成就) of China. We've seen the changes, and we felt we need to make a programme like this,” she said. The TV show is seen by parents and schools in Hong Kong as a window to help young people to learn more about China.
