Unit 10 单元拓展阅读训练 2023—2024学年 冀教版 英语九年级全册 一、阅读理解 Time to let go! When I asked my mum and dad if I could go to Kavos with some of my friends for a week, the last thing I thought they would say was “yes”. “There is nothing to discuss,” my dad barked, “Of course you can’t. My girl, you are too young to travel without the presence (在场) of an adult. It’s completely out of question.” My mum just went on and on about all of the possible dangers. So I tried to change their minds. I told them,“If you were worried about the possibility of me falling off a wall and dying in Kavos, then why weren’t you also worried about the possibility of the same thing happening to me here in London?”. Finally, they agreed—unwillingly. My mum took me to the airport. I had to fly because my friends had flown out the day before. I arrived at the hotel and met my friends at 6 a. m., after a long night of flying. After having left my luggage in my room, I explored the attractions with my friends. Everyone spoke English and everywhere looked like a cheap American film set. It was just what we all needed after a long year of busy study. I promised my parents I wouldn’t go out every night. But once you’re there, it just can’t be helped. Every one of us wanted to make the most of our week of freedom. To be honest, I think we did get a bit too crazy. I still wonder if my parents were happy with their decision. But I did have a wonderful holiday. I think the experience should make my parents realize that it is time for them to let go. I got home safely at last. So did my friends. Now I’m talking with my mum about a similar journey next year. She is speechless for a moment, then she cries, “My alarm bells (警钟) have already started ringing.” 1．The underlined phrase “out of question” probably means ________.
